13 best brown lip liners for the blurred lip trend

The best brown lip liners today might be sold as part of the “brownie glazed lips” trend, but their roots run deep in the beauty traditions of women of colour. Long before social media made it pop up on every beauty page, a brown pencil was a necessity, often the only way to make the available nude lipsticks actually work on deeper skin tones. For many, it still is.

What’s new, perhaps, is the finish; blurred, soft-focus, a little less precise. Where the ‘90s liner was unapologetically sharp and overdrawn, today’s version leans undone. It’s all about diffusion—liner that feathers into balm, pigment that looks kissed-in rather than filled out. A good brown lip pencil becomes the base, the frame and often the whole look.

To get that softly smudged, blurred-lip effect, technique matters just as much as texture. Start by slightly dulling the tip of your liner. This helps avoid harsh edges and creates a more diffused look. Trace just inside your natural lip line, then use your finger, a brush or the liner’s built-in smudger to blend the pigment inward. Finish with a swipe of gloss, balm or stain in the centre and let it melt outward for a hazy, just-bitten finish. For extra longevity, layer a bit of lipstick on top and blur again to keep everything soft but anchored.

Below, a curated edit of the best brown lip liners that deliver on pigment, blendability and tone. Each one is built for soft smudging, crisp definition or anything in between.

10 Stylish Outfits to Pair with a Black Nehru Jacket

Whether you’re dressing for a festive celebration, a family gathering, a wedding event, or even a smart-casual evening, this classic piece can take your look from basic to bold in seconds.

At Nihal Fashions, we believe fashion is all about expressing your unique vibe. That’s why we’re here to help you unlock the full styling potential of this wardrobe essential. If you’re asking yourself what to wear with a black Nehru jacket, we’ve got you covered with 10 curated outfit ideas that strike the perfect balance between tradition and trend.

Let’s get into it!

1. Classic White Kurta & Churidar Combo

Let’s start with the OG pairing: a crisp white kurta and churidar underneath your black Nehru jacket. It’s clean, iconic, and universally flattering. This look is ideal for formal occasions like poojas, engagement parties, or even pre-wedding functions.

Pair it with mojaris or juttis, and you’ve nailed ethnic elegance with minimal effort.

Why it works: The contrast of black and white adds sophistication without screaming for attention.

2. Pastel Kurta with Slim Pants

Inject some freshness into your look by pairing your black Nehru jacket with a soft pastel kurta—think mint green, blush pink, or sky blue. Complete the look with slim-fitted straight-cut trousers or chinos in beige or ivory.

This outfit is perfect for daytime events or summer weddings and gives a stylish twist to the traditional silhouette.

Still wondering what to wear with a black Nehru jacket? This pastel pairing is a modern go-to.

3. Printed Kurta with Solid Pants

Add some personality with a printed kurta—florals, block prints, or subtle stripes—under your black Nehru jacket. Let the jacket tone down the print for a more balanced, contemporary look.

Match it with solid-colored trousers to keep the attention where it belongs—on your killer kurta-jacket combo.

Pro Tip: Keep the print muted for formal events and go bold for festive evenings.

4. Monochrome All-Black Look

Want to look sharp and powerful? Try an all-black ensemble: black kurta, black pants, and your black Nehru jacket. This look screams confidence and class.

Add a gold brooch or a statement watch to elevate the outfit without making it too flashy.

This is your power move answer to what to wear with a black Nehru jacket.

5. Kurta with Dhoti Pants

Channel those royal vibes by pairing your black Nehru jacket with dhoti pants. Choose a contrasting kurta in maroon, mustard, or navy and let the flow of the dhoti add movement and flair to your outfit.

It’s a bold, fashion-forward option perfect for weddings, sangeets, or cultural festivals.

Why it works: The fusion of structure (Nehru jacket) and flow (dhoti) creates visual drama and depth.

6. Asymmetric Kurta & Fitted Trousers

Go contemporary by pairing your Nehru jacket with an asymmetric kurta. Think high-low hemlines or side slits. This adds dimension and instantly modernizes your ethnic outfit.

