Telogen effluvium is a reactive hair loss and is most commonly associated with stress. It occurs when an internal disturbance sends more hairs into the resting phase than usual. This can also be caused by nutritional deficiencies, such as low iron, or low levels of vitamin B12, vitamin D or zinc.

Signs to look out for include:

• Your hair is finer than it used to be
• Your scalp is more visible
• Your ponytail is thinner
• Your hair doesn’t grow as long as it once did
• You are losing many short hairs

How does stress affect hair?

Stress can impact the hair in a variety of ways. The stress hormone, cortisol, can increase daily hair fall and may worsen existing hair diameter changes. Stress can additionally impact your scalp, triggering itching and flaking of the skin (dandruff). Stress is also a known trigger for alopecia areata.

Stress-related hair loss often manifests as thinning on the top of the scalp, although in more extreme cases it can also affect eyebrows or body hair. As well as hair loss, premature greying and increased breakage are common, as are significant changes in texture. “Stress can affect the production of hormones and nutrients necessary for healthy hair growth, resulting in changes in hair texture,” explains Gaboardi. “This may manifest as dry, brittle hair or an increase in frizz.”

How to deal with hair loss?

The good news is that stress-related hair loss is usually temporary and can often be addressed with lifestyle changes. As well as reducing your stress levels via extended relaxation rituals, maintaining a healthy scalp is vital, as it will encourage healthy hair growth. Aside from thorough cleansing to remove any product build-up or residue, using a product that promotes blood flow to the scalp is a good idea. “Avoid over-washing, as this can strip the scalp of natural oils and lead to dryness and irritation,” says Gaboardi. “Gently massage your scalp while washing to improve circulation and promote hair growth.”

Gently does it

Being gentle with your hair while it’s experiencing change is important, so as not to exacerbate any thinning. It goes without saying that excessive heat and chemical treatments aren’t a good idea, but try and opt for protective hairstyles too. “Opt for hairstyles that minimise tension on the hair follicles, such as loose braids, buns or ponytails,” advises Gaboardi. “Avoid tight hairstyles and hair accessories that pull on the hair, and handle your hair with care to minimise breakage and damage. Avoid vigorous towel drying and harsh brushing or combing, especially when the hair is wet and more prone to breakage.”

Take an inside-out approach

Eating the right things will also go a long way towards laying the foundation for optimal hair growth and reducing stress-related hair loss. A healthy, balanced diet will help to support the immune system, repair damaged cells and even lower raised cortisol levels. Getting enough protein in your diet is essential, as it provides the building blocks for proper hair growth: meat, tofu, eggs, beans, grains, nuts and fish are all good protein sources. Some studies suggest that telogen effluvium can also be connected to low levels of iron, so include iron-rich foods like leafy vegetables, lentils and liver in your diet where you can.

Butter-yellow emerged as the new neutral on the runways of Chanel, Loewe, Tod’s, Miu Miu and Alaïa; a softer alternative to the classic primary, offering warmth without intensity. Janhvi Kapoor is offering a soft, couture twist on the easy-to-wear colour with an Anjul Bhandari lehenga. Steeped in artisanal crafts, her look is proof that pastel palettes can be as statement-making as jewel tones.

Kapoor wore the ensemble for her cousin Anshula Kapoor’s intimate engagement ceremony in Mumbai. Comprising a diaphanous skirt, wrap-style blouse and sheer dupatta, all spotlighting Lucknow’s iconic chikankari. A centuries-old embroidery technique, it continues to define Indian couture. Bhandari’s version celebrates it in its most intricate and tonal form: cream-on-butter threadwork blooming across the skirt in floral and jaali motifs. Believed to have been popularised under Mughal Empress Noor Jahan, chikankari traditionally uses white thread on fine muslin, with more than 30 types of stitches that span the range from bakhiya (shadow work) and phanda (knots) to murri (grain-like detailing). Each pattern is hand-drawn, then delicately embroidered, often taking artisans weeks or even months to complete.

The off-shoulder wrap blouse framed Kapoor’s neckline gracefully, its floral embroidery punctuated with pearls that lent subtle texture and sheen. Her jewellery, from Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, featured a pearl-and-pastel gemstone set that echoed the buttery tones of the lehenga. A soft beauty look—dewy skin, pink eyeshadow and nude lips—kept the focus on the craftsmanship.

Elegant and featherlight despite its embellishment, Janhvi Kapoor’s butter-yellow chikankari lehenga stands out as a modern heirloom ideal for the kind of destination celebration where comfort and ease meet grandeur.

