How to make sheer dresses work off the red carpet

It’s important to let sheer dresses have their moment. Joshi adds that the most common mistake is trying to do everything at once. “They tend to either over-layer, losing the delicacy that makes sheer fabrics so special, or under-layer, which can feel accidental rather than intentional.”

“I love pairing sheer with a corset, clipping the sheer layer to the corset instantly adds structure and elegance. Try gathering or crunching the sheer slightly for extra visual interest, and if you’re feeling bold, layer it over a semi-sheer corset for a daring yet refined look,” advises Tupili.

In case you are planning your next vacation, Joshi recommends Sheer dresses over bikini sets or bralets. “It really enhances the figure and is perfect for vacation dressing.”

And for everyday elegance? “Tailored blazers or waistcoats instantly add sharpness — pair a sheer blouse with wide-leg trousers and a blazer or waistcoat for an understated power look,” says Joshi. “A crisp white shirt under a sheer dress really balances androgyny with an otherwise feminine silhouette.”

“There’s something so poetic about sheer fabrics being paired with delicate lace detailing. The sheerness allows the lace to truly stand out, creating a play of texture that feels feminine yet understated,” says Jajodia.

But in a country where the weather is always plotting against you, layering takes strategy. “Balancing layers in sheer dressing is about creating depth without overheating. Pair sheer overlays with fitted inner slips or camisoles in breathable fabrics like cotton, silk, or modal. Soft, pastel colours and light fabrics naturally help keep the look airy and elegant,” says Jajodia.

This year belonged to sheer, from Margot Robbie’s Armani Privé moment to Madison Beer at the Grammys 2025. And maybe it can be yours too, minus the red carpets and minus the oopsies.

Can a longevity diet really slow the signs of ageing?

Often, when I talk to relatives or friends about healthy eating or a particular healthy eating habit, I hear the reply, “Why give up so many pleasures? Our fate depends on our genes anyway.” And while this is partly true, research teaches us that everyone’s eating habits and lifestyle largely influence the quality of our lives. One area of genetics, epigenetics, is concerned with studying how the environment around us, and especially our daily behaviour and habits (including eating habits), affect the expression of the genes we have inherited, encased in DNA. In other words, it reveals that we are not at the mercy of our genetic inheritance. We can take our destiny into our own hands by determining how our cells behave through our daily choices, whether physical activity, stress management, social relationships, exposure to pollution or nutrition, a crucial factor in gene expression.

How do we nourish ourselves to express our protective and longevity genes and “turn off” those related to inflammation? By adopting the epigenetic diet, a type of nutrition that helps express genes that reduce inflammation, slow ageing and reduce our biological age. This approach overlaps with what many know as a bold longevity diet, since the goal is to support long-term health through targeted foods. As explained by an authority on the subject: Dr Lucia Aronica, professor and researcher at Stanford University, a leading expert on epigenetics whose work has even appeared on Netflix.

How does nutrition affect our genes?

Food is not just calories: it’s code. Every bite we eat sends precise instructions to our genes, turning them on or off like molecular switches. This happens through epigenetics, chemical changes that sit “on top” of DNA (from the Greek “epi” = on top) and regulate its expression without changing its sequence. Think of your DNA as computer hardware. Epigenetics is the software, and what you eat reprogrammes it every day. Epinutrients in food, from broccoli to eggs, fish to green leafy vegetables, communicate with special enzymes that write or erase these epigenetic marks, just like editors reviewing a text. The most powerful message? We are not passive readers of our genetic code; we are active authors of our health story. While we cannot change the words (the genes), we can choose how we use them through daily choices that influence gene expression.

What is an epigenetic diet or nutrition?

I do not call it “epigenetic diet” (the name “diet” is often, though mistakenly, associated with “restriction”). I call it epinutrition, a practical approach I developed at Stanford to support gene expression through nutrition. Epinutrition is like a friendship between plant and animal foods, where each offers unique benefits. It is based on two basic categories of epinutrients, nutrients essential for the functioning of our epigenetic processes:

Methyl donors (such as folate, B12, choline and betaine): they provide the building blocks for epigenetic changes. We find them both in green leafy vegetables and in animal foods such as eggs, liver and fish.

12 winter perfumes that wrap you in warmth from morning to midnight

Winter changes the way perfume behaves. Cold air slows diffusion, skin holds on to richer ingredients and suddenly the light florals that worked in July don’t linger past noon. This is the season when winter perfumes lean into depth. Woods feel denser. Spices feel brighter. Vanilla turns velvety instead of sticky. Amber and oud glow the way a room does just before the lights dim.

