6 things I wish I knew before moving in with my partner

It’s never easy living with flatmates. All that making conversation over frying onions in the kitchen. Having to awkwardly interact with their situationships in the corridors. The fact that none of your cutlery or furniture ever seems to match or make sense together. Which is why, moving in with my partner five years ago felt like a dream—I was euphoric, almost. Finally, I thought, after decades of living with anywhere from two to six people, some of whom sieve their rice over the sink, it is now my turn to make a proper home.

But, listen, moving in with a partner isn’t always a walk in the park, either—especially not at first. You’re essentially blending your space and lives together, which can take some getting used to, even if you’ve been together for years. Both my wife and I, for example, have so many clothes between us that I sometimes worry that, one day, the clothes will simply fall off of their respective racks and we’ll both be crushed and buried beneath a pile of vintage bomber jackets, jeans and sweatshirts, never to be seen again. But anyway, I digress. Moving in with my partner: not easy.

Sometimes I wish my present self was able to give my past self some pointers when it came to moving in with a partner. That’s not possible, for “the passage of time” reasons. But I can help others. To that end, if you’re thinking about it or are about to embark on it, here’s everything you need to know about moving in with a significant other.

Dinner becomes a whole thing

Maybe “dinner” to you means grabbing some pasta on the way home or whatever, or having a plate of miscellaneous items while watching TV. Simple enough, right? After moving in with a partner, however, all of that changes. In other words: prepare to be asking “What should we have for dinner?” every day for the rest of your days. You’ll find yourself Googling “what to do with chickpeas” on the bus home, or “easy weeknight meals involving fish” as if it’s a second job. No more weirdo girl dinners for you! This is less a piece of advice and more just something to be aware of. Maybe learn a couple of go-to recipes ahead of time? It wouldn’t hurt.

Compromise, compromise, compromise

If, like me, you are highly neurotic to the point of undiagnosed neurodivergence, compromising can be the hardest part of sharing a home with a significant other. But it’s important to remember that it’s their home too, so you have to bend a little (or a lot). For example, my partner favours austere, almost industrial furniture, whereas I prefer a sense of cosiness. As such, we’ve had to meet in the middle (our wardrobe is a big metal cage, but we still have a nice velvet throw on the bed). This is probably the most important thing to remember—and become good at—before moving in with a partner. In other words: pause on the Pinterest board that only you have access to.

Don’t sweat the small stuff

There will definitely be times when you are annoyed. Maybe one of you always forgets to put food waste in the food waste bin, or the other doesn’t put the washing up away enough so now there’s a stack of dishes on the rack that’s so huge and teetering that you can barely see. It doesn’t really matter. Life is difficult enough without getting overly stressed out about minor house stuff that can be fixed with a gentle reminder (saying that, I could do with taking my own advice on this one).

Beware of becoming a singular unit

After moving in with a partner, it can be tempting to just spend all your time with them, having sex and watching Netflix and saying all the weird words and phrases that only the two of you understand. But, look, you’re still separate entities with separate interests, and it’s very important—and healthy—to continuously remember that. Make sure to carve out time to see friends or family without your partner on a regular basis, and encourage them to do the same. On the flip side, of course, you don’t want to create too much distance. Balance is key—you’ll know in your gut if you are leaning one way or the other. Which brings me neatly to…

Stay imaginative

Again, it can be easy to just hang out at home—what’s the point of date night if every night is date night, am I right girls? Wrong! Even if you live together, it’s important to carve out time to do fun stuff outside the house, because it will feel harder than before. I like to coerce my partner into going to restaurants, and we both love a gig. Forgive me for sounding like an ancient wench who’s been married for one thousand years as opposed to just one, but date night keeps things sexy and exciting, and that needn’t change even after you live together. And finally…

Take turns being a brat

One of the main things I’ve learned about living with a partner is that there will be some days when you are tired, stressed and/or irritable, and there will be some days when they are tired, stressed and/or irritable and it’s important to remember that you will mostly just need to take turns feeling like this so that you can take care of the other and just hope that your tired, stressed and/or irritable days don’t match up more than a few times a year.

