Kajol brought dewy skin and Ananya Panday made a case for smokey eyeliner in this week’s best beauty looks

Call off the endless scrolling for holiday beauty inspiration. This week’s best beauty looks have already built your moodboard for you. Soft-focus skin, sneaky hits of colour and well-behaved hair all come together to give you the perfect glam moment. Whether you’re hoarding screenshots for wedding season, plotting a night out or have a million holiday parties to attend, these are the looks to save.

What’s impressive is how every look stays true to the wearer; Sobhita Dhulipala’s tones that enhance, Kajol’s look that catches the light perfectly and Taapsee Pannu’s bold experimentation. If your routine feels stuck on repeat, take this as your cue to tweak the script: deepen a shadow, switch your finish, trade your lipstick for a glassier gloss. It only takes one adjustment to change the entire mood.

Ananya Pandey‘s base is smooth and lightly set, giving just enough coverage without hiding texture. The eyes carry a soft wash of shimmer with a subtle smoky lash line, right through the outer corner. A super natural MLBB lipstick keeps the look balanced, while the loose, glossy waves make everything feel relaxed and put together.

Sobhita Dhulipala’s thick, exaggerated wing and kohl, along with sharply defined brows create drama and depth without looking too harsh. Her skin has a warm, barely-there wash of coverage that makes it look au naturel. The understated lip and subtle blush let the eye makeup lead, while her undone hair keeps the look laid-back.

Taapsee Pannu’s espresso-lined lips are the moment. Filled in with a nude beige shade, her take on the trend mirrors her personality perfectly. Cheekbones are defined with controlled, well-blended contouring. A neat winged liner adds detail without pulling focus from the overall look.

Kajol’s look builds from her signature dewy skin, with bronzy lids and eyeliner concentrated on the outer half, so her eyes catch the light. The lashes are fluttery and weightless, adding depth without the heaviness. An apricot-nude lip echoes the warmth across her face, while polished waves in her hair keep the look relaxed, but unmistakably red carpet.

Rashmika Mandanna’s look is as classic Indian as it gets: fresh, even skin, softly groomed brows and a hint of peach on the cheeks. Traditional kohl and straightforward liner define the eyes, while a nude gloss adds a little shine to the lips. Worn with loose hair and a bindi, the whole look feels like the most effortless version of festive glamour.

Sanya Malhotra’s look leans towards modern Indian glam. Satiny skin with a soft pink flush lifts the face. The eyes are defined with crisp, brushed-out liner and full lashes, balanced by a muted pink lip and structured brows. Her hair is pulled back neatly into a bun and adorned with an oversized scrunchie.

Below, a roundup of this week’s best beauty looks:

The surprisingly simple wellness rule that could boost your health

What if the new balance of well-being wasn’t played out on your yoga mat or on your plate, but at the heart of your relationships? In the same way as physical and mental fitness, social fitness is also important in everyday life and can be worked on, nurtured and maintained. At least that’s what Kasley Killam, a sociologist who studied at Harvard, has to say. She’s devised a simple wellness rule for cultivating social relationships: the 5-3-1 rule.

What is the 5-3-1 rule?

Humans are gregarious by nature, feeding on what connects them to others. It was with this in mind that Killam came up with the 5-3-1 rule. In her book on social health, The Art and Science of Connection: Why Social Health Is the Missing Key to Living (2024), she defends a simple idea: our human network is a living organ. It breathes, stretches and weakens if we stop nourishing it. And like everything that keeps us upright, it deserves daily attention. The 5-3-1 rule is not a strict discipline or yet another wellness to-do list. Rather, it’s an invitation to sculpt our relational well-being with the same care as we apply to moisturising our skin or soothing our mind.

To achieve this, three numbers and three movements have been identified to strengthen your social muscles:

  • 5: every week, spend time with five different people or social groups to multiply interactions (friends, family, neighbors, colleagues or new acquaintances) and thus naturally integrate more social life into your routine.
  • 3: every month, allow yourself at least 3 deeper interactions with people from your close circle, those with whom you really listen and where social masks come off.
  • 1: every day, devote an hour or so to social interaction, however fragmented, to meet your daily social needs.

By bringing these three gestures together, you will be following a method that repairs and strengthens the invisible social fabric that sustains us. The 5-3-1 rule doesn’t promise a perfect life but one that’s surrounded, more stable and more alive.

Why apply the 5-3-1 rule to everyday life?

In a world where we take care of our skin, our sleep and our food, we sometimes forget that our well-being is also nourished by the invisible thread that connects us to others. Killam, the sociologist behind the method, reminds us that social health is not a luxury, but an essential pillar of our equilibrium. Practising this simple wellness rule (five different weekly contacts, three more genuine monthly exchanges and one hour of daily sociability), awakens a part of ourselves that is too often put on the back burner or underestimated. The 5-3-1 rule eases stress, soothes silent loneliness, boosts confidence and rekindles the feeling of being surrounded and supported by your peers. Considered a wellness ritual, the 5-3-1 rule is like a skincare routine for the soul, rehydrating bonds like a serum repairs thirsty skin.

