With a massive 38 g of protein per 100 g, Parmesan is easily the most protein-rich cheese in the supermarket—and arguably the most flavourful. Choose the version packed in its own juice (rather than oil) to keep fat levels low. Mix into salads with mustard and herbs, toss with pasta and lemon zest, or use as a filling for lettuce cups or wraps. It also works surprisingly well with Indian flavours—try it with a squeeze of lime, chopped onion, coriander, and a pinch of chaat masala.

Sustainable sourcing can be a concern, so opt for brands that are pole-and-line caught or certified when possible.

Chicken or turkey breast

With 24–31 g of protein per 100 g, chicken and turkey breast consistently rank among the most efficient animal proteins. They’re lean, easy to cook, and provide a complete amino acid profile, making them a favourite for anyone focused on muscle maintenance or fat loss.

What sets them apart isn’t just the protein content, but the versatility. Grill, roast, poach, or sauté them, then build out meals with dal, vegetables, or rice. They take on spice blends easily, from tandoori marinades to Thai-style coconut broths. And when cooked right, they don’t have to be dry or dull.

This anti-boho skirt trend will be everywhere come September

In the face of the boho craze – and every handkerchief hemline and bucolic ruffle that comes with it – tearing across the fashion scene this summer, the A-line may seem a severe proposition, but it will no doubt be a breath of fresh air for long-suffering tailoring loyalists. For those eager to embrace the clean-lined Prada spin, look to skirts in structured silks, wools and neoprenes, which will style beautifully with tank tops, layered necklaces and flip-flops in summer, then easily layered up with V-neck knits and biker boots come autumn.

“There’s joy and freedom in leaning into ugliness”: Zinnia Kumar on self-worth and confronting the ‘evil aunty’ in her head

Zinnia Kumar doesn’t believe in hiding discomfort. She prefers to make eye contact with it, to examine its shape and social function before deciding whether it deserves space.

“There is a great joy and freedom in leaning into ugliness,” she says. “A part of me had to break down feminine gender roles and restrictive social expectations applied to women based on dress, presentation and behaviour, to lean into it. I think just like beauty, colourism and featurism, these are all gendered phenomena designed to rank women’s worth through beauty, so by rejecting it in a way, it helped me access a more empowering, unconventional space.” It’s not a statement meant to provoke, rather a realisation she arrived at after years of trying (and failing) to meet an ideal that was never built for her.

“When an agent said to me, ‘You’re not an obvious beauty, you’re an interesting beauty,’ I was quite hurt,” Kumar recalls. “I thought, ‘So do you think I’m not very pretty?’” There was a time she longed to meet the social ideals of beauty. “I just never was going to. My features just were not built that way.”

Kumar is many things: scientist, ecologist, writer, model, activist. But her most consistent through-line might be observer of the systems around her, and the ones within. “When I realised the power of ‘interesting,’ it really helped hone in my craft,” she says. “Instead of feeling self-conscious about not being pretty enough or pandering to the male gaze, I existed in a space where I could embrace becoming the characters themselves and the art of fashion itself.”

She draws inspiration from women who subvert ideals rather than submit to them: Kirsten McMenamy, Julia Nobis, Lady Gaga, Dovima. “They have a way of crossing over commerciality with high fashion, with a dynamism that makes each incredibly unique and art itself. I think aspiring to uniqueness and imperfection in a world of AI perfection is kind of a beautiful and very human thing.”

The standards she’s resisting are generational, cultural, and very familiar. “In the communities most of us grew up in, we witnessed family and community members, people in the media criticising and judging others on their morality, beauty, intelligence. In cinema this has always been the evil gossipy aunty.”

A complete guide on how to get rid of strawberry legs

How to get rid of strawberry legs, AKA those dark spots that make your skin look like the outside of—you guessed it—a strawberry, is a lot easier than one might think. But before you can even think of solutions on how to get clearer and smoother-looking skin, you have to understand what these dots are and how they came to be in the first place.

“[It’s] a term used to describe the appearance of dark pores or small black spots on the legs, resembling the seeds on a strawberry,” says board-certified dermatologist Tiffany Libby, MD. “While it’s not medically worrisome, it often serves as a cosmetic concern related to the visible dark spots or dots that give the skin a speckled appearance.”

