The Venus retrograde starting March 1 is begging you to stop overthinking

It’s a time of intense celestial activity—February 28’s seven-planet alignment will be followed by the Venus retrograde from March 1 to April 12, 2025. The last time Venus was in retrograde was between July and September 2023 and this year’s retrograde will highlight the cycles and themes that unfolded for you eight years ago. This time, Venus retrograde begins in Aries and concludes in Pisces, marking a symbolic beginning and end with Aries being the initiator of the zodiac wheel and Pisces being the culminating point. Read on to know what the Venus retrograde will bring forward for your zodiac sign.

Aries

Gear up to reclaim your power like never before, Aries. If you’ve obsessed over your treasures like Scrat with his acorns in Ice Age, the universe is likely to shake things up for you. With the retrograde dance beginning in your sign, you may feel all the feels and question your goals, only to come of age on the other side of this seemingly manic time. Remember to redirect your focus inward to get the best results outward.

Taurus

As your home planet slows down, you, too, feel the urge to deflate and huddle up in your cave. Certain decisions, however challenging, are meant to be taken and these must be made, graciously allowing old chapters to close while focusing on the reset the cosmos is bringing your way. A long-term outlook will help you rise above fleeting temptations.

Gemini

Your outgoing persona may feel stifled during this retrograde, but that is only fodder for growth. This is your opportunity to master creation through stillness and release your pulsating life force in ways that uplift you, irrespective of what your environment is compelling you to believe. This is when the cosmos gifts you a dusty old lamp: whether or not you choose to rub it is entirely up to you.

Cancer

You may find yourself in serving others, but in only serving others, you may lose yourself too. Venus comes in hard with revelations about self-worth, making balanced decisions and watering your own tree. Rethinking Long-term financial goals, restructuring your work schedule and taking a chance by releasing the rut that keeps you chained will help you grow.

Leo

Focus is your keyword for the next 42 days. Let go of the hocus pocus and point your wand to the most important things you wish to create. Not all that is broken needs fixing but what would you like to fix in the long run? Choosing your battles and standing your ground are two things you will master on the other side of this retrograde.

Virgo

Are you fixated on tradition or rooted in it? Adaptability, flexibility and steadfastness are unfolding for you as you not only burn away old cords and attachments but also your linear ways of thinking. You may find yourself questioning everything from self-worth to your relationships. How were things then and how are they now? How did they get to this point? What’s the way out? Pause the overthinking and accept bygones as bygones.

Libra

While you may be more action-oriented during this time despite your home planet being in retrograde, you are encouraged to cut through the fog by listening to your intuition. When that feels like a hard thing to do, alternate thinking and creative solutions may save the day. These will come easier when you focus on deep breathing.

Scorpio

Your inner child may be screaming and your old wounds may feel like they’re being split wide open. However, this is your time to let your mind lead over your heart. Clear out the clutter that holds you back and take this as your chance to right the wrongs inflicted upon you; not by dealing the same blow to others, but by nursing yourself.

Sagittarius

Take this time to infuse self-discipline, routine and willpower into your life so that your sleepless nights and fragmented energy realign themselves, bringing you back to your centre. Allow the world to captivate your senses, making you wonder about everything you encounter. At the same time, continue with your efforts to seed something long-term.

Capricorn

You are healing at the very core—an ancestral challenge, a habit you didn’t realise you have, a feeling of lost love or loneliness—but through it, you are rising. Your soul evolves rapidly as you ascend to higher planes of consciousness. Choose wisely all that you wish for, expecting only the best to follow. Remind yourself that there are no consequences, only results.

Aquarius

A new interest may catch your fancy as will life skills like financial planning, investing and charting out your goals. This time will feel abundant and prosperous while also teaching you the importance of balancing your masculine energy (logic, rationale, action and strength) with your feminine energy (creativity, receptivity, intuition and nurturing).

Pisces

As the retrograde dance culminates in your zodiac, you draw from the inner reserves of your creative energy to manifest a life of your liking. Your relationships thrive as you focus on the smallest things that make you feel content. Your fears around security dissolve into thin air as you begin to acknowledge all the ways in which you are looked after by the cosmos.

