“Greek yoghurt has nearly twice the protein of regular yoghurt, and fewer carbs,” says clinical nutritionist Heather Hodson, RDN, CDCES at NYU Langone Health to Vogue. It’s one of the few post-workout foods that fuel muscle growth and recovery and taste like dessert.

Small but stacked, quinoa packs a serious nutritional punch. As a rare plant-based complete protein, it delivers nine essential amino acids, plus complex carbs that refill glycogen stores and energise recovery. It’s also rich in magnesium and iron, key players in muscle function and repair.
“This grain-like seed is one of the few complete plant protein sources providing about eight grams per cup,” explains Alya Barmmer, MS, RDN, LDN, and founder of FullWell Fertility, to Vogue. It hits all the right notes—protein, power and recovery support.

Leucine in particular triggers muscle repair, making it especially effective after high-intensity sessions. “Whey provides an easy way to increase your protein intake if you’re not able to consume adequate amounts through whole foods alone,” says Samantha Dieras, RN, DCN, the director of ambulatory nutrition services at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, to Vogue. For 27 years, Lakshmi Myneni steered Akshara Books through Hyderabad’s shifting literary landscape. It’s never easy living with flatmates. All that making conversation over frying onions in the kitchen. Having to awkwardly interact with their situationships in the corridors. The fact that none of your cutlery or furniture ever seems to match or make sense together. Which is why, moving in with my partner five years ago felt like a dream—I was euphoric, almost. Finally, I thought, after decades of living with anywhere from two to six people, some of whom sieve their rice over the sink, it is now my turn to make a proper home.
But, listen, moving in with a partner isn’t always a walk in the park, either—especially not at first. You’re essentially blending your space and lives together, which can take some getting used to, even if you’ve been together for years. Both my wife and I, for example, have so many clothes between us that I sometimes worry that, one day, the clothes will simply fall off of their respective racks and we’ll both be crushed and buried beneath a pile of vintage bomber jackets, jeans and sweatshirts, never to be seen again. But anyway, I digress. Moving in with my partner: not easy.
Sometimes I wish my present self was able to give my past self some pointers when it came to moving in with a partner. That’s not possible, for “the passage of time” reasons. But I can help others. To that end, if you’re thinking about it or are about to embark on it, here’s everything you need to know about moving in with a significant other.
Dinner becomes a whole thing
Maybe “dinner” to you means grabbing some pasta on the way home or whatever, or having a plate of miscellaneous items while watching TV. Simple enough, right? After moving in with a partner, however, all of that changes. In other words: prepare to be asking “What should we have for dinner?” every day for the rest of your days. You’ll find yourself Googling “what to do with chickpeas” on the bus home, or “easy weeknight meals involving fish” as if it’s a second job. No more weirdo girl dinners for you! This is less a piece of advice and more just something to be aware of. Maybe learn a couple of go-to recipes ahead of time? It wouldn’t hurt.
Compromise, compromise, compromise
If, like me, you are highly neurotic to the point of undiagnosed neurodivergence, compromising can be the hardest part of sharing a home with a significant other. But it’s important to remember that it’s their home too, so you have to bend a little (or a lot). For example, my partner favours austere, almost industrial furniture, whereas I prefer a sense of cosiness. As such, we’ve had to meet in the middle (our wardrobe is a big metal cage, but we still have a nice velvet throw on the bed). This is probably the most important thing to remember—and become good at—before moving in with a partner. In other words: pause on the Pinterest board that only you have access to.
Don’t sweat the small stuff
There will definitely be times when you are annoyed. Maybe one of you always forgets to put food waste in the food waste bin, or the other doesn’t put the washing up away enough so now there’s a stack of dishes on the rack that’s so huge and teetering that you can barely see. It doesn’t really matter. Life is difficult enough without getting overly stressed out about minor house stuff that can be fixed with a gentle reminder (saying that, I could do with taking my own advice on this one).