Janhvi Kapoor’s ivory kalidar kurta set celebrates varied craftsmanship techniques, textiles and textures

For a recent outing, Janhvi Kapoor opted for a kalidar kurta set by Mayyur Girotra. Despite its ivory palette, the impact of her ensemble is anything but vanilla. The outfit relies on the effortlessness of mulmul, a fabric prized in India for its breathability and softness, especially during the country’s long festive season.

“Janhvi Kapoor wears Mayyur Girotra’s signature ivory mulmul kalidar that is detailed with meticulous zardozi and tilla embroidery and paired with handwoven Jamdani pyjamas,” the designer shares, setting the stage for a deep dive into the garment’s layered artistry. The kalidar, with its gentle flare and fall, became a canvas for intricately embroidered motifs of peacock, florals and foliage that lends the outfit its heirloom-worthy character. “My objective is to always create pieces that translate into heirlooms that speak about the past in the present and are here to stay for the future. And this look takes you back in time. It took 845 man hours for the look to come to life,” Girotra adds.

What truly sets the look apart is the mélange of textiles, techniques and textures. “The ivory mulmul and Jamdani set is completed with an ash grey handwoven dupatta featuring classic Kanchipuram borders and rich zardozi accents, a celebration of Indian textile artistry.” The result is an outfit that brings together the finesse of Jamdani, the sheen of Kanchipuram and the delicacy of mulmul in one versatile set. The back is cut into an elegant open curve, adding a sensual counterpoint to the otherwise modest silhouette.

This Indian director made about 20,000 drawings for her Cannes-winning short film

In her first week at film school in London, Mansi Maheshwari heard a sentence that lit up her mental console. “We were doing a collaging exercise and there were many magazines open in front of us to choose pictures from. Our instructor, the Finnish animator Marjut Rimminen, said to me, ‘Choose the things that wink at you.’” Three years and a victory lap around the global film festival circuit later, the award-winning Indian director and animator—who has also produced knitwear capsules, flash tattoo sheets, stop-motion shorts, claymation figurines, murals and paintings—explains how those seven words changed her life. “I’ve applied what Marjut said to my whole life: what I wear, what I choose to do,” she says, tugging at the collar of her flame-red shirt with fire-breathing dragons printed on it that she found at a thrift shop in London on her 25th birthday. “If it catches my eye, it’s for me. If I have to think about it, it’s not.”

How to know for sure whether a fringe will suit you, according to hair experts

It might be time to bid farewell to your forehead, because the humble fringe has never been more popular. Stats from Google suggest that we’re not just scouting out new bob hairstyles to try, but different kinds of bangs too. Some of our most searched favourites include Birkin bangs (inspired by the late Jane Birkin) and those belonging to a certain Sabrina Carpenter.

But do you dare? Getting it may appeal in theory, but how to choose a fringe can be another story. Will it look good? Will I be able to style it myself at home? Will bangs suit my face? Since they take a while to grow out, it’s a good idea to heed our two hair experts’ advice and do your research before taking the plunge. The truth is that there is a set of bangs to suit everyone. All you need is some inspo and the help of a good stylist.

What to consider before getting a fringe

The first thing you should consider is what kind of fringes you like: seek out images on Pinterest, in magazines or on social media. “Then, it’s all about finding a hairstylist and talking to them about getting a fringe,” suggests Larry King. “It’s really all about having your fringe personalised to your face shape. The majority of fringes can work on everyone, as long as the hairdresser tailors them to your features.”

Paul Percival, founder of Percy & Reed, adds that it’s key to consider how your hair texture and hairline will work with a fringe, as well as how much time and effort you’re willing to put into styling one. “There are so many people that love the idea of a blunt-cut fringe but have, as an example, wavy hair,” he says. “This is fine if you’re happy to spend five minutes blowing your fringe out when needed, but if you’re a wash-and-go kind of girl, it might drive you crazy. Basically, if you’re happy to maintain a fringe, then pretty much anyone can make it work.”

How to find the perfect fringe for your face shape

As a general and very basic rule of thumb, Percival advises choosing a style that gives your face a more oval look. Make sure you have a consultation with your hairstylist and be clear about what you do and perhaps more importantly, don’t want. Alternatively, try a clip-in fringe to experiment with the style before committing fully.

Meanwhile, if you’re on the hunt for inspo on how to choose a fringe relevant to your specific face shape, then look no further:

“For heart-shaped faces, I suggest asking for a fringe that is more of a half-moon shape,” says Percival. “By this, I mean you want the fringe to be shorter in the middle and longer towards the sides.”

Rounder faces require some length to help balance and elongate the face. “You might want to try a grown-out bang, something that’s a bit more flexible that you can lift up and switch from side to side, or maybe go for a sweeping fringe,” King says.

Long face

“It’s all about long, grown-out-looking fringes,” says Percival. “That can be a curtain fringe or bangs styled to the side, but essentially it’s all about keeping the length that little bit longer.”

