Ibrahim Ali Khan on the power of scent and the essentials he won’t leave behind

When Ibrahim Ali Khan talks about routine, the word that comes up most is “basic.” His grooming kit is stripped down to a face wash, moisturiser, hairbrush and blow dryer. His gym bag holds a protein shake, water and a spare change of clothes. There is a clarity to it, almost a refusal to overcomplicate. There’s a simplicity to it, a choice to avoid overcomplication.

What draws him out is fragrance. Fragrance, for him, is not just a bottle on a dresser but a way of recalling places and people. A day off is remembered through warmth. Festivals bring back the mix of cardamom, sweets and oudh. Falling in love, he says, would smell of lingering spice, something that refuses to fade.

That instinctive pull is what grounds his new role as India Ambassador for Azzaro. He gravitates toward fragrances that are warm, bold and spicy–notes that reflect his current favourite, Azzaro The Most Wanted. “What I like most about the fragrance is that it makes you feel bold. It makes you feel fierce. And it is unforgettable.”

Perfume also connects him to family, as he talks about his father, Saif Ali Khan’s collection. “He has a lot of great perfumes. He’s super stylish and yes, I’ve stolen a fragrance from him before,” he admits with a grin.

The inheritance is there, but he is careful to draw his own lines. That distinction extends to his uniform. If pared down to five items, his list is quick: a white shirt, a tailored blazer, denims, classic sneakers and fragrance. “Style isn’t complete without scent.” The choices are streamlined, but never bare. The final note always matters.

For Ibrahim Ali Khan, fragrance is not an afterthought. It is memory, mood and signature. And with Azzaro, it becomes the essential that turns simplicity into something lasting.
