Khushi Kapoor’s draped chainmail-inspired gown is from Vivienne Westwood’s 2022 bridal collection

Between film promotions, Khushi Kapoor’s style has been adapted to her on-screen characters. Earlier this year, Khushi Kapoor opted for an array of candy-hued outfits, paying a subtle reference to method dressing for her film Loveyapa. For her movie Nadaaniyan, Kapoor delivered a string of preppy-chic fits that ranged from mini skirts to the timeless pairing of jeans and stilettos. Kapoor’s latest outing, however, brings her affinity for flattering and overtly feminine dresses to the fore. Styled by Ami Patel, the outing featured a gilded chainmail gown from Dame Vivienne Westwood’s 2022 bridal couture collection.

Entitled ‘Aphrodite’, the draped creation draws inspiration from ancient Greek statues, given its fluid yet structured quality. Corsetry with subtle boning covered with a cowl-like neck, off-shoulder sleeves, and thigh-high slits gave the conventionally skimpy chainmail material a more refined edit.

While Gianni Versace’s pioneering use of chainmail (Oroton) embodied provocation—crafting dresses that both flatter and express—Vivienne Westwood, who designed her own wedding dress in 1962, approached the material with a more modest and subdued sensibility. Unlike all other pieces in the Bridal collection that succumb to the world of whites, Aphrodite stands out both in terms of its hue and feel.

For accessories, she went with a mini Lady Dior and pieces from Cartier’s signature Trinity collection featuring their newest wildlife-inspired designs. This metallic mesh rendition of evening wear is a Kapoor sister favourite. Back in September last year, Janhvi Kapoor opted for a gilded mesh gown from Gaurav Gupta paired with a Bvlgari high jewellery neckpiece, too.
