Set in the underground C-grade film industry of ’80s Mumbai, Miss Lovely revolves around brothers Vicky and Sonu Duggal, who produce lurid sex-horror films for the city’s illicit markets. While Vicky is a cynical hustler, Sonu is a sensitive and withdrawn individual, burdened by guilt over their exploitative work. Their lives take a turn when Sonu encounters Pinky, an aspiring actress, and becomes infatuated with her. Driven by his feelings for Pinky, Sonu attempts to break free from his brother’s shadow and create a romantic film of his own, leading to a tragic and violent unravelling of their world. The film was nominated for the Un Certain Regard section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