“Most buy them for grandparents, parents and elderly relatives. A few,” Xavier says, “don’t wait for death.” A woman in her twenties bought a plaque to bury her dead relationship. Stranger still are those who purchase and edit their own memorial profiles while most of life is still ahead. They worry no one else will do it for them. What does it mean to be the keeper of one’s family story? To trespass memories? Is there a kind of love that reveals itself through disobedience? Thayil answered, not neatly, not fully, that for him what mattered was that in telling their story, he’d stretched his parents’ lives just a little farther. Micellar water is an underrated superstar when it comes to removing all the grime that builds up just from being out and about. “The very reason you’re cleansing is to prep your skin to receive treatment: whether it’s an acid, vitamin C or hydrating serum,” acne whisperer and celebrity facialist Sofie Pavitt previously told Vogue. “Using a micellar water as an initial cleanse followed by a deeper cleanse removes all dirt, mascara, SPF and oils to prep the skin and leave a clean canvas—oils leave films and can stop your treatments from penetrating the skin correctly,” she continues, making the case for them as opposed to other cleansing agents.

What is micellar water?

“Micellar water is a solution comprised of micelles or tiny cleansing ‘balls’ that are attracted to oil and dirt, that can effectively bind and lift them from skin without the need for rinsing,” says board-certified dermatologist Dr Blair Murphy-Rose. “It is usually a combination of mild surfactants and moisturisers with or without added ingredients to provide additional skin benefits.”

How does micellar water differ from a traditional cleanser?

“Traditional cleansers often contain surfactants and can be foamy or creamy,” board-certified dermatologist Dr Mina Amin explains. Whereas, “micellar water is gentler and has a lightweight, watery consistency.”

What are the benefits of micellar water?

“Micellar water is an effective, gentle cleansing option suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin, with reduced risk of skin irritation,” Murphy-Rose notes, adding that many formulas contain hydrating ingredients. In short? These formulas not only cleanse, but also maintain skin’s moisture levels and protect against future dryness.

Specifically, she continues, look for a micellar water with humectants like glycerine and hyaluronic acid, plus soothing ingredients like aloe, niacinamide and ceramides. She also praises it for its ability to remove makeup: “In fact, we keep it in each exam room in my office to remove makeup from patients’ faces when needed before a skin evaluation.”

When should you use micellar water?

There are many uses for micellar water, per Bonjout. First, in the morning “as a light cleanse to remove oils that accumulate overnight.” You can also use it as the first step in a double cleansing routine, to gently remove makeup and surface oils before a foaming or gel face wash. Micellar water can also be used for touchups throughout the day, say after a workout or while travelling. Lastly, those with sensitive skin might appreciate it “as a daily cleanser for those who find traditional formulas too harsh.”

As fashion week blends into the festive calendar, beauty this week moved between gloss and smoke. Tamannaah Bhatia’s look hinged on light and warmth. Her skin gleamed with a dewy finish, the kind that feels more lived-in than layered. Peach tones swept across her cheeks and lids, bringing a soft coherence to the face. Lashes stayed lifted, brows brushed in place, finished with a creamy pink lip.

Draped in olive green, Sonali Bendre’s makeup mirrored the warmth of her sari. A mettalic glaze moved across her lids, catching the light with each turn. Her skin looked fresh and hydrated, with blush and highlighter placed where the sun would naturally hit. A rose-toned lip tied the look together, while the bindi and pearl jewellery gave it a festive, old-world grace.

In Rohit Bal’s ivory ensemble, Bhumi Pednekkar’s makeup mirrored the structure of her silhouette. The base stayed matte yet dimensional, sculpted lightly along the cheekbones. For Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2026 show, Ananya Panday arrived in a fresh, nearly bare-faced look that played with softness. Dewy skin, a natural flush across the cheeks, and rosy-pink lips were paired with subtle definition around the eyes—barely-there mascara and soft-brushed brows.

October has been marked by love and celebration for Anshula Kapoor. The influencer and filmmaker Boney Kapoor’s daughter got engaged to her longtime partner, Rohan Thakkar, in an intimate ceremony in Mumbai, which welcomed the entire extended family, including her brother Arjun Kapoor, uncle Anil Kapoor and cousins Sonam Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, among others. Bandhani, the centuries-old tie-dye technique from Gujarat and Rajasthan, remains one of India’s most enduring crafts. Its name derives from the Sanskrit word bandh, meaning “to tie,” referring to the meticulous process of hand-tying thousands of knots before dyeing. Traditionally rendered in auspicious reds and yellows, Kapoor’s choice of purple symbolised creativity and individuality.

“So many acid-attack survivors have been made to feel invisible, so giving them that light, giving them that platform was very important to me,” says Kulsum Shadab Wahab, philanthropist, entrepreneur, executive director of the Hothur Foundation and founder of Ara Lumiere. Over the years, she’s worked to create spaces where these survivors can rebuild their confidence, express themselves through creativity and rediscover a sense of self-worth.

Launched in 2019, Ara Lumiere has earned global recognition for its handcrafted couture, designed in collaboration with acid-attack survivors. Through it, Shadab Wahab built a brand and started a movement. For her, fashion has been about more than aesthetics; it’s been about creating impact.