Opt for dark jewel tones like emerald green or royal blue to contrast against the black jacket. Complete with narrow trousers and loafers or ethnic slip-ons.

Need inspiration for what to wear with a black Nehru jacket to stand out? This asymmetric combo is pure fashion fire.

7. Short Kurta with Jeans or Denim

Yes, you read that right. Your black Nehru jacket can be paired with jeans for a smart-casual look that’s edgy and on-trend. Choose a short kurta (or even a longline shirt) in white, grey, or muted tones.

Add dark-wash denim and sneakers or loafers for an Indo-Western aesthetic that works for dinner parties, casual weddings, or even festive office events.

This one’s perfect when the dress code says ethnic but your mood says chill.

8. Silk Kurta with Embroidered Detailing

Take your festive style up a notch by pairing the jacket with a silk kurta, especially one with light embroidery or zari work. Shades like wine, emerald, or beige with gold detailing will contrast beautifully with your black jacket.

Pair with churidar pants and formal footwear to complete your regal look.

If you’ve ever Googled what to wear with a black Nehru jacket for Diwali or Eid, this is your showstopper answer.

9. Turtleneck Sweater for Winter Fusion Look

Fashion meets function in this winter-ready outfit. Layer your black Nehru jacket over a thin, well-fitted turtleneck sweater in grey, charcoal, or navy. Pair with tailored trousers or woolen pants and boots.

This Indo-Western fusion is bold, unconventional, and perfect for winter weddings or upscale parties.

Why it works: You stay warm while serving serious style points.

10. Kurta with Palazzos for a Modern Twist

Palazzo pants aren’t just for women—they’re catching on in men’s ethnic fashion too. Opt for a mid-length kurta and loose, structured palazzos in a neutral color. Throw on your black Nehru jacket and finish with sandals or leather flats.

It’s relaxed, breathable, and fashion-forward—a great option for artists, creatives, or anyone who loves making a sartorial statement.

Lehenga vs. Salwar Kameez – Which Style Steals the Show?

When it comes to Indian ethnic wear, the options are dazzling and endless. From the flowing grace of sarees to the royal allure of anarkalis, there’s no shortage of stunning styles to steal the show. But today, we’re zoning in on two iconic South Asian ensembles that rule the wardrobe of every fashion-forward desi girl: the Lehenga and the Salwar Kameez.

Both are rooted in a rich tradition. Both have evolved with modern flair. But which outfit takes the crown for your next festive, wedding, or glam-me-up moment?

Let’s break it down and dive into the world of pleats, panels, and panache with a deep look at the Lehenga vs. Salwar Kameez style debate, with some signature fashion tips from the trendsetters at Nihal Fashions.

First, What’s the Vibe of Each?

The Lehenga: Royal, Regal, Runway-Ready

The Lehenga is like the Bollywood queen of Indian fashion. Think twirls, flair, and sabyasachi-esque grandeur. It’s a long, voluminous skirt typically worn with a cropped choli (blouse) and a dupatta (scarf). Originating from Mughal times, the lehenga has transformed into a fashion statement that exudes drama and elegance.

It’s a go-to for brides, bridesmaids, and anyone who wants to make a red-carpet-worthy entrance.

Key Vibe: Glamorous, festive, bold, statement-making

The Salwar Kameez: Effortless, Elegant, Everyday Chic

Now, enter the effortlessly cool cousin—the Salwar Kameez. This ensemble consists of a long tunic top (kameez), paired with pants (salwar or churidar), and usually a dupatta. It’s a staple in Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi wardrobes, offering versatility that ranges from casual brunches to wedding sangeets.

The salwar kameez has been reinvented by designers to include palazzos, cigarette pants, and asymmetric kurtas, making it the chameleon of ethnic wear.

Key Vibe: Comfortable, classy, versatile, practical-chic

Style Battle: Lehenga vs. Salwar Kameez

Let’s stack them side-by-side across different fashion categories to help you decide which outfit speaks your style.