Square-shaped face

Square-shaped faces should try curtain bangs or more choppy, ’70s-style fringes: “Both work really well for this face shape. Anything that blends into soft layers around the face will work well,” says Percival.

The world of fringes is your oyster! Whether micro, blunt or grown-out fringe, those with oval face shapes can afford to be super experimental with their cut.

A universally flattering fringe

A style that is flattering on most people, regardless of face shape or hair texture? “A slightly grown out curtain fringe,” confirms Percival. “They tend to be low-maintenance and easy to adapt to each individual when being cut in.”

I’m calling it, leggings will be everywhere in 2026

Leggings are back. Or at least they are according to the autumn/winter 2025 collections. If you don’t believe me, look at the runway shows from the likes of Versace, Acne Studios and Max Mara. And let’s not forget the leggings that are currently a firm athleisure fixture among the celebs, from Dakota Johnson on her gym mornings in LA to Kim Kardashian leaving the home in her leggings and *checks notes* matching stilettos and, of course, Hailey Bieber’s, every off-duty look.

But I sense something else in the air. Something beyond the clean girl vibe of the leggings we’ve been seeing so much of. Take a look at the American Apparel-style maroon leggings on the Dries Van Noten spring/summer 2026 runway, or the big, baggy T-shirts and leggings for Conner Ives’s spring/summer 2026 collection. Cast your eye across all the bright, garish patterned leggings at Fashion East, Off-White and Balmain for spring/summer 2026. Noughties leggings–the indie sleaze-adjacent kind–are fast approaching us as a trend. Even Lady Gaga–who wore black leggings and platforms like it’s 2009–knows what’s up.

In the 2000s, leggings were sort of a casual alternative to jeans. People wore leopard print leggings and slouchy vintage T-shirts, or black leggings and a hoodie and Ugg boots. They weren’t worn with pulled-up Alo sports socks or three-quarter length with kitten heels. They were much more dirtbag than that. Think: Lindsay Lohan creeping away from the paparazzi in leggings and bug-eye shades in 2008. I’m pretty sure I spent the large majority of 2007 until 2011 in leggings – again, not the clean girl kind, the sort that you crumple up and shove in your handbag with a Blackberry on your way to the club.

Essentially, I wouldn’t be surprised if we started seeing more of the above type of leggings as 2026 hits, as opposed to the type of leggings favoured by Lululemon girls. All the clues are there. We’re already seeing the return of “Fight For This Love”-style military jackets and biker boots, and these sorts of leggings are of the same era and vibe.

12 things I learnt about myself after dating every zodiac sign

I spent most of my twenties dating men who taught me more about myself than about astrology. Somewhere along the way, I realised I’d unintentionally started dating every zodiac sign. Already halfway through, the completionist in me did the rest. A decade later, I had twelve lessons and a version of myself shaped by the things I thought I wanted, then realised I didn’t.

The stories did not happen in this order, but arranging them by sign feels neater, a small courtesy to my Virgo nature. And for the record, all of this happened before it was embarrassing to have a boyfriend.

Aries

Aries was someone I had a crush on for a while; I floated into that date like I had won something. And for the first half, it genuinely felt exciting. He was passionate, glowing with enthusiasm about everything he loved. I just sat there absorbing the warmth of his personality, almost dizzy from the fact that I was actually out with him.

Then, I realised he hadn’t asked me a single thing about myself. I left the date feeling oddly flat, almost embarrassed that I had expected it to feel different. He even told me he wanted to spend his life getting to know me and then proceeded to ghost me. The worst part is that somewhere I still hoped he would call and say he had made a mistake. Ah, the teenage lack of self-respect. I cried over that boy for months and then dramatically vowed never to have a crush again.

Taurus

Taurus was kind, loved animals and was great with kids. He had that classic good-guy energy, the sort younger me would have proudly taken home to my parents. But he moved faster than I could manage. Before we even went on a date, he was already talking about commitment with a confidence that made me nervous.

Growing up, I assumed I’d jump at the chance to be in something serious. I thought I’d recognise ‘Prince Charming’ immediately and lock it down. But something in me stepped back. It surprised me how strongly I resisted what I’d always imagined wanting. Maybe this was the first time I realised that the woman I was becoming didn’t fit the script I’d written for her.

Gemini

Gemini is my Roman Empire, the catalyst for major character development. He was the man who answered work calls on dates, ghosted for weeks because “work got crazy” and cancelled plans because he wanted to “hang with the boys”. He was different when we were alone, different around people and different again whenever I tried to have a serious conversation. And yet, I fell so hard.

Maybe it was because he was also charming, funny and heartbreakingly lovable in those rare moments he was fully present. Looking back, he never pretended to be anything other than himself, even if “himself” came in four versions. His priorities were always clear. I was the one convincing myself he’d love me eventually if I just held on tighter.

Cancer

Cancer was a sweet, gentle and soft-spoken man who held doors and actually listened. But every story somehow circled back to his exes. He spoke about them with the tenderness usually reserved for a current partner. I realised after one date that he wasn’t out of love, just out of the relationship.
