This is one of the most beautiful, magical new moons of 2025. It demands change and spontaneity. A Gemini moon is always social, light and playful. Geminis think in other dimensions and want to explore who else they can be; After all, they have a dual nature built in. They break the rules and can cause trouble, but they can also powerfully shift energy.

Everything is super-charged and amplified due to the sun, new moon, Mercury and Jupiter being in Gemini: a Gemini stellium. Now, and in the 35 hours following the new moon, it is a great idea to set a new intention for what you want to create in your life. If you want to start a creative project, especially one that has to do with writing, there is hardly a better time to do so. All other creative ideas will also find particularly fertile ground now.

Gemini is a mobile air sign. They rule the mind and ask themselves: What happens when we move things around? How can we arrange life differently? No idea is too far-fetched.

Mercury, the messenger of the gods, is active under this new moon and helps us recognise celestial messages that we need to hear. Mercury moves into Gemini two days before the new moon. Be alert for signs and synchronicities from the universe, especially on the day of the new moon itself. Mercury, in tandem with the new moon, will also support communication efforts and projects you are working on. You can sell your ideas well and make them understandable.

My next stop naturally was the internet to find out more about self-hypnosis. A form of hypnotherapy that doesn’t require the therapist to be physically present, self-hypnosis consists of listening to pre-recorded sessions and absorbing their contents. It’s cheaper and no appointment is required.

What is self-hypnosis?

“Self-hypnosis is when you guide yourself into the same focused state as you would during hypnotherapy but without an external therapist,” describes Fluri. “The core process (narrowing your focus, relaxing deeply and becoming more open to suggestion) is the same. The difference lies in who’s steering the ship: in hypnosis, it’s the therapist; in self-hypnosis, it’s you.”

The first app I found, Doddle by hypnosis practitioner Emily Leyes, ended up being one of my two favourites. There are sessions for everything from better sleep to stress relief, improved focus, sustained motivation, habit adoption, future self-visualisation and much more.

Grace, an app by elite performance hypnotherapist Grace Smith, is the other one I like. The sessions are longer and slightly more niche, covering topics like parenting, IBS (which can be exacerbated by stress), crisis support and insomnia. Unlike meditation, which seemed to invite wriggles and concentration lapses or affirmations, which I enjoyed but didn’t truly believe in, hypnosis gave me a form of positive reinforcement that didn’t make me feel like I needed to do anything in order to receive it. For example, Leyes, in one of her sessions, reminds the listener not to stress if their focus does start to wane–somewhere deep in the grey tissue, the information is being absorbed.

What’s it like to self-hypnotise?

The first question people ask is always the same: does it work? In many ways, it does. I’ve found myself feeling calmer and less panicked in situations where my sympathetic (stressed-out) nervous system would typically kick into action. I’ve been able to more clearly identify the moments in which I tend to reach for peanut butter as an emotional support, rather than a dose of healthy fats.

With doom scrolling, I’ve found and downloaded an app that strictly (read: cannot be overridden) blocks social media save for one hour each morning. Spending time each morning visualising my future self and the decisions I would want her to make has made effecting change, like getting off my phone and out of the snack cupboard, easier. The thing I wish was more obvious, though, is that hypnotherapy (and self-hypnosis) is not another word for “magic”. Like other practices, it requires consistent application in order to reap results.

“I like. I… like it,” I said with a dramatic flair that should have seemed misplaced at a 3am binge fest of biryani and stuffed kulchas following a wedding reception. Without missing a beat, my friend followed it up with “Prom toh mein isse ke saath jaungi.” And right on cue, the entire table chimed “Hallelujah!” before dissolving into guffaws. Except for the one Colombian man in our crew who was visibly perplexed by this orchestration and probably chalked it up to one too many skinny picantes. We could have explained the sanctity of Poo-speak. Instead, we simply asked him to watch Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) on his flight back home.

For my Y2K peers, K3G was our Roman empire. When the film was released, I learnt the steps of ‘You are my Soniya’ in front of the TV (helps me own the dance floor at sangeets now). I’d fast-forward to Poo’s scenes, only to watch them on mute so I could mouth the dialogues myself—complete with her characteristic intonation, of course. Did you expect half measures from this stan?

Stylist Divyak D’Souza, who routinely works with Kapoor-Khan today, agrees. “Poo became a gay icon—that level of fabulousness is aspirational,” he says. “She fit the glamorous mean-girl trope we saw in Hollywood movies, but had the heart and soul of a desi girl. It resonated with audiences here.”

Alia Bhatt’s much-anticipated Cannes Film Festival debut this year did not disappoint. Styled entirely by Rhea Kapoor, from corseted Schiaparelli to bodycon Armani and coordinated Gucci, Vogue takes a deep dive into the actor’s high-fashion moments this week.

Putting all the speculation to rest, Alia Bhatt arrived on the red carpet in an ivory-nude Schiaparelli mermaid gown for her first look. Floral detailing hugged the sides of the off-the-shoulder bodycon dress. Paired with Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas earrings and a large pear-shaped diamond ring, jewellery was kept to a minimum. Bhatt’s signature dewy makeup complemented the understated colours of the dress.

The L’Oréal ambassador made her second Cannes appearance in a navy Giorgio Armani Prive gown from the label’s spring/summer 2025 line. The bejewelled strapless piece featured a band of gems on the bust and hem. A beaded hair cap held together her tight bun, reminiscent of 1920s flapper-style fashion.

In yet another head-to-toe bejewelled look, the Jigra actor graced the carpet wearing a nude-hued monogrammed GG sari by Gucci. The piece featured a plunging blouse, a straight skirt and a duppatta-like drape that trailed behind her. This time her natural soft glam, was accompanied by kohl-rimmed eyes and waves that fell behind her shoulders. A diamond tennis necklace tied the look together.

Bhatt brought sunshine to the Croisette for a day of press interviews. The sunflower-yellow ensemble featured a pencil skirt and cropped corset top with a matching cropped jacket. Exuding old Hollywood glam with red lipstick, the look was accessorised with a floral headscarf, Gucci detailed sunglasses, and yellow Chopard earrings. The Bamboo 1947 bag from the maison was the final punctuation.