Across perfumery, there is a shared logic to winter scents. Cedarwood and sandalwood bring warmth, like the inside of a shawl after a long walk. Cinnamon and clove add lift. Vanilla settles the composition into something plush and familiar. Oudh and myrrh step in when the temperature drops, lending mystery once the sun clocks out early.

This edit moves from cosy to opulent, the way a winter evening does: first warmth, then mood.

Lancôme La Vie Est Belle L’Elixir

₹9800

A velvet-soft floral built around violet leaf and cocoa butter. It opens with sweetness before moving into a creamy, gourmand haze that will envelope your knitwear. It is floral at first touch, fruity around the edges and indulgent in its drydown. A winter pick for someone who wants warmth without losing brightness.

Jo Malone London Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense

₹16900

A dark rose steeped in oud, lifted by clove. The Damask rose gives it a plush centre, while the oud turns it shadowy. The result is floral but not fragile. Deep but not heavy. A rose for people who are bored with traditional rose perfumes.

Rabanne Million Gold For Her Parfum

₹12550

A warm sandalwood centre wrapped in jasmine and ylang ylang. The woody twist gives it grip in cold temperatures and the floral heart keeps it luminous. This is a party scent. Gold in spirit. Warm in its trail.

Hermès Barénia Eau de Parfum Intense

₹10700

A chypre reimagined for intensity. Butterfly lily and oakwood sit over Barénia leather, with patchouli adding weight. It is elegant in a way that feels lived-in rather than pristine. The closest thing to the scent of a beloved leather jacket warmed by winter sun.

Guerlain Absolus Allegoria Santal Royal

₹18700

Sandalwood meets neroli, jasmine, peach and rose before moving into leather, amber and oudh. The composition shifts as you wear it, opening bright and finishing with a darker afterglow.

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum Intense

₹17300

Patchouli in abundance, warmed by vanilla absolute and tonka. Rose and jasmine soften the scent profile, while citrus keeps it from feeling heavy. It is deep and sensual, familiar but never predictable–winter perfumes for anyone who likes their classics with more body.

Kilian Paris Angels’ Share Paradis

₹30000

Think of this as a boozy dessert by candlelight. Cognac, raspberry liquor and warm spirits set the scene, followed by a molten heart of tonka bean, oakmoss and Bulgarian rose. It settles into praline and sandalwood over aged oak. Perfect when you want your perfume to feel like a private ritual.

Ajmal Chapter 4

₹5600

Chapter 4 starts with olibanum and pink pepper, a quick spark of spice. It moves into a woody blend of leather, cedarwood and sandalwood supported by benzoin, patchouli, Peru balsam and cypriol. The base shifts into a richer mood with black cherry, caramel and davana, adding a final hit of sweetness that contrasts the earlier smoke and wood.

YSL Libre Le Parfum

₹12500

Lavender, but not as you know it. Here it is wrapped in saffron from the Ourika Gardens, making it warmer and more vivid. Vanilla softens the spine. A strong winter companion for anyone who wants something confident and spicy.

Valentino Donna Born in Roma Intense

₹14050

Vanilla opens this fragrance with a richer character than the original, drawing you in before the jasmine trio begins to round the edges. Benzoin adds a warm, resinous quality that lends the vanilla its lasting presence in winter air. The result is a floral amber scent that makes its presence known without overwhelming the room.

Jean Paul Gaultier La Belle Le Parfum Intense

₹12260

La Belle Le Parfum Intense opens with a ripe green pear note that feels juicy rather than sugary. Vanilla builds through the heart of the fragrance, giving it a creamy warmth. Tonka bean settles in at the end in this sensual, oriental gourmand.

Maison Margiela Replica By the Fireplace

₹11200

We can’t talk about winter perfumes without mentioning By the Fireplace. Chestnut. Clove. Guaiac wood. Vanilla hiding just beneath the smoke. This is winter to its bones. Comforting and warm, it sits close to the skin the way wool does, and lasts through long nights and longer commutes.

5 Celebrity Saree Blouse Designs Inspired by Deepika to Suhana!

Let’s be honest-sarees garner all the limelight, yet it is that blouse that seals the deal! Maybe it will have a backless display, puff sleeves that drape drama, or the fitting to give the glitz of a corset, blouses can make or break an outfit. And whom else to take fashion cues than these glittering Bollywood divas? From Deepika Padukone’s regal styling to Suhana Khan’s Gen-Z swag, these stars free the saree from the shackles of dry banalities.

deepika-padukone

Every saree moment for Deepika Padukone is a red-carpet moment. Her favorite combination appears to be luxurious fabrics with absolute classic cuts and that queen energy. Bonus: Velvet is perfect for a winter wedding, so you’ll be looking hot and staying warm—literally.