1. Occasion-Wise Wow Factor

Lehenga is your best bet for:

  • Weddings (especially the bride or close family)
  • Engagements and receptions
  • Grand festivals (Navratri, Diwali, Eid)
  • Photoshoots and high-glam events

It’s the ultimate pick when you want to stand out and say, “Yes, I’m in the moment.”

Salwar Kameez, on the other hand, is:

  • Ideal for family gatherings, mehndi nights, pujas
  • Perfect for semi-formal office events and cultural programs
  • Great for regular festive outings without overdoing it

This outfit whispers elegance with a wink.

2. Comfort Level

Let’s be honest—Lehengas, while gorgeous, can sometimes feel like carrying a mini wedding tent. If you’re not used to managing long skirts or heavy embroidery, they might require a little extra prep (and stamina!).

Salwar Kameez wins big on comfort. Whether it’s breathable cotton for daytime or crepe and georgette for parties, it lets you move, dance, and snack freely.

Nihal Fashions Tip: Opt for a lightweight lehenga with a pre-draped dupatta if you love the look but need ease. Or go for a palazzo salwar suit with heavy embellishments for the best of both worlds.

3. Twirling & Trending

If your event is big on dancing (think sangeet night or garba), the Lehenga twirl is iconic. With every spin, it creates a cinematic moment, making you feel like the star of your music video.

But don’t underestimate the Salwar Kameez. Modern kameez cuts—like peplum, high-low, or A-line—paired with flared pants give the same drama with a little more ease and edge.

4. Customization & Fusion

Both outfits have evolved beautifully to match Gen-Z and millennial tastes.

  • Lehengas now come with crop tops, cape dupattas, ruffled skirts, jackets, and even belt bags (yes, it’s a thing!). Fusion lehengas are all over Insta.
  • Salwar Kameez has embraced the Indo-Western vibe with shirt-style kurtas, asymmetrical hems, and sleek cigarette trousers.

At Nihal Fashions, our designers curate both traditional and experimental silhouettes—so your outfit feels like you, not a costume.

5. Investment & Re-wearability

Real talk—Lehengas can be pricey, especially with intricate zardozi or mirror work. While they’re showstoppers, they’re also not the easiest to re-wear often.

Salwar Kameez wins here. You can wear the same kameez with different bottoms, switch out dupattas, or even pair with jeans for a fusion look. It’s your wardrobe’s most versatile MVP.

Who Should Wear What?

There’s no one-size-fits-all, but here are a few cheat codes:

  • Lehenga is perfect for you if:
    • You love being the center of attention
    • You don’t mind a little extra glam and glitter
    • You’re attending a once-in-a-lifetime event (wedding, reception, etc.)
  • Salwar Kameez is made for you if:
    • You value comfort without compromising on elegance
    • You love a low-maintenance but stylish ensemble
    • You want an outfit you can wear multiple ways

Fashion Forecast: What’s Trending in 2025?

At Nihal Fashions, we keep a close eye on the style radar. Here’s what’s hot right now:

Lehenga Trends:

  • Monotone lehengas with metallic detailing
  • Jacket-style lehengas with statement sleeves
  • Pastel organza skirts with bold embroidered tops

Salwar Kameez Trends:

  • Peplum kurtas with shararas
  • Floor-length kameez with side slits
  • Velvet suits with minimal zari work for a rich winter vibe

So, whether you’re team lehenga or team salwar kameez, the key is confidence. Own your look, play with accessories, and always remember—style is personal, not prescriptive.

Where to Find Your Dream Outfit?

That’s where Nihal Fashions steps in. As one of the most trusted names in ethnic fashion, we offer a curated collection of designer lehengas and stylish salwar kameez sets that combine traditional roots with global trends.

Final Thoughts: Why Not Both?

Honestly? In the debate between lehenga vs. salwar kameez, there’s no wrong answer. Each has its moment to shine.

So why not embrace both? Keep a stunning lehenga ready for when you want to own the spotlight, and a versatile salwar kameez for when you want easy elegance with a stylish edge.