Marisa Garshick, MD, board-certified dermatologist at MDCS Dermatology, agrees and adds that strawberry legs are often asymptomatic. Depending on what is causing these dark spots, she says they can be associated with itching, pain or small rough bumps.

So while it’s not considered harmful, there are a couple of ways to prevent these black dots from popping up if their appearance bothers you. From causes to how to get rid of strawberry legs, Libby and Garshick break down everything you need to know below.

The causes of strawberry legs

Strawberry legs, says Libby, are mainly caused by the presence of three things: clogged hair follicles, ingrown hairs, or folliculitis. Garshick explains that clogged pores can occur when dead skin, oil, or debris oxidise inside the pores and turn dark, giving skin that strawberry skin appearance. Ingrown hairs (a.k.a. pseudofolliculitis) can result from waxing or shaving when the hair follicle becomes inflamed. Folliculitis refers to the bacterial or fungal infection of the hair follicle that can lead to redness or pustules centred around the hair follicle. This can also happen when the hair is in a state of friction, such as being trapped under tight leggings or during workouts. And while technically a different condition, strawberry legs are similar in appearance to keratosis pilaris, which she says is a condition when keratin or dead skin gets trapped in the hair follicle which can cause a rough, bumpy texture that resembles chicken skin.

Both experts say that genetics might play a role in who is more prone to getting this skin condition, so it’s definitely something to consider. Libby explains that some people are predisposed to having darker, thicker hair, which automatically makes them more prone to ingrown hairs or follicle blockages. Garshick agrees and adds that when dark or coarse hair is shaved, it can still leave behind a dark dot that appears visible since the hair is a darker colour.

How to prevent them

To prevent strawberry legs, you have to adjust your body care routine. But they’re easy fixes to incorporate. Some of the best ways include the following:

Exfoliating regularly

Garshick says that regular exfoliation, chemical or physical, helps to prevent the buildup of dead skin and prevents the pores from becoming clogged. Libby adds that looking at chemical exfoliants such as alpha- (AHA) and beta-hydroxy acids (BHA) will dissolve away dead skin cells and keep pores clear of any debris. “A product like First Aid Beauty’s KP Bump Eraser is my go-to recommendation for preventing and treating both strawberry legs and keratosis pilaris,” she says. “It gently exfoliates with mild pumice beads and glycolic and lactic acids to lift away dead skin cell layers and minimize clogged pores.”

Shaving properly

When shaving, Libby says that you’ll want to use a moisturising shaving cream and use a sharp razor to prevent razor bumps. Garshick adds that it’s important to also shave in the direction of hair growth. Libby adds you can even consider alternative hair removal products, like depilatory creams, to reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.

Keeping skin moisturised

Hydration is key and using a gentle moisturising cream or lotion will have your skin feeling soft and smooth. “Keeping the skin well hydrated and moisturized [helps] avoid dryness that might exacerbate the condition,” says Libby. We like something like the CeraVe SA Cream with Salicylic Acid for Rough & Bumpy Skin as our go-to body lotion to keep the skin’s surface smooth and clear and it’s suitable for all skin types.

Dry brushing

Both experts say that dry brushing, the physical exfoliant that sloughs away dead skin cells, can be beneficial to keeping strawberry legs at bay. Garshick says it can prevent build-up and keep pores unclogged. You simply take a soft, dry brush and brush in circular motions on dry skin before getting in the shower.

Treatment

Already got strawberry legs? No problem. Libby says that the two most important things to keep in mind when treating them are unclogging pores and minimising ingrown hairs. This can be done in many ways, but she recommends focusing on proper shaving technique and considering in-office treatments.

Forget trainers, biker boots are the shoe to see you through 2025

For a long time, it felt as though we’d all gone full-on trainers berserk. Sambas in a gazillion colourways, chunky Campuses and all those skinny slip-on trainers that are essentially ballet flats… rare was the trainer that did not enjoy It-status for at least a day. In recent months, however, there’s been a subtle vibe shift. I’m talking about biker boots, which have emerged as the unexpected shoe of the summer (again, they were all over Glastonbury last year too) and will crucially see you through autumn and winter as well.

Look around and you’ll spot biker boots all over the place. They’re a staple among both fashion girls and celebs, who are most often pairing them with white floaty boho skirts, minidresses or ’90s-style slips.