  1. Alia Bhatt-The Minimalist Muse

If there were an Indian ambassador for the concept that ‘less is more,’ Alia Bhatt would undoubtedly be the ideal choice. Her style of saree blouses is simple with a touch of charm. Pastel shades-It’s all about soft organza drapes that whisper elegance rather than shout about it.

Your Alia-inspired blouse would be your best mate for any daytime function or pre-wedding brunch. One would want to pair it with pearl jewelry or floral pieces to keep the feeling tender and romantic.

Pro tip: Keep one wear makeup dewy and hair loose with a little bit of “I woke up like this”-but Bombay style.

  1. Kiara Advani—The Beyond-Glamour Girl

Kiara Advani’s saree looks are an advanced lesson in balancing glam with grace. Be it a mirror-work blouse or the more risqué corset style; she always means business. These metallic and sequined blouse styles are apt for cocktail nights or sangeet parties where one intends to sparkle brighter than the disco ball.

A blouse in the Kiara style should go well with a chiffon or georgette saree for that balancing effect. Set those lips glossy, create beach waves on flowing locks, and stomp those stilettos—thus laying a jaw-drop-worthy carpet that would do the bride proud (Oops!).

  1. Katrina Kaif – The Timeless Classic

katrina-kaif

Any day can be turned into a chic day by impeccable styling of Katrina Kaif’s saree looks! Katrina has a rather chilled style and often goes for solid colors with sleeveless or halter neck blouses. There’s an amazing charm in Katrina’s style: the beautification is created through simplicity rather than drama.

A halter or high neck blouse like Katrina’s goes beautifully with a chiffon saree or even a crepe drape on the light side. Chandelier earrings, soft curls, and nude makeup will let you shine with the aura the “classic Bollywood heroine” glowed with. You would be the calm within the storm at a wedding, and believe us, it is a superpower!

5: Suhana Khan–The New-Age Glam Queen

suhana-khan-saree-style

Suhana Khan who gets traffic in the spotlight is made of modern-day magic when it comes to draping saree looks. She has put that youthful twist on traditional styles with perhaps even daring cut-outs, contemporary silhouettes and interesting fabrics like organza and shimmer net. Her blouses speak a language of their own—chic, cropped and totally trendy—ideal for bridesmaids with a love for experimentation.

Want to pump some of Suhana’s moods? Go for a fitted corset blouse or maybe a backless one with sleek strap detailing. Diamond studs, glossy skin and an aura with a smile are what would just complete this outfit-the two words suggest new-age diva and yes, we stand partner.

Bonus Tip: Mix, Match and Rock Those!

The beauty of today’s saree and blouse is that there are no rules to break into. A traditional saree could find itself paired with a contemporary blouse, or mixing prints and fabrics could be trend-making in its own rights. Try sleeve styles-puff, cape, bell, or off-shoulder! Experiment with neck styles-sweetheart, boat, halter, or a deep plunge. The blouse galaxy is your playground!

Whichever way you look at it, confidence is your resort in any outfit, scream comfort into that ! Whether you are going for Deepika’s regal vibe or Suhana’s chic Gen-Z spin, the right blouse will have you feeling unstoppable.

Final Drapes & Thoughts

This wedding season, just owning a saree won’t be enough. Let your blouse whisper a story-elegant, bold or sparkle worthy. When you look good, you don’t just create eyeballs, you make memories (and probably drop a few aunts’ jaws along the way).

Go ahead and raid your wardrobe, or present this creative challenge to your tailor. After all, saree blouses aren’t just garments–they’re style statements wrapped in six yards of sass!

You can easily replicate these looks by choosing local tailors or online boutiques that offer customization. Opt for similar fabrics, embroidery patterns, and neck styles to capture the vibe without spending like a star!

Boat neck and elbow-length sleeve blouses—like the ones often worn by Deepika—flatter most body types. They add elegance and structure while giving a timeless appeal.

Absolutely! A statement blouse can instantly elevate a plain or minimal saree. Pair Suhana Khan–inspired trendy cuts with solid silks or chiffons to balance glamour and grace.

Go bold with statement earrings or chandbalis like Deepika, or keep it youthful with delicate chokers and minimal makeup like Suhana. The key is to let the blouse shine while keeping accessories complementary.

Vogue World is heading to Milan in 2026

After exuberant iterations in New York, London, Paris, and Los Angeles over the last three years, it was high time that Vogue World journeyed to Italy—and indeed, Vogue Italia announced this morning that the fifth edition of the global fashion celebration will take place on September 22, 2026, in Milan.