10 sneaker trends you’re seeing everywhere in 2025

This year, no fashion item has made headlines quite like sneakers—Adidas Sambas. They were everywhere until they became too popular, prompting some people to sell them, some to bury them in their wardrobes and some to ignore the noise and wear them regardless. By contrast, the trainer trends that have defined the latter half of this year – and those forecast for next – suggest many people are striving for anti-mainstream designs. In an effort to avoid another Samba saturation situation, new-gen style fans have taken to customising trainers with charms, chains, ribbons and colourful laces, or have unearthed lesser-known archive styles as an alternative to those in the spotlight.

Of course, there has been a conveyor belt of cult styles that, like Sambas, have been worn by what feels like every celebrity and It-person (strategic seeding is partly to thank for this). In no particular order: Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66s, Puma Speedcats and various New Balance models (9060s, 530s, 574s and Aimé Leon Dore’s collab versions) have been popular this year. And best believe that crowds at Oasis’s reunion tour next summer will be two-stepping in Gallagher-inspired Adidas trainers (Liam Gallagher has collaborated with the brand on several takes on Spezials).

Other predictions: the comeback of skater trainers that “could have been stolen from your best friend’s older brother’s room in 2002, swiped from next to his Playstation 2”, as my colleague Daisy Jones recently observed. Based on the omnipresence of AI and material innovations, I predict some technological elements to be thrown into the mix, too. Along with a continued obsession with performance trainers and Gorpcore (Salmons, Hokas, Merrells, Vibrams and Asics continue dominate here) and pitch-worthy styles inspired by the women’s Euros. Of course there will also be an endless stream of collaborations. Scroll on for ten trainer trends to note for 2025.

The Bold and the Beautiful

Step aside, minimalism. This year, the sneaker-sphere is all about colour, where more is more. Miu Miu’s colorblocked, Gymnasium sneaker walked the spring/summer 2025 runway and became an instant street style must-buy, while many rainbow-coded iterations of classic sneaker shapes from Adidas, Nike, and other heritage brands have hit shelves. Injecting something bold into your usual mix is a smart move—just ask Bella and Gigi Hadid, who have been forerunners for the movement.

Sumptuous Suede

As fashion brands continue to divert to retro-inspired shapes, and sneaker houses keep plucking straight from the archive, we have seen a revival in suede fabrications, more so than plain leather. From Proenza Schouler’s track-inspired sneaker for spring/summer 2025, an editor-favourite in bright cobalt, to Dries Van Noten’s subtle update to their beyond-popular sports shoe, plus the success of Puma’s Speedcat, a favourite of sneakerheads like Dua Lipa and Emily Ratajkowski, suede is definitely on point.

The Sneakerina

No one was prepared for sneakerina fever, the sleeper hit of 2025. The buzz around these hybrid sneakers, characterised by elements of ballet, such as delicate laces or satin fabrications (similar to a pointe shoe), continues to gain momentum. Harry Styles was recently spotted out and about in London, wearing Prada’s Collapse sneakers, while early adopters of the trend included Bella Hadid and Amelia Gray, on the women’s front. Given that Simone Rocha featured a new variation of satin low-tops on her fall/winter 2025 runway, the sneakerina surely will remain popular through the end of the year.

Sporty Sprinters

From Miu Miu to Maison Margiela, sneakers inspired by sporty, sprinter shapes are having their moment. It’s a natural progression, given all the retro runners that are floating around currently. The main difference is that these have a treaded gum-sole, mimicking the idea of spikes, like those on the sole of their technical counterparts. Margiela’s Sprinter has become one to watch, while collaborations such as Comme des Garçons x Spalwart are selling quickly. Bottega Veneta’s reinvention of their Orbit sneaker, now in a low-runner shape, solidifies this as the next step in the world of throwback-inspired kicks.

Partnerships, partnerships, partnerships

Collaborations have always been a powerful tool on the sneaker landscape, with the most coveted styles selling at inflated prices on resale sites long after their initial release. This year saw continued success for the on-going partnerships between Wales Bonner and Adidas and Miu Miu and New Balance. With more brands jumping on the bandwagon at every turn, expect 2025 to be big on the collaboration front.

