What’s the common denominator between a Balinese bhel, prawns dunked in warm kokum and laal maas, you ask? None at all. It’s reason enough that they exist. There is the influence of owner Suren Joshi’s Rajasthani heritage in the dal baatis, Jaisalmer stone jali screens and the terracotta pots greeting you at the entrance. Unlike its predecessor in Bandra, the new Joshi House is not housed in a white haveli. It could not have been, situated as it is in the heart of Worli Koliwada—one of Mumbai’s oldest fishing villages, home to the kolis, the first residents of the city. The Koli influence makes its way into the menu too: Rawa fried bombil, prawn Koliwada and coconut crab curry.

At a time when there is no reason for us to go out and kill our souls in the bowels of increasingly crumbling cities, a restaurant needs to be more than the food it serves. We can’t afford to assault our senses with another predictable bowl of truffle pasta or some vague version of avocados and guacamole that makes even the saddest gruel look like Manna. Joshi House, to me, attempts to solve this problem in the way it’s laid out—deceptively simple and not stuck in outdated notions of space. In most cases, it works. The blips are in the food here and there. A yellow cement floor is the bedrock for the first floor that gets broken by chairs with lions as handles. On all four sides, it is enclosed by transparent windows.

Midi skirts—first popularised by Christian Dior—have become a mainstay in occasionwear today. Case in point: Sonam Kapoor’s latest look from Japan. But before we break down what she wore, let’s rewind.

It all goes back to the designer’s 1947 ‘New Look’ collection, where he introduced mid-calf-length skirts with cinched waists after WWII, promoting a return to ultra-feminine silhouettes. Clearly, the garment has stood the test of time. Yesterday in Kyoto, Sonam Kapoor, the brand’s global ambassador, opted for a structured black belted jacket with a high collar and button-down front, cinched at the waist, layered over a crisp white shirt and a black midi pencil skirt. A white Lady Dior bag added contrast, and black stilettos completed the look.

Another highlight was her hair and makeup, which subtly nodded to Japanese influences with their clean lines and sculptural form. The Aisha actor opted for a sleek, centre-parted low bun, accessorised with a statement hairpin featuring a circular metallic design and stick pin element. For makeup, she chose a winged liner, softly contoured blush pink cheeks, and a pink-rose lip.

Since her announcement as the brand’s ambassador, she has worn various ensembles from the French maison. At their Paris Fashion Week show, Kapoor embraced a monochromatic look featuring a sheer, fluid dress from Dior’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection. She paired it with a faux fur coat from the Resort 2025 collection. Her bijoux were white and black—pearl earrings and a black gajra in her hair. Her trusted black Lady Dior bag tied her look together.

Then there’s those rage rooms. “Initially, it can feel like a release,” says Cherise Stewart, LMFT, a marriage and family therapist practising in the Bay Area and author of several anger workbooks for adults, teens and children. “But when you’re really feeling angry…that can actually make you more angry.” And over time, “we end up training our brains to associate emotional release with physical aggression,” Stewart explains. So people who rely on these kinds of practices tend to develop a more aggressive, less healthy style of coping with anger, Dr. Martin says.

As for verbal or written catharsis—a.k.a. venting or rage journalling—this tends to feed your angry thoughts and feelings instead of helping you let them go. Venting can fan the flames of anger by encouraging rumination, Stewart explains. That’s where you’re rehashing how pissed off you are and why—chewing on frustrated or vengeful thoughts over and over.

The truth is, sure—the odd primal scream or rage run probably isn’t gonna hurt ya. (And again, might feel so damn good in the moment.) But the goal is to accept, process and channel your anger instead of ramping it up, Stewart says. On that note…

What to do instead

If unleashing your fury isn’t a thing after all, what does work? It turns out, moving your body, writing or talking about your anger, and channelling your energy can be healthy tools for working with your anger—if used correctly. Here’s what the experts recommend.

1. Instead of rage-running, try gentle movement

The first step is to regulate your body, says Akua K. Boateng, PhD, an individual and couples therapist and founder of Boateng Consulting. “The experience of anger is healthy, but a prolonged state of that hyperarousal is just not good for the body.” It’s also harder to think clearly or take wise action in that state. “We want to calm our bodies and get out of the stress response so that we can actually do something productive with our anger,” Stewart explains.

So skip the hardcore workout in favour of more low-key forms of movement. Dr. Boateng recommends stretching and foam-rolling (or even massage) to relieve the muscle tightness connected to anger. Dr. Martin likes a short walk in nature. That same review of studies on exercise also found that movement like yoga and playing ball sports significantly decrease anger (along with relaxation strategies, mindfulness and meditation). Other things to try: grounding exercises, taking a cold shower, EFT tapping and diaphragmatic breathing. These are also solid ways to regulate after you lost your cool or couldn’t resist your cathartic moment.

