Sreeleela makes a case for velvet in Sureena Chowdhri’s sharara set

Sreeleela’s look hinged on a simple idea: how to make velvet feel light. Her peacock-blue sharara, styled by Tanya Ghavri, did exactly that. Cut in silk velvet, it moved with ease instead of weight, the fabric catching just enough light to show off its depth.

The drape slipped over wide, embroidered sharara pants traced with fine vertical lines of gold thread that elongated the frame. Along the hem, denser latticework added weight to the shape. The cropped blouse, with slim straps and a tasselled border, kept the proportions sharp.

Sreeleela’s jewellery—uncut diamond-encrusted chandbalis and a statement gold cocktail ring—picked up the gold accents without competing with them. The beauty look stayed pared back: kohl, nude lip and undone hair against the weight of velvet.

“Instead of a velvet sharara why not lean into the bohemian trend with a velvet overcoat or jacket. Work with a darker tonality like a blue velvet similar to Sree Leela’s sharara or a burgundy. Pair with a chiffon ruffled blouse and a pair of shorts. Pair in a velvet potli, tousled bed hair and a fun pair of boots to complete the look,” says Vogue India fashion associate Divya Balakrishnan.