Step back in time

Trainer wins of recent years have been steeped in nostalgia. Yesteryear shoes bound for a return? Nike’s Noughties-hailing Shox – as Daisy put it, the “anti Samba”, which were reinterpreted as a mule by Martine Rose – Air Max 95s and 97s (the trainers of choice among ravers during my uni years), as well as the more humble Air Max 1s and Converse. My colleague Daniel Rodgers and I have also discussed whether he should bring back his Balenciaga Triple Ss (granted, they’re only seven years old, but they still feel kind of nostalgic) or whether they’re still too earnest.

What are those?

My former Vogue colleague Alex Kessler road-tested New Balance’s 1906L loafer-trainers ahead of their launch last year – one of the many sneaker hybrids that entered the chat in 2024. Elsewhere, Cecilie Bahnsen released sporty Mary Janes via her collaboration with Asics and Simone Rocha experimented with track-soled ballerinas, while Salomon unveiled a backless mule version of its XT-4 silhouette, made in collaboration with MM6 Maison Margiela. Salomon also joined forces with Sandy Liang to create coquettish ribboned sneakers – which tapped into the customisation trend of adding charms, chains and jewellery that has swept social feeds. This is a movement that Molly Rooyakkers, founder of Style Analytics, says can make “an otherwise standard item feel personal”.

Sk8er

Skater trainers are back. Though, puffy skater trainers shouldn’t reach Samba status – it would ruin their charm. The antithesis of streamlined silhouettes that have dominated of late, these chunky foamy stompers are shouty, bold and brazen. It takes the right styling to wear them; they’re not for everyone. A statement shoe by definition, but not a statement shoe by design. Vans, though, could be destined for mass appeal: I’ve seen a noticeable uptick in both the slip-ons and Old Skools, worn by the same crowd that were early endorsers of Sambas.

Pitch kicks

“With the women’s Euros coming up in summer 2025, get ready to see even more football-inspired sneakers everywhere,” asserts Rachel Makar, senior director of merchandising at StockX. Football fever already took over fashion during the men’s Euros – football shirts and scarves became a style fixture off the pitch, so prepare for 2.0 next summer. At the same time, Oasis will be on their reunion tour – Britpop is also, of course, intrinsically linked with football culture – so prepare to see fans rocking three-stripe trainers (and parkas, and mod cuts…).

Gorphardcore

Gorpcore is no longer a trend – it’s a lifestyle. I’ve overheard many a gorpy garb chat around my East London local, dispensed by guys dressed in parachute Gramicci trousers or Needles trackies, Beams cardigans and some kind of waterproof; ambling about with an ARCS bag slung across their body. They pine after performance trainers, including Salomons, Merrells, Hokas and Asics – the latter of which has out-performed most running shoe brands according to Emily Minea, director of merchandising at GOAT, who dubs it “the ultimate nondescript running brand”. I’ve also heard a couple of cliché Hackney dwellers moot the idea of Vibram V-Trails and wondered if they’d be down for Tabi trainers, should they enter the mainstream beyond Margiela – Molly predicts toe details could gain traction in 2025.

What experts want you to know about vitamin A for hair health

“Think of dietary vitamin A as your foundation, the nutrition that feeds your follicles from within,” says Dr Anand. That comes from foods like carrots, leafy greens, egg yolks and mangoes.

Topical forms, such as retinoid-based scalp serums, are more about addressing scalp conditions like flakiness or congestion. “I occasionally use topical retinoids in combination treatments,” says Dr Mour. “But their benefit is mostly to scalp health, not directly stimulating hair growth.”

Anand adds a word of caution. “The scalp is delicate, and too much topical vitamin A can leave it dry or irritated. Always consult your doctor before trying it.”

Can too much vitamin A cause hair loss?

Vitamin A for hair health is a balancing act. Too little is not ideal, but too much can be worse.

“Vitamin A is fat-soluble, so your body stores the excess rather than flushing it out,” says Dr Anand. “Overdo it, and your follicles can go into hibernation.”

Dr Mour adds. “Excessive intake, especially via supplements, can cause telogen effluvium, where a large number of hairs shift prematurely into the shedding phase.” The upper limit for adults is around 3,000 mcg, or 10,000 IU, per day. Exceeding that can lead to dry skin, brittle nails, fatigue and liver stress, along with diffuse hair loss.