Suhana Khan’s Torani lehenga featured intricate embroidery of pearls, zari and dori

Though just one film old, Suhana Khan has been turning heads with her sartorial choices—both ethnic and contemporary. Recently, she wore Torani’s Maahe Nyra lehenga set for Aadar Jain and Alekha Advani’s wedding ceremony. The traditional ensemble, crafted from Jeni silk and organza in a soft ivory shade, was intricately hand-embroidered with pearls, zari and dori embellishments.

Lemonading.jpg

Give ‘lemonading’ a shot if you’re going through a tough time right now

You have two major options when you’re struggling with something: wallow in it or try to look on the bright side. Turns out, choosing the second option, or “lemonading,” may make you more resilient and happier overall—so that you can still enjoy your life when things are challenging.

That’s the major takeaway from research published in Frontiers in Psychology. For the study, researchers analysed data from more than 500 adults during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and broke them into two groups based on personality traits. One group had higher levels of playfulness based on something called the Adult Playfulness Trait Scale, and the other had lower levels of playfulness.

The researchers found that while both groups had a realistic view of what was happening during the pandemic, the more playful group—also dubbed the lemonading group—was more optimistic about the future and better at problem-solving. They even managed to enjoy day-to-day activities more, despite all the chaos happening around them. Basically, when life gave them lemons, they made lemonade.

While some people are naturally more playful than others, mental health experts say it’s possible to hack your brain to add more lemonading to your life so that you can make the best of whatever obstacles come your way. Here’s what researchers want you to know about lemonading, plus how to actually use it to improve your mindset and mental health.

Lemonading is slightly different from seeing the glass half full

At its core, lemonading is about having a good attitude. But lemonading is a little more complicated than just trying to be positive, says Xiangyou Shen, PhD, lead study author and assistant professor in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University. Lemonading is about having “clear-eyed optimism” about the challenges you’re facing while also trying to be positive about what’s next. “Think of it as turning lemons into lemonade while staying fully aware that you’re working with lemons, not oranges,” Dr. Shen explains.

She stresses that lemonaders aren’t deluded, though. “[In the study], they acknowledged risks and challenges just as realistically as others did,” Dr. Shen says. People who practise lemonading also feel vulnerable and isolated sometimes. Still, Dr. Shen says that what set lemonaders apart in the study is that they were able to be “realistic” about what was happening around them while still thinking of positive things in the future. Basically, they didn’t buy into toxic positivity, but still managed to be upbeat. Lemonaders were also good at tweaking their behaviors and trying to be creative in how they navigated hardships. Ultimately they felt more joy and satisfaction with their lives than people who didn’t have this approach.

Here’s how to work more lemonading into your life.

Some people are naturally better at lemonading than others, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use this strategy if you’re not already lighthearted. A lot of it boils down to trying to look at the pros in a situation, which can ultimately free you up to be more positive.

1. Acknowledge your feelings, and then try to reframe them

“Things will inevitably happen in life that upset you, and it’s important to acknowledge your feelings instead of brushing them off,” says Thea Gallagher, PsyD, clinical associate professor at NYU Langone Health and cohost of the Mind in View podcast. But instead of assuming that things will continue to be bad, she suggests mentally giving yourself other options.

Why the clean girl aesthetic refuses to die

If the early 2020s could be defined by anything, style-wise, it’d probably be the clean girl aesthetic. You know what I’m talking about: all those dewy-skinned girls with the slicked back bun and tiny hoop earrings making their way to the gym with a body-sized Stanley Cup and pulled-up sports socks over yoga leggings. Proponents include but are not limited to: Hailey Bieber (famously), Zoë Kravitz during her more off-duty moments and Kendall Jenner whenever she’s gallivanting around an airport. Plus, basically any girl in the smoothie line at Erewhon in Beverly Hills.

As the decade ticked on, however, it started to seem as though we might be amid a push-back, especially post-pandemic when we started going out properly and reintroducing the club: indie sleaze stylings by way of faux fur jackets and leopard print, messy hair and big black shades, falling into the Uber at 3 am or at least looking like you had. Think: Charli XCX (“did Brat summer kill the clean girl?” feels like a ridiculous sentence to type out), gothy ’90s-style Gabbriette make-up and the distinct vibe that you are in fact not clean but a little dirty, or at least don’t mind if you get wine stains on your strappy white top with no bra.