Beware of becoming a singular unit
After moving in with a partner, it can be tempting to just spend all your time with them, having sex and watching Netflix and saying all the weird words and phrases that only the two of you understand. But, look, you’re still separate entities with separate interests, and it’s very important—and healthy—to continuously remember that. Make sure to carve out time to see friends or family without your partner on a regular basis, and encourage them to do the same. On the flip side, of course, you don’t want to create too much distance. Balance is key—you’ll know in your gut if you are leaning one way or the other. Which brings me neatly to…
Stay imaginative
Again, it can be easy to just hang out at home—what’s the point of date night if every night is date night, am I right girls? Wrong! Even if you live together, it’s important to carve out time to do fun stuff outside the house, because it will feel harder than before. I like to coerce my partner into going to restaurants, and we both love a gig. Forgive me for sounding like an ancient wench who’s been married for one thousand years as opposed to just one, but date night keeps things sexy and exciting, and that needn’t change even after you live together. And finally…
Take turns being a brat
One of the main things I’ve learned about living with a partner is that there will be some days when you are tired, stressed and/or irritable, and there will be some days when they are tired, stressed and/or irritable and it’s important to remember that you will mostly just need to take turns feeling like this so that you can take care of the other and just hope that your tired, stressed and/or irritable days don’t match up more than a few times a year.
This year, no fashion item has made headlines quite like sneakers—Adidas Sambas. They were everywhere until they became too popular, prompting some people to sell them, some to bury them in their wardrobes and some to ignore the noise and wear them regardless. By contrast, the trainer trends that have defined the latter half of this year – and those forecast for next – suggest many people are striving for anti-mainstream designs. In an effort to avoid another Samba saturation situation, new-gen style fans have taken to customising trainers with charms, chains, ribbons and colourful laces, or have unearthed lesser-known archive styles as an alternative to those in the spotlight.
Of course, there has been a conveyor belt of cult styles that, like Sambas, have been worn by what feels like every celebrity and It-person (strategic seeding is partly to thank for this). In no particular order: Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66s, Puma Speedcats and various New Balance models (9060s, 530s, 574s and Aimé Leon Dore’s collab versions) have been popular this year. And best believe that crowds at Oasis’s reunion tour next summer will be two-stepping in Gallagher-inspired Adidas trainers (Liam Gallagher has collaborated with the brand on several takes on Spezials).
Other predictions: the comeback of skater trainers that “could have been stolen from your best friend’s older brother’s room in 2002, swiped from next to his Playstation 2”, as my colleague Daisy Jones recently observed. Based on the omnipresence of AI and material innovations, I predict some technological elements to be thrown into the mix, too. Along with a continued obsession with performance trainers and Gorpcore (Salmons, Hokas, Merrells, Vibrams and Asics continue dominate here) and pitch-worthy styles inspired by the women’s Euros. Step aside, minimalism. This year, the sneaker-sphere is all about colour, where more is more. Trainer wins of recent years have been steeped in nostalgia. Yesteryear shoes bound for a return? Skater trainers are back. Though, puffy skater trainers shouldn’t reach Samba status – it would ruin their charm. The antithesis of streamlined silhouettes that have dominated of late, these chunky foamy stompers are shouty, bold and brazen. It takes the right styling to wear them; they’re not for everyone. Gorpcore is no longer a trend – it’s a lifestyle. I’ve overheard many a gorpy garb chat around my East London local, dispensed by guys dressed in parachute Gramicci trousers or Needles trackies, Beams cardigans and some kind of waterproof; ambling about with an ARCS bag slung across their body. They pine after performance trainers, including Salomons, Merrells, Hokas and Asics – the latter of which has out-performed most running shoe brands according to Emily Minea, director of merchandising at GOAT, who dubs it “the ultimate nondescript running brand”. I’ve also heard a couple of cliché Hackney dwellers moot the idea of Vibram V-Trails and wondered if they’d be down for Tabi trainers, should they enter the mainstream beyond Margiela – Molly predicts toe details could gain traction in 2025.
“Think of dietary vitamin A as your foundation, the nutrition that feeds your follicles from within,” says Dr Anand. That comes from foods like carrots, leafy greens, egg yolks and mangoes.