The best food sources of vitamin A for hair health

Plant-based sources:

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Pumpkin
  • Spinach
  • Red bell peppers

Animal-based sources:

  • Egg yolks
  • Milk, cheese and yogurt
  • Oily fish like salmon
  • Liver (sparingly)

“Beta-carotene is the safest form because your body only converts what it needs,” says Dr Anand. “Think of it as the slow, steady friend you can count on.”

Dr Mour suggests pairing these with healthy fats like ghee, olive oil or avocado. “Since vitamin A is fat-soluble, it needs fat for optimal absorption.”

What does a vitamin A deficiency look like?

If you are not getting enough vitamin A, your hair will let you know.

“Hair becomes dry, brittle, more prone to snapping. The scalp may develop flakiness or follicular roughness,” says Dr Kohli. In more severe cases, a deficiency can lead to follicular hyperkeratosis, where small, rough bumps form around the follicles, and can contribute to overall thinning and breakage.

Should you try vitamin A scalp products?

Dr Mour says nutrition should always be your first step. “Diet is the first wave of improvement in the health of hair. Topical retinoids or serums may help improve scalp quality, especially when used alongside growth factors or peptides.”

Why protein powder lost its place in my routine

That’s when it hit me—protein, even in its “cleanest” form, is counterproductive if you’re consuming more than your system can handle.

#3 Some protein powders contain additives and artificial sweeteners

Protein powders come in a tempting array of flavours: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and more. But behind the sweet, sippable convenience is a less palatable truth. Many of these blends rely on additives and artificial sweeteners to improve taste and texture. My favourite was a strawberry-chocolate mix—sweet, creamy and easy to drink.

The downside is that these ingredients can disrupt the gut microbiome. Artificial sweeteners like aspartame and acesulfame K have been linked to an imbalance in gut bacteria, which may affect everything from digestion to immunity. In the editor’s case, it seemed to worsen his hay fever, which became so severe he could no longer step out without medication.

Some sweeteners have also raised concerns for their potential carcinogenic effects, although the research remains inconclusive.

Other ways to hit your protein goals

After giving up protein powder almost immediately, the discomfort disappeared. The bloating eased. The persistent, gassy heaviness lifted. There was only one catch: post-workout recovery. Without the usual protein shake, my sessions felt slightly less effective. Muscles that had been pushed hard weren’t getting the nutrients they needed to repair and rebuild.

That’s where amino acids came in. With smaller molecules and better bioavailability, they offered a gentler, more efficient alternative.

Amino acids are the fundamental building blocks of protein—think of them as links in a chain. When taken in isolated form, such as EAA (essential amino acids) or BCAA (branched-chain amino acids), they’re easier to digest and less likely to disrupt the gut. For those with sensitive stomachs or low stomach acid, they can be a more forgiving supplement, supporting recovery without the side effects.

This isn’t a blanket argument against protein. If your digestion is robust and your system processes it well, there’s no reason to avoid it. But the wellness world often highlights only the benefits, ignoring the fact that even a “healthy” supplement can be problematic for some. If you’re experiencing ongoing digestive issues and haven’t considered your protein intake, this might be the missing piece.

Horoscope Today: June 12, 2025

You can either freeze and be rigid, or move and bend along the way to curate a more flexible, supportive plan and way of being. Scorpio, it is time for your dreams to take flight, and your angels have been guiding you through your intuition to make a more solid plan of action. Rely on your instincts rather than sheer logic or the goodness of your heart. If you keep waiting for the world to get you, nothing will come of this situation; however, if you do decide to take charge and find ways that are more fitting for your growth, you will unlock treasures you’ve been sitting on and searching for.

Cosmic tip: Be gentle, but also firmly follow your own path.

Make your first move and watch the Universe respond. Sag, luck is on your side but be mindful of getting too cocky for your own good. When the going is good, stay humble and grateful; when the going feels a little rough, this humility will tide you by. Your dreams are your birthright and absolutely possible – but listen, do you have faith in them and in the cosmos enough to not get lost in your own pride? Your talents are meant to serve you and others, not the other way round, okay?