But, despite silliness and chaos being the prevailing mood of the decade’s midpoint, the clean girl aesthetic hasn’t actually seemed to relent, especially not on the ground – it’s just evolved somewhat, turning into something even more pared-back and glossy in the process. Think: demure beauty trends like soap nails and naked manicures and the chic yet understated style of Lila Moss and Lily-Rose Depp. Indeed, the clean girl aesthetic is apparently the trend that refuses to die. But why? What is it about the clean girl look that people just can’t seem to get enough of? And what does it actually entail?

Where did the clean girl aesthetic come from?

Anyone who spends an inordinate amount of time watching make-up tutorials on Instagram and Youtube will have noticed that people started saying “clean girl aesthetic” sometime towards the end of 2021, with the term accelerating on Google trends the following year. By the time Bieber launched Rhode in the summer of 2022 – a brand who’s whole vibe screams (or should I say softly murmurs) clean girl aesthetic – the trend had gone stratospheric, with everyone suddenly wanting to look like they had a membership to E by Equinox and were getting their eight hours. In the years since, the trend’s evolved from just an internet thing to being everywhere, with the style now becoming central to the way a lot of people dress.

What is the clean girl aesthetic?

The key word that defines components of the clean girl aesthetic is “minimalism”. Everything about the trend is pared-back and well-maintained. Think: natural-leaning make-up that doesn’t feel too glam or overdone (glossy lips rather than lipstick, subtle highlighter and light-coverage foundation rather than huge globs of the stuff, structured eyebrows as opposed to Pamela Anderson-style thin).

Planetary20alignment.jpg

A rare planetary alignment on February 28 won’t occur again until 2040. All the vibes are in sync

The planetary alignment that began in January 2025 with six planets (Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus) aligning in a straight line in the night sky will peak on February 28 as Mercury joins the celestial pageantry. Though the seven planets will conclude their show-stopping spectacle on March 12—right before Mercury enters retrograde—the alignment at its peak on February 28—a day before Venus begins its 42-day retrograde cycle—will be extraordinary. Not only because it is a rare phenomenon but also because none of the planets will be in retrograde for one fleeting moment in time. This day exudes magic and manifestation, giving you a true taste of what it feels like for the vibes to be immaculate. Below, we tell you what this unique planetary alignment means for your zodiac sign.

Aries

Set your sights high, then hit snooze. You’ve been thinking, planning and training long and hard, and although this day is all about revving up that magic, the secret to manifesting is to allow yourself to ease into things. When dining out, you trust the chef to deliver your order, right? It’s the same with the universe. Place your orders and know that they are arriving.

Taurus

Safeguard what you can while nurturing what you have, Taurus. You’ve been working on something in the background; perhaps a skill you’ve refined over the years or an unexpected opportunity that may have come your way that you simply attempted to help someone out. Your intuition is speaking loud and clear, are you listening? Leave the circus behind if you wish to elevate your life.

Gemini

Love, passion and magic fill the air around you. You are in the spotlight, you are seen and loved for being yourself and you’ve found the cheat code to the cosmos. Harness that wisdom, envision a plan of action and leave room for the universe to sprinkle some magic. You’ve been asking for liberation and it is here for you. Now claim it by copiloting with your structured approach to life while letting your wild side take the steering wheel.

Cancer

Are you the same person you were last year? You finally see the way forward with clarity, owning your power and sense of self-worth instead of meandering through life one step at a time. A great day to make that vision board or even invest time imagining your best life yet. It only gets better when you let your false life crumble away.

Leo

You’ve reached a point where the celestial realms open the floodgates of support, bringing in people, resources and opportunities when you least expect it. Your pillars of strength become the foundations on which you build your dream castles—be it your inner circle, your skills, your intuition or your ability to see what lies ahead. The answers arrive as messages relayed by your instincts. Listen.