All of these biker boots didn’t just randomly land on our feet. Miu Miu (it’s so often Miu Miu, isn’t it?) ushered in biker boots for autumn/winter 2022, with big, buckle-smothered grungey stompers paired with leather trousers and see-through lace slips, and then again with its autumn/winter 2024 collection, this time paired with midi-skirts and structural leather gloves. Elsewhere, we’ve seen biker boots on runways over the past few seasons at Alexander McQueen, Coach, Burberry and Versace. And let’s not forget the overarching influence of Charli xcx who – when she wasn’t wearing pointed knee-highs – basically spent her entire Brat tour in bulky, belt-laden boots and rara skirts.

When it comes to sourcing the best biker boots, you won’t always need to drop one million pounds and remortgage the house – although they do last for years, so investing than you usually would is often worth it. “Vintage and resale sites are rife with worn-in styles, but there are also plenty of new-season versions around if you’re looking to invest,” wrote Joy Montgomery last year. “A few key things to keep in mind when shopping for biker boots: check the height of the upper to work out where it’ll come up to on your leg and try different sizes before choosing a final pair – don’t hesitate to ask sellers on sites like eBay for more information on sizing.”

“It also appears to stimulate the regeneration of damaged liver cells, and appears to be more potent than traditional herbs, like milk thistle, dandelion and artichoke.” Worth knowing if you are partial to a couple of cocktails.

5. Aids good gut health (and digestion)

So far, so (really) good. But it is also an excellent colon conditioner, helps increase circulation to all the organs in the body and has powerful antimicrobial properties that help to reduce the number of pathogenic micro-organisms, including yeasts, living in the gut, many of which have been linked to inflammatory bowel disorders. Inflammatory bowel disorders, in turn, are linked to mental health issues and poor skin health.

Are there any risks associated with taking chlorophyll?

As with all dietary supplements, there are considerations that need to be taken into account. “Generally, chlorophyll is considered safe and well-tolerated,” advises Dr Murthy. “But, because it may affect liver enzymes or bind to nutrients, there’s a theoretical risk it could reduce absorption of certain medications or supplements if taken at the same time.”

He says it’s best to take chlorophyll separately and leave at least an hour or two between it and other supplements or medication. “Anyone on blood-thinners should consult their practitioner first, just as a precaution,” he warns.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t take chlorophyll?

Yes, if you’re on medications that increase your sensitivity to sunlight (like certain antibiotics or acne treatments). In that case, it’s best to avoid high doses of chlorophyll as it can mildly increase photosensitivity, warns Dr Murthy. This means the skin can become more prone to sun damage, sunburn and other UV-related side effects than it might be otherwise. “Also, people with digestive disorders or a tendency to diarrhoea should proceed with caution, especially when taking liquid forms of chlorophyll.”

For Stephenson, a similarly cautious attitude is necessary for pregnant or breastfeeding people. “Like most things in pregnancy, there’s insufficient safety data for high doses of chlorophyll,” she says, noting that it’s better to prioritise dietary sources of the nutrient. “That being said, lower doses of chlorophyll are unlikely to cause harm. One study showed chlorella supplementation in pregnant patients with low-grade inflammation was safe and decreased the prevalence of constipation.”

As ever, be diligent about discussing any chlorophyll supplementation with your doctor or healthcare practitioner before proceeding.

How to take chlorophyll safely

Because chlorophyll isn’t an essential nutrient, there’s no official recommended daily allowance. “Most liquid supplements suggest around 100 to 300mg per day,” says Dr Murthy. Like with most things, though, more isn’t always better. “If you’re eating a plant-rich diet, you’re likely already getting small amounts from spinach, parsley, wheatgrass and similar greens,” he explains. It’s best to think of chlorophyll as a beneficial addition to your diet, not a catch-all for replacing nutrient-rich green vegetables and herbs.

Does chlorophyll have a taste?

Yes, though it’s not enough to put the true believers off. “Most people describe its taste as earthy, grassy or even metallic,” describes Dr Murthy. If you’ve ever tasted raw spinach juice, he says, you’re bang on the money for knowing what natural chlorophyll tastes like. “Liquid chlorophyll supplements can be strong-tasting, which is why they’re often diluted in water or mixed with mint,” he says.