After all, you’re not one thing—and your wardrobe shouldn’t be either.

Hina Khan’s Shaadi Look? Less Drama, More Dhamaka!

When it comes to celebrity bridal looks, we often expect a whole Raja Hindustani level of drama—think flying veils, 100 kg lehengas and makeup heavier than emotional baggage. But trust Hina Khan to flip the script and serve up a bridal vibe that’s equal parts glam, grounded and full-on dhamaka—without the daily soap theatrics!

The Queen of No-Overdo

Hina Khan, known for her role as the ever-so-sanskari bahu turned glam queen, didn’t just walk down the aisle—she floated, sparkled and slayed. While most celeb brides go OTT like it’s a fashion version of Bigg Boss, Hina’s bridal look whispered, “I’m elegant, deal with it.”

No, she didn’t drown in layers of embroidery or blind us with diamonds the size of laddoos. Her look was the ultimate power move: minimal makeup, maximum impact. Think dewy skin, soft rosy tones, fluttery lashes and brows so on-point, they deserve their own fan club. Her bridal beat was fresh, feminine and fabulous—basically, a makeup artist’s mic drop moment.

That Wedding Saree Though!

handloom-sarees

Hina Khan’s wedding saree was a beautiful piece of art. She donned an opal green handloom saree with a blush pink blouse that had beautiful zardozi embroidery on it. The customized details made the outfit even more special. For example, her and Rocky’s names were masterfully woven into the fabric in Devanagari script, along with an infinity symbol that showed their lifelong relationship. The ensemble was finished off with a lovely pink veil with scalloped edges and a golden kiran patti border, giving it a wonderful wedding look.

The color? A refreshing break from the crimson crowd. She chose a soft, pastel tone. It felt dreamy, dainty and downright dazzling—like if your Pinterest board came alive and said namaste.

The Jewellery Game: Understated but Undeniably Wow

Heavy jhumkas? Check. Dainty maang tikka? Oh yes. But still, somehow, she looked like she could run a marathon—or at least dance to “London Thumakda” without breaking her neck.

Hina’s jewellery was a masterclass in balance. She wore a beautiful choker with gemstones in different colors, delicate earrings and a maang teeka that looked great on her forehead. She wore a lot of massive kundan kadas and bangles on her arms, which was a classic look that wasn’t too much. A few diamond rings gave a modern, sleek shine to the mix. It was traditional with a modern twist—just like her!

Hair: Sleek, Chic & Shaadi-Ready

Her hair was arranged in loose waves, with the middle part tucked perfectly behind her veil. She kept her makeup fresh by having glowing skin, rosy cheeks, delicate pink lips and eyes that were slightly defined. Nothing heavy or loud, just naturally beautiful. With every flick and flair, her hair screamed, “I woke up like this—just kidding, my stylist did.”

Vibe Check: 100/100

Let’s not forget the aura. Hina radiated a kind of calm confidence that made it clear—this bride didn’t come to play, she came to SLAY. Her smile was the only accessory that shone brighter than her outfit. She looked like she was enjoying her moment, not surviving it.

No stress, no stiffness, just chill and charm. It was as if she whispered to every bride-to-be, “You don’t have to be extra to be epic.”

The Verdict: Bridal Goals? Achieved

In a world where bridal looks often scream for attention, Hina Khan’s shaadi style spoke softly but powerfully. It said, “I’m here. I’m beautiful. And I’m not going to suffocate under a 20-layer can-can skirt to prove it.”

Her look was a breath of fresh, rose-scented air—a perfect blend of tradition, minimalism and that signature Hina glam. She didn’t just wear a Saree; she wore confidence, poise and a dash of sass.

So brides-to-be, take notes from this dulhaniya: Less drama, more dhamaka. Because in the end, confidence is your best accessory—and Hina wore it like a crown.

Want to recreate Hina Khan’s effortlessly glam bridal vibe? Indian Wedding Saree has you covered! From pastel Saree that twirl like a dream to statement jewellery that speaks elegance, explore styles that let you channel your inner diva—minus the drama.