Virgo

You finally decide to walk into newer pastures, newer timelines and newer adventures. You allow your fears of the unknown to rest and permit yourself to relish the fruits of your labour. The cosmos wants you to remember that you leave your sparkly footprints behind no matter what you do, so go on and sprinkle that magic on the canvas of your life.

Libra

Behind every accomplishment is the decision to take that first step. Behind every serendipitous event is the willingness to surrender to the cosmos. Behind every fortunate turn of events is the ability to confidently trust your inner wisdom and let it guide the way forward. A lot may have not worked out, but it takes one moment to transform your mundane life into an enchanted one. This one is yours.

Scorpio

Tired of figuring out how to manage life and everything in between? The odds are in your favour this time. Design your dreams and venture out to bring them to life. What started as a frustrated wish to get out of a ragged situation is relieving itself through your conscious effort to finally put an end to it. You are writing new chapters that are bringing you closer to the victory post.

Sagittarius

You’ve come beyond the walls that felt like they were caving in and are slowly inching towards the highest point on the cliff where you can taste freedom, fresh air and possibilities. You may have felt trapped in a reality you did not fit into. Now, you are the ruler of your destiny, creating an environment conducive to growth and expansion.

Aquarius

In imperfections, you begin finding the beauty of life, Aquarius. Your ideas and insights may have steered you in a certain direction with your heart soaring with joy and your eyes overflowing with gratitude. Make that wish, take that leap and set up that template for the life you seek. While you distil your current plans and goals, you also pull into your reality all that you secretly wish for.

Pisces

Create beauty around you through an environment that feels calm and harmonious. Your paramount objective is a happy life; how you get to it doesn’t matter as long as you bring that vibration to your present. Your life overflows with exuberance, your heart expands with love and you evolve into a version of yourself you could only dream of.

Vitamin E oil: A complete breakdown of all its benefits—and how to use it

Even if you haven’t heard the buzz about vitamin E oil chances are extremely high that this ingredient is used in a lot of your favorite skincare products. It’s everywhere—and for good reason. Dry skin? Fine lines? Redness? Yes, vitamin E treats all of those and more. Below, the experts break down the ingredient in more detail and explain what it is, its benefits, and why you should be using it.

What is vitamin E?

As Margarita Lolis, MD, New Jersey-based board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon, describes it, vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that comes in eight different forms. It can be found in oils, nuts, fruits, and vegetables for oral intake. But where skincare is concerned, Lolis points out that it can be naturally found in our body, and also found in many products as a topical vitamin E that you can apply.

“It’s an antioxidant and is naturally found in our own sebum. In fact, people with oily skin are found to have higher levels of Vitamin E, ” adds Krupa Koestline, a cosmetic chemist and founder of KKT Consultants. She goes on to say that the two most common forms of vitamin E found in skincare are tocopherols and tocotrienols. Because vitamin E is lipophilic (“lipid loving,” she explains), it can penetrate the skin well to provide us with its many benefits.

How does vitamin E oil benefit the skin?

Vitamin E is mostly used for its antioxidant and hydrating properties. Marisa Garshick, MD, a board-certified dermatologist at MDCS Dermatology, says it helps protect the skin from free radical damage and is also a humectant and emollient to help the skin lock in moisture and keep dryness at bay. Other benefits include its ability to help heal wounds such as scars and burns and its anti-inflammatory properties that can calm irritation and make it great for skin conditions such as eczema and rosacea. As Koestline explains, it is an anti-inflammatory agent that has been shown to help reduce swelling and redness by limiting inflammatory responses. She adds that some studies even suggest that it may help reduce redness and the appearance of newly formed scars. This can be incredibly helpful when dealing with pesky acne scars.

It is also known to provide some photoprotection from the sun. But don’t throw out your sunscreen just yet. Koestline says that vitamin E alone is not a true UV filter as it has a limited range of wavelengths it can absorb. But it can still provide some protection by reducing UV damage and providing a shield for our skin from environmental aggressors and further sun damage. So it’s worth pairing with your favourite sunscreen for the ultimate sun protection against skin cancer.

Are there any downsides to using vitamin E oil?