Cosmic tip: Allow your potential to awaken, humbly.

The hands that work the hardest are often the most worn out. So, Capricorn, take a look at yourself and appreciate all the work that goes behind the scenes. You may have had certain plans and goals, and you may now be wondering if they truly fit. But here’s the thing – they are not meant to fit or unfit – you are meant to simply make choices that feel suitable for you. So take a couple of deep breaths and allow your wound-up energy to fizzle out. See the wonders around you and revel in them for a bit.

Cosmic tip: You are simply meant to learn to love yourself as you are.

Even if you’ve been left feeling alone, Aquarius, someone and something have got your back. A new start is assured in the coming fortnight, and you? You are simply expected to hold your ground and your vision. Big plans turning into tangible manifestations solely depends on one thing – the ability for you to ask what is my task ais nd then take on the responsibility to fulfil it. Whatever you do, fuel it with love, and by Virgo season, you will be reaping rewards.

Cosmic tip: Once you pin it on your vision board, the cosmos obliges.

It’s time to double down, Pisces. The Universe is asking you – what have you got to give? What do you have to offer? And while you do it, do you really measure or give freely? When your intentions are created for the joy of creating, the craft you put out there stands out because it has soul in it. This is your time to create structure, order and clarity to set something up that is free-floating but could possibly thrive. Get onto your throne and make some wise choices. The Universe is listening.

Cosmic tip: Focus on practical details to achieve your goals.

Rashmika Mandanna’s beige Arpita Mehta churidar set featured kasab and cutdana embroidery

To kickstart her promotions for Kuberaa in Chennai, Rashmika Mandanna wore a monochrome hand-embroidered ensemble by designer Arpita Mehta. The beige kurta churidar set had a soft sheen owing to the gold tissue fabric it was fashioned from.

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

The kurta and dupatta showcased kasab and cutdana embroidery interspaced with mirrorwork along the hem and scattered motifs. Mandanna opted to pair the grounded yet graceful look with gold kohlapuri wedges.

The actor styled the silhouette with polki earrings decorated with pearl drop detailing and matching polki rings. Her hair was slicked back into a twisted bun and adorned with gajra, complementing the quiet regality of the outfit. The makeup featured brushed eyebrows, warm, shimmery eyeshadow with smudged kajal and pink glossy lips on an illuminating base.

From Vogue’s fashion desk:

“Rashmika leans towards a traditional look in her Arpita Mehta peach-ish nude salwar ensemble. Why not reimagine this silk number in an A-line shift dress that has detailing on the sleeve hem? Pair the dress with nude ballet flats or juttis with subtle detailing. Wear your hair in tousled waves, don a bindi and brown-kohled eyes. Finish the look with large silver earrings to complete the look and a slight nod to Indian fashion in the ’70s,” says Vogue India’s Associate Fashion Editor, Divya Balakrishnan.

I broke up with tretinoin cream—here’s how I rebuilt my skincare routine

Dr Kohli adds that some people even experience mild withdrawal-like symptoms, such as peeling, redness or dryness, as the skin recalibrates. But here’s the surprise: “Many patients find that after a tretinoin break, their skin actually performs better with gentler alternatives. The barrier has time to repair, sensitivity decreases, and they can often achieve similar results with less aggressive approaches.”

What you can use instead of retinoids

No single product can replace tretinoin cream, so I broke it down by function—collagen production, skin clarity, texture smoothing, anti-inflammation—and rebuilt my routine from the ground up. Dr Kohli and Dr Agarwal both outlined a list of powerful ingredient options:

Bakuchiol

Nature’s retinol, derived from the babchi plant. Dr Kohli calls it “a clinically proven retinol alternative that stimulates collagen production and improves skin texture without the typical irritation.” It can even be used day and night.

Azelaic acid

A godsend for rosacea. “Azelaic acid reduces inflammation, minimises pores, and addresses both acne and pigmentation concerns,” says Dr Kohli. It’s gentle, well-researched, and safe for long-term use.