This Indo-Chinese wedding had everything from a traditional Chinese tea ceremony to the Gujarati mandvo

Heather Cheng’s very first interaction with Keyur Gudka, was an email that landed in her inbox, warmly welcoming her to the team and extending any help she might need settling into the job at the London-based tech consulting firm they both worked at. Several emails, virtual meetings and Teams messages later, Gudka mustered up the courage to ask her out for drinks over a text message, during a night out with colleagues. Recalling the humour in that moment, Cheng says that she mistook his text and read it out to the whole group. “Thankfully, no one else accepted the offer. We realised soon enough, that we shared more than just a friendship,” she shares.

What followed was a whirlwind engagement, with a proposal in Nepal that included a sundowner boat ride on a lake, followed by dinner with traditional Nepalese dancers and music. Gudka had meticulously planned the entire evening, culminating in the moment where he dropped down on one knee under a canopy of flowers and flickering candles, to pop the question to Cheng .

As the couple immersed themselves in wedding planning and scouting for locations for their nuptials—Sri Lanka, with its windswept beaches and rustic charm, seemed like an apt choice, given that it served as a halfway meeting point for their families and friends flying in from Malaysia, London and India. They picked Anantara Kalutara Resort and Avani Kalutara Resort, offering picturesque riverfront and ocean views for their three-day celebrations.

“We shaped the flow of our wedding with Chinese traditions on the first day, Indian on the second, and a blend of both on the final day,” shares Cheng, adding that what made the entire affair special was how neither side of the families had experienced each other’s cultures, yet everyone was so open and curious to participate. “Each guest wanted to be as involved as possible.”

Their wedding mood board was a reflection of themselves and their shared interests—intimate, warm and full of intentional gestures, such as a hand painted tree frame, where guests could leave written notes as blessings for the newlyweds, brass accents and rattan baskets overflowing with fragrant jasmine, among other thoughtfully designed details to welcome their guests—from marigold garlands strung on room numbers, to handcrafted Sri Lankan masks made by a 7th generation artisan from Ariyapala & Sons near Colombo. Each hand-painted mask took about four days to carve from a single piece of wood. Guest rooms were stocked with local snacks, along with handcrafted teacups engraved with the couple’s wedding date and gold lettering of their initials. Cheng also illustrated their wedding invitations, along with designing and sketching event cards for each function, to personalise their celebrations.

Kajol’s peach organza sari with marodi embroidery is the perfect antidote to grey monsoons

With unpredictable showers, humidity and puddles, rainfall can definitely dampen your sartorial spirit. While the season warrants functional fashion, Kajol aced monsoon style with a more stealthy-chic look in tow. The actor was spotted wearing Label Anushree sari that is both practical and timeless.

For a recent outing, she wore a peach sari in weightless organza. It was woven with nothing but delicate gold buttis and laden with a rich marodi work border—a far cry from the elaborate embellishments and rich embroideries that typically dominate her traditional wardrobe.

A traditional Indian embroidery technique, marodi work traces as far back as the Vedic age and is associated with royalty. The craft is characterised by its raised designs that is done using metallic threads, often gold or silver. The word marodi, also known as marori in Gujarati and Hindi, means ‘twisted’, referring to the way the thread is twisted to create a textured, three-dimensional effect.

“Kajol’s peach sari is made-to-order and took about 20-25 days to get ready. Her sari is paired with a striped peach and gold open neck top,” shares designer Anushree Brahmbhatt Parekh behind Label Anushree. The actor accessorised her look with ornate stud earrings by Minerali, encrusted with gemstones. She kept to her usual makeup formula: a dewy base, soft smoky eyes, caramel gloss and highlighter. A small red bindi was the perfect finishing touch.

If the wet season had a dress code, Kajol’s fuss-free sari would be it. Featherlight, fast-drying and featuring a little sheen, the organza fabric is perfect to stay comfortable and look put together. The peach shade makes her drape apt for a daytime event, while the rich embroidery adds a festive touch, making it easy to transition to a pared-down soirée.