The bad news is that vitamin E might not be suitable for all skin types. According to Garshick, vitamin E is a known allergen and could potentially cause irritation or an allergic reaction in some. Lolis adds that it is also comedogenic and contributes to breakouts. Both experts say that those with oily and acne-prone or sensitive skin should proceed with caution when incorporating it into their routines. Do a patch test to see how your skin reacts before applying it to your face. For any questions or concerns, consult your dermatologist for the best game plan if you’re keen on incorporating this into your routine.

What’s the difference between vitamin E and vitamin C?

Vitamin E and vitamin C are two of the most recognizable antioxidants in our skincare. While they do very different things for the skin— vitamin C targets pigmentation and dark spots thanks to its brightening properties, and vitamin E is a hydrator—they are often paired together. “Together, they are a powerhouse of DNA repair and protection,” says Lolis. Koestline agrees and says that when the two vitamins are combined with ferulic acid, they provide antioxidant protection, along with brightening and scar-reducing benefits. She adds that studies have shown that they perform better together than by themselves.

How do you use vitamin E oil?

Incorporating vitamin E oil into your routine is fairly easy, as it’s found in many beauty products. Koestline says it works well with all ingredients, so you don’t have to swap out certain products to use vitamin E. She adds that while it can be applied directly onto your skin, some might find the consistency a bit too greasy. For that reason, it is best used as part of a product like a moisturiser, lotion, or a cleanser. “Vitamin E is not the most stable compound and is best used when formulated and stabilized into [these products],” she says.

If you do choose to use the oil version, Lolis says it should be the last step of your routine so that it doesn’t hinder other products in your routine from penetrating the skin. “The order in which [vitamin E oil] is applied is crucial because creams cannot penetrate through oils, but oils can penetrate through creams,” she says. “Therefore, you want to apply it after your creams.”

Popular vitamin E products include the classic Bio-Oil Skin Care Oil and the expert-loved Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, which Garshick says provides protection from environmental aggressors, improve the appearance of fine lines, and boost radiance. If you’re looking for a cream that incorporates the ingredients, she recommends something like the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Cream, which also has retinol to plump the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Pakistani actor Hania Aamir wore a gilded Rahul Mishra gown with a tulle dupatta

Hania Aamir wore the ‘Queen of Thar’ gown from Mishra’s collection entitled ‘Superheroes’, centred around his love for the intricate workings of nature—more specifically, the preserving power of insects and small beings. The gown resembled a lavish beetle, a motif also carefully placed onto the encrusted tulle dupatta that Aamir carried as a bespoke addition.

While the look incorporated Mishra’s signature love for all things embellished and handcrafted, it’s also a reminder of the meaningful subtext Mishra often imbues into his collections. The ‘Superheroes’ collection enlivened a period in time where insects, snakes and “benign creatures” were the only life that existed in peace.

Aamir completed her look with her go-to glam; flushed cheeks, natural skin and old Hollywood waves, similar to what she went for with her Itrh Official’s gota and lamé lehenga in cerulean blue.

From Vogue‘s fashion desk:

“To make this look your own, start by selecting a metallic hue that complements your skin tone—whether it’s a warm rose gold, sleek silver, or a muted gold. Swap the gown for a chic, fitted sleeveless crop top paired with a mermaid-esque skirt. The key to the old-world elegance lies in a sheer, almost-there dupatta—opt for a lightweight, tone-on-tone fabric. To add a touch of drama and break up the monochrome, go for a statement heel. A deep hot red can balance out gold, while a rich lilac will pair beautifully with rose gold, or a striking metallic blue offers a bold contrast to silver. Keep accessories minimal, letting your outfit speak for itself,” says Vogue India’s Associate Fashion Editor, Divya Balakrishnan.

What is selenium and how can you tell if you’re deficient?

A powerful antioxidant present in many foods, selenium plays a vital role in thyroid function, supporting immune health and reducing inflammation. Studies have shown that if you have a balanced carnivorous diet and enjoy eating nuts and fish, you’re best placed to have an optimal level of selenium.

Here, nutritional therapists Farzanah Nasser and Eve Kalinik break down the key facts about selenium, the foods that can boost your intake, and how to tell if you’re deficient.

What is selenium?