2. Instead of venting, constructively write or talk about it

While unchecked ranting isn’t productive, sharing your thoughts and feelings (with your journal or a person) with the intention to process and problem-solve “can be really therapeutic,” Dr. Martin says.

How to clean makeup brushes the right way? While it may not be the most exciting part of your routine, it’s still crucial for your skin’s health. We’ve all grabbed a brush that’s seen too many applications, collecting layers of product. But brushes don’t just hold onto makeup—they trap bacteria and buildup that can irritate your skin and mess with your makeup. Dr Madhuri Agarwal, founder and medical director of Yavana Aesthetics Clinic, explains, “Think of your makeup brush like a petri dish—every time it touches your face, it collects substances that can lead to clogged pores, trigger acne breakouts.”

Dirty brushes can also exacerbate conditions like rosacea or eczema. “They can introduce allergens and irritants that worsen these issues,” says Agarwal. Makeup Artist Sanya Dhingra agrees. “Cleaning makeup brushes is essential as it can accumulate bacteria, makeup residue and oil, especially from creams or liquids,” she says.

How often should you clean your brushes?

If you wear makeup occasionally, clean your brushes once a week or every two weeks. “I wash my brushes with a soap bar weekly to keep them in good condition and use 99% pure alcohol after every client or between clients,” says Dhingra. For hygiene reasons, she avoids using products directly from their containers on clients’ skin. I always take the product out on a mixing palette,” she says. This maintains cleanliness and extends the life and effectiveness of the brushes.

“For oily or acne-prone skin, cleaning your brushes every 2 to 3 days is recommended,” says Agarwal. If you have sensitive or rosacea-prone skin, wash your makeup brushes every other day to avoid irritation or buildup that could trigger flare-ups.

Eye makeup brushes should also be cleaned after every use. “Clean your eye makeup brushes after every use as the eyes are highly sensitive and prone to infections,” advises Agarwal.

How to clean and store makeup brushes?

Keeping your makeup brushes clean doesn’t need to be difficult or costly. “Skip expensive brush cleaners and opt for a mild, fragrance-free shampoo, a gentle facial cleanser, or sulfate-free liquid soap,” says Agarwal. She suggests using lukewarm water and gently massaging the cleanser into the bristles, avoiding submerging the brush handle. Soak and swirl your brushes in the solution on a brush-cleaning mat or your palm, then rinse until the water runs clear.

“Protein powders are concentrated sources of protein derived from both animal and plant-based foods,” says Kripa Jalan, nutritionist and founder of Burgers To Beasts. While whole foods are ideal for protein intake, powders offer a convenient alternative to meet daily needs.

Here’s a breakdown of the most popular types:

Whey protein

Whey is often the top choice, thanks to its fast digestion. “It’s rich in branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), making it ideal for post-workout recovery and muscle gain,” says Jashan Vij, health coach. However, its dairy base makes it unsuitable for those with lactose intolerance or milk allergies.

Casein protein

Another milk-based option, casein, is known for its slow-release digestion. “It’s perfect for maintaining muscle mass during periods of fasting or sleep,” explains Vij. It’s best avoided by those sensitive to dairy.

Plant-based proteins

Ideal for vegans and vegetarians, plant-based proteins include soy, pea, rice, and hemp. “Soy is a complete protein, as effective as whey for muscle-building,” says Jalan. “Pea protein is affordable and easy on the stomach, especially when paired with rice to balance amino acids.” Hemp protein provides added fibre and omega-3s, though it’s lower in protein. Avoid soy if you have allergies.

Egg white protein

A lactose-free alternative, egg white protein offers high-quality complete protein. “It is low in cost and contains necessary amino acids,” explains Vij. But those with egg allergies need to steer clear.

Collagen protein

Collagen protein is less about muscle and more about maintenance — think joints, skin, and gut health. “It is a primary source assisted with wellness-oriented goals rather than muscle building,” adds Vij. While it can be taken at any time, it’s often stirred into smoothies or coffee for ease.

Which protein powder is best? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Your choice depends on your goals.

Build muscle

For muscle gain, go for fast-absorbing options like whey isolate or a plant-based blend, such as pea and rice. “These support recovery and muscle repair, especially after workouts,” advises Jalan.

Vij suggests a mix of whey and casein for optimal muscle growth. “Look for 20–30 grams of protein per serving, plus BCAAs for recovery.” Whey is best post-workout, while casein works well before sleep to repair muscles overnight.

Fat loss

For fat loss, choose low-carb, low-fat options like whey isolate, plant-based proteins (rich in fibre), or satiating casein. “These proteins are low in calories but high in protein, limiting sugar or fillers,” says Vij.