Niacinamide

“Niacinamide strengthens the skin barrier and reduces inflammation,” says Dr Agarwal. It also helps regulate oil, shrink pores, and works beautifully with other actives. Consider this your barrier’s best friend.

Peptides

“They offer anti-aging benefits without exfoliation or irritation,” says Dr Kohli. Peptides tell your skin to produce more collagen and elastin, supporting firmness and elasticity gently.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C never really suited my skin, even before retinol or retinoids entered my skincare routine. For those it does work for, consistent use of vitamin C can “promote collagen synthesis and addresses pigmentation concerns while being suitable for pregnancy and breastfeeding,” according to Dr Kohli.

It’s not just physical, there’s a psychological shift too

Many dermatologists talk about something akin to skincare separation anxiety. “Some patients develop what I call ‘tretinoin dependency syndrome’—a psychological reliance on the idea that only this powerful ingredient can maintain their skin,” says Dr Kohli. “Breaking that mental connection is often harder than managing the physical transition.”

That rang true for me. Letting go of tretinoin cream meant confronting the deeper fear that my skin would go back to its “before” state—blotchy, uneven, inflamed. But it didn’t. In fact, with a new, gentler but still effective routine, it got calmer and more stable. Dr Kohli puts it best:

“We’re moving away from the ‘no pain, no gain’ mentality. The most beautiful skin is healthy skin—skin that feels comfortable, functions optimally and ages without being forced into submission.”

For some, retinoids like tretinoin cream are a skincare godsend. For others, it’s too much of a good thing. “The one-size-fits-all approach to anti-ageing is giving way to nuanced strategies that consider individual skin types, lifestyles, and tolerance levels,” says Dr Kohli.

The most radical act in skincare might not be using the strongest ingredient on the shelf—it might be choosing the one your skin actually wants. And right now, mine wants peace, not punishment.

I’ve been eating 2 eggs for breakfast for 2 weeks: here are all the benefits I’ve observed.

Forget the açai bowl or avocado on toast, the breakfast classic your body might really need is probably already in your fridge. Eggs are among the most complete foods, says naturopath Juliette Andreau. “They’re rich in high-quality protein, healthy fats—especially in the yolk—plus essential vitamins like A, D, E and B12, choline for brain and liver function, and minerals such as selenium and zinc.” That’s why she recommends starting the day with them. “If you digest eggs well and don’t have any known allergies or intolerances, there’s no reason not to eat them daily,” she explains.

For a long time, eggs were demonised because of their cholesterol content, but we know now that dietary cholesterol is not the big bad wolf we thought it was, especially when part of a balanced overall diet.

That said, as with everything, it’s the quality that makes the difference. Organic, free-range eggs, including those from small producers, are a completely different story from industrial eggs. As for how many to eat each day, Andreau recommends two, or even three if it is the meal’s only source of protein. This can be adjusted depending on physical activity levels, a vegetarian diet and other individual factors. The key, she says, is “better tone, fewer morning cravings, greater satiety and a positive effect on mood.”

According to Andreau, the benefits appear quickly, especially when eggs replace a sweet breakfast. That said, naturopaths prefer to observe “cycles” of 14 to 21 days to assess whether a new habit is making an impact.

What are the health benefits of eating eggs every day?

Sharper mental clarity

Thanks to choline, a nutrient known to support brain function and memory.

Improved hormonal balance

Eggs contain cholesterol, which plays a vital role in the production of sex hormones including progesterone, oestrogen and testosterone.

Better vision

They provide two powerful antioxidants—lutein and zeaxanthin—that help filter blue light and protect the eyes from screen exposure.

Stronger, shinier hair

Eggs are rich in sulphur, a mineral found in keratin. They also contain biotin, a B vitamin essential for healthy hair, nails and skin. Sulphur-based amino acids like methionine support liver detoxification and keratin production, both of which contribute to hair health.

Preferred cooking methods

“Gentle cooking is the key. Ideally, eggs should be soft-boiled or poached, so the yolk stays runny and preserves vitamins A and D, along with choline, which are all sensitive to heat,” says Juliette Andreau. “When cooked at high temperatures, as in hard-boiled eggs or omelettes, some of these nutrients are lost and the fats may oxidise.”