“Selenium is an essential mineral that helps to support your metabolism, immune and cardiovascular health – although needed in small amounts, it’s essential for your overall wellbeing,” says Nasser. “It can also help to alleviate symptoms of Hashimoto thyroiditis – also known as Hashimoto’s disease – which is an autoimmune condition.”

Kalinik agrees, sharing that selenium “helps to buffer the effects of free radical damage in the body, whilst also boosting your ability to fight infections by increasing your white blood cell count”.

Selenium is also critical for thyroid hormone production. “It helps convert T4 – the inactive hormone – into T3 which is the active hormone,” Nasser explains. Additionally, selenium protects the thyroid gland from oxidative stress and damage, plus it “has been positively linked with reducing thyroid antibodies”, according to Kalinik.

How can you tell if you’re deficient?

Low selenium levels can lead to “weakened immunity, cognitive decline, muscle weakness, infertility, and thyroid dysfunction – in severe cases it can also contribute to an increased risk of chronic diseases and heart disease”, says Nasser. “Consuming just the right amount is incredibly important, and supports smaller yet vital elements of the body such as glutathione peroxidase enzymes – which protect your cells.”

A selenium deficiency can also lead to Kashin-Beck disease, which is a bone and joint disorder – primarily seen in parts of East Asia. Symptoms include cartilage damage and stunted growth, leading to severe mobility issues, Nasser explains.

“Selenium also helps your body to produce selenoproteins – which in turn aid healthy hair and nail maintenance,” Kalinik adds. “If facing a deficiency diagnosis, it’s important to make sure we ingest enough through the diet.” On the flip side, consuming too much selenium can lead to “symptoms of nausea, facial flushing and dizziness”.

What are the best sources of selenium?

  1. Brazil nuts
  2. Wild-caught salmon, sardines and tuna
  3. Eggs
  4. Sunflower seeds
  5. Mushrooms
  6. Grass-fed meats (beef, chicken, turkey)
  7. Shellfish (shrimp, scallops, oysters)
  8. Whole grains (brown rice, whole wheat, oats)

Should we be taking selenium supplements?

“For most people, it’s best to get selenium from food sources rather than supplements,” says Nasser. “If you suspect that you may have a deficiency, it’s always best to seek the advice of a medical professional,” Kalinik adds. A doctor will be able to safely guide you through a supplementation plan and monitor your levels over time – especially as higher dosages can lead to negative effects.

Ananya Panday: “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do it, but I like the idea of playing yesteryear actors from the ’50s and ’60s”

Chunky Panday: You love my choice of clothes and you keep borrowing my shirts, but you don’t like the choice of films I want you to do…

AP: Your choice of clothing is questionable, but I do borrow your clothes occasionally. In terms of films, we’re from different generations and are different kinds of actors. But we bond over the films we love to watch. You’re my movie-going partner and we’ve watched commercial films together, such as Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017). Sometimes we lock horns when picking scripts because I want to explore my craft as much as possible and do roles that are slightly off-centre and more meaningful. I like that you let me make my own mistakes along the way and advise me in a non-pushy way. Soon enough, we’ll reach a middle ground.

Maheep Kapoor: We’ve had so many holidays together, from London to the US, South Africa and more. Do you have a precious memory from any of them?

AP: When we were in South Africa as kids, Shanaya and I wanted to be grown-ups so badly that she climbed on my shoulders and we wore a gigantic bathrobe to look like one person. Shanaya and I have always had this two-people-one-body thing. Even when you were pregnant with her, I used to sleep on your belly.

Shanaya Kapoor: You’ve come such a long way and we are all so proud of you, Anne. Do you feel you have had your I-made-it moment yet?

AP: I’ve had many mini I-made-it moments, but not that big one because I don’t ever want to get complacent. Even in school, I was always super competitive, a front-bencher and a teacher’s pet—both Suhana and you know this. But it’s less about beating someone and more about doing better. Even when my first film, Student of the Year 2 (2019), released and I won my first Filmfare Award, I thought: “I’ve made it.” But there’s always the next thing. Honestly, I don’t want the big I-made-it moment to ever come.

Collin D’Cunha: If you could play any character besides the ones you have, which one would it be and why?