That date is deeply intentional. Vogue World: Milano will open Milan Fashion Week with a very clear goal: to celebrate Italian creativity; fashion as both culture and industry; and the human touch in the age of technology.

“Milan has always stood for the perfect balance between craft and creativity,” says Anna Wintour, Chief Content Officer, Condé Nast, and Global Editorial Director, Vogue. “It’s a city that knows how to make the handmade feel modern and the modern feel timeless. Bringing Vogue World here will be our biggest celebration yet of fashion’s human touch.”

The event is being developed in close collaboration with the City of Milan—represented by Mayor Giuseppe Sala and Deputy Mayor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi—around a shared vision of how to celebrate Italy’s cultural excellence and creative future.

As the mayor put it in a statement, “Milan is proud to host Vogue World in 2026. I would like to thank the entire Vogue family, starting with Anna Wintour, for the trust and appreciation they have shown our city by choosing it for such an important event.”

Mayor Sala continued: “Creativity, innovation, sustainability, and sartorial craftsmanship are the pillars of Made in Italy, qualities that Vogue World: Milano, with its expertise and vision, will help share and celebrate around the world.”

The event will be held in the heart of the city, transforming a cultural capital that has, more than any other in Europe, demonstrated its ability to renew and reinvent itself on a global stage where fashion, art, culture, and entertainment intertwine.

Since its debut, every edition of Vogue World has celebrated the culture and identity of its host city, reimagining the traditional concept of the fashion show while also supporting important and relevant causes. To date, the event has raised more than $7 million for charitable organizations supporting creative and educational communities around the world. Continuing to build on that philanthropic mission, the 2026 edition will support initiatives dedicated to Milanese craftsmanship, creativity, and cultural heritage. A dedicated committee of local institutions will help identify beneficiary organisations.

Vogue World started in New York in 2022, with a vibrant street fair that helped reenergize fashion week after the COVID-19 pandemic. In London the following year, the event consisted of a spectacular evening of theater in support of that city’s performing arts community. Then, in Paris in 2024, Vogue World celebrated 100 years of fashion and sport. The most recent show took place just a few weeks ago, in Hollywood, where Vogue explored the rich conversation between fashion and film.

The skincare sandwich method may be your skin’s saviour this winter

As winter starts to roll in, along with cosy blankets and your favourite cup of chai, so does the inevitable skin dryness. But the viral skincare sandwich method that promises to seal in hydration and leave you looking like a glazed doughnut might just be what you need in your routine. “The concept revolves around layering hydration strategically, typically applying lighter, water-based products first, and then ‘sealing’ them in with richer emollients or occlusives,” says Dr Anupriya Goel, medical director and aesthetic dermatologist at Berkowits Hair and Skin Clinic.

Think of it as a butter-and-toast, layer your hydration right, and everything stays dewy and supple. So here’s how to layer products the right way, for healthy and plump skin all winter long.

Is skincare sandwiching actually science or just a marketing fad?

Everything can be the next big thing if it is marketed right. Does the skincare sandwich method fall under this category, too? Is it just good marketing? According to Dr M Jafferany, psychodermatologist and Advisory Council at SEREKO, there is real science at play. “The science behind it is rooted in preventing Trans-Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) or the water loss from the skin’s surface, which worsens in dry winter air. Skincare sandwiching is an effective technique that ensures you get the most out of your hydrating products. It works by trapping the moisture from thinner formulas and sealing it in with an occlusive layer. This improves absorption and also prevents any irritation.”

However, it is also true that too many cooks can spoil the broth, or, in this case, clog your pores. Dr Goel warns that the biggest mistake people tend to make is over-layering or using products that aren’t meant to be combined. “Mixing multiple heavy products can lead to pilling, breakouts or even barrier congestion. Another common error is using humectants like hyaluronic acid or glycerin on completely dry skin. In dry climates, they can pull moisture out from deeper skin layers instead of the environment, making the skin feel even drier.”

Her rule of thumb: “Moderation and ingredient compatibility are key; the goal is to enhance hydration, not smother the skin.”

So, how does one sandwich their skincare like a pro?

For the face, Dr Goel recommends beginning with a gentle, non-stripping cleanser, followed by a hydrating mist or toner while the skin is still slightly damp. Next, apply a humectant-rich serum containing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin or panthenol; these draw water into the skin. Followed by a moisturiser that contains emollients like ceramides or squalane to restore the lipid barrier. This final ‘seal’ is what creates the sandwich effect.