Topical forms, such as retinoid-based scalp serums, are more about addressing scalp conditions like flakiness or congestion. “I occasionally use topical retinoids in combination treatments,” says Dr Mour. “But their benefit is mostly to scalp health, not directly stimulating hair growth.”
Anand adds a word of caution. “The scalp is delicate, and too much topical vitamin A can leave it dry or irritated. Always consult your doctor before trying it.”
Can too much vitamin A cause hair loss?
Vitamin A for hair health is a balancing act. Too little is not ideal, but too much can be worse.
“Vitamin A is fat-soluble, so your body stores the excess rather than flushing it out,” says Dr Anand. “Overdo it, and your follicles can go into hibernation.”
Dr Mour adds. “Excessive intake, especially via supplements, can cause telogen effluvium, where a large number of hairs shift prematurely into the shedding phase.” The upper limit for adults is around 3,000 mcg, or 10,000 IU, per day. Exceeding that can lead to dry skin, brittle nails, fatigue and liver stress, along with diffuse hair loss.

“Beta-carotene is the safest form because your body only converts what it needs,” says Dr Anand. “Think of it as the slow, steady friend you can count on.”
Dr Mour suggests pairing these with healthy fats like ghee, olive oil or avocado. “Since vitamin A is fat-soluble, it needs fat for optimal absorption.”
What does a vitamin A deficiency look like?
If you are not getting enough vitamin A, your hair will let you know.
“Hair becomes dry, brittle, more prone to snapping. The scalp may develop flakiness or follicular roughness,” says Dr Kohli. In more severe cases, a deficiency can lead to follicular hyperkeratosis, where small, rough bumps form around the follicles, and can contribute to overall thinning and breakage.
Should you try vitamin A scalp products?
Dr Mour says nutrition should always be your first step. “Diet is the first wave of improvement in the health of hair. Topical retinoids or serums may help improve scalp quality, especially when used alongside growth factors or peptides.”
That’s when it hit me—protein, even in its “cleanest” form, is counterproductive if you’re consuming more than your system can handle.
#3 Some protein powders contain additives and artificial sweeteners
Protein powders come in a tempting array of flavours: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and more. But behind the sweet, sippable convenience is a less palatable truth. Many of these blends rely on additives and artificial sweeteners to improve taste and texture. My favourite was a strawberry-chocolate mix—sweet, creamy and easy to drink.
The downside is that these ingredients can disrupt the gut microbiome. Artificial sweeteners like aspartame and acesulfame K have been linked to an imbalance in gut bacteria, which may affect everything from digestion to immunity. In the editor’s case, it seemed to worsen his hay fever, which became so severe he could no longer step out without medication.
Some sweeteners have also raised concerns for their potential carcinogenic effects, although the research remains inconclusive.
Other ways to hit your protein goals
After giving up protein powder almost immediately, the discomfort disappeared. The bloating eased. The persistent, gassy heaviness lifted. There was only one catch: post-workout recovery. Without the usual protein shake, my sessions felt slightly less effective. Muscles that had been pushed hard weren’t getting the nutrients they needed to repair and rebuild.
That’s where amino acids came in. With smaller molecules and better bioavailability, they offered a gentler, more efficient alternative.
Amino acids are the fundamental building blocks of protein—think of them as links in a chain. When taken in isolated form, such as EAA (essential amino acids) or BCAA (branched-chain amino acids), they’re easier to digest and less likely to disrupt the gut. For those with sensitive stomachs or low stomach acid, they can be a more forgiving supplement, supporting recovery without the side effects.
This isn’t a blanket argument against protein. If your digestion is robust and your system processes it well, there’s no reason to avoid it. But the wellness world often highlights only the benefits, ignoring the fact that even a “healthy” supplement can be problematic for some. If you’re experiencing ongoing digestive issues and haven’t considered your protein intake, this might be the missing piece.
You can either freeze and be rigid, or move and bend along the way to curate a more flexible, supportive plan and way of being. Scorpio, it is time for your dreams to take flight, and your angels have been guiding you through your intuition to make a more solid plan of action. Rely on your instincts rather than sheer logic or the goodness of your heart.