And for the body, a similar principle applies. Post-shower, lightly pat the skin dry (don’t rub) and apply a hydrating body mist or lotion rich in humectants, followed by a creamy moisturiser with ceramides or urea. Applying products on slightly damp skin makes a significant difference to how effectively moisture is retained.

Hydration cheat-sheet

Dr Jafferany suggests mixing smartly, and his go-to combinations are:

Mercury retrograde: A guide to surviving and thriving for all the zodiac signs

Yes, it’s that time again. The third and final Mercury retrograde of 2025, currently in full swing, to end on November 29. This month, the planet of communication and intellect will take its infamous backward spin through the impulsive sign of Sagittarius before moving through passionate Scorpio. The energy might feel chaotically start-stop, with moments of brutal honesty giving way to calm introspection and clarity.

Can you expect timeline shifts? The chance to rewrite old scripts? Some unexpected switch-ups? According to Priscila Lima de Charbonnières, astrologer, author, and founder of the personalised astrology app Soulloop, yes: “Communication, business and planning take centre stage, touching both the big-picture stories we tell ourselves and the unspoken truths that shape our closest bonds.”

If that sounds intriguing, get ready. Despite its reputation for wreaking havoc on travel plans and causing mechanical glitches, Mercury retrograde can actually be pretty illuminating—especially when it comes to our limiting beliefs, philosophies and the ways we think. “When Mercury is retrograde, the mind runs at peak frequency,” explains Charbonnières. “Our attention to detail sharpens, our awareness of flaws heightens and imperfections stand out. Yet we’re also more articulate, able to build ideas from the ground up and turn complexity into clarity.”

To find out what this Mercury in retrograde will mean for your sun sign specifically—and how to use all that energetic potential to thrive—read on.

What is Mercury retrograde?

“Mercury retrograde happens when the planet of communication appears to move backward in the sky, an illusion with very real effects,” explains Charbonnières. “It’s a time when communication, travel, contracts and technology may feel glitchy, but it’s also a powerful moment for reflection.”

If it seems like Mercury is always retrograding, that’s because its backward orbit happens pretty frequently—around three to four times a year, to be exact. But as Charbonnières points out, the planet is not really moving backwards—it only appears that way because Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and has a shorter orbital route.

How to use Mercury retrograde to your advantage

We can think of the perceived backward motion as a reminder to check in with certain aspects of our lives. After all, astrology is all about working with energy—not against it. “Mercury’s energy turns inward, inviting us to revisit the past, resolve misunderstandings and shift the way we think, speak and connect,” says Charbonnières.

In other words, Mercury retrograde is a chance to “slow down, reflect and realign,” Charbonnières says. “Whether it’s refining your message, reconnecting with people who matter or reworking plans that once felt ‘off,’ this period helps you course-correct with more wisdom and purpose. It’s a second shot to get it right. Use this time to fine-tune your communication, rethink decisions, and breathe new life into old ideas.”

Tips for Mercury retrograde

In general, the overarching advice for Mercury retrograde is to “show up as the most aligned version of yourself, and don’t be afraid to rewrite your own script,” says Charbonnières. Below, she shares her tips for taking advantage of this passage.

India’s female artists take over the Sculpture Park at Art Mumbai 2025

There’s also Vinita Mungi’s Zen Garden, built on site from miniature ceramic creations, found objects, wood and gravel, plus a portion of sand onto which audiences are invited to rake their own patterns. The work itself is a feminist reimagining of ritualistic labour, and by inviting audience participation, Mungi allows you to respond to an object of reverence with more than just quiet awe. Older works, like Shambhavi Singh’s sickle-shaped iron archway Doaar, first showcased in 2019, take on new meaning in this curation; Solanki plays the title quite literally by placing the work at the VIP entrance, where it acts as a hard-to-ignore reminder of land labour. “There is something very intimate about the works, and even if it’s large, there’s so much detail that you end up going back and forth with them.”

Horoscope Today: November 12, 2025

You’re learning through experience right now—some of it feels smooth, some of it messy, Pisces. There may be a sense of disappointment lingering, but underneath that is a chance to rebuild with more awareness. Are you thinking straight? Aries, or are you overburdened and overwhelmed with all that is ongoing in your life? You may feel like someone on your team is, in fact, acting funny or in sly ways, and hey, your intuition may be spot on. However, this is your cue to not keep going this way for much longer. Nostalgia may have felt warm, but it’s gently tugging you backwards, Leo; tuck the good bits into a soft keepsake and let the rest go. Anchor yourself with a little structure today—a simple routine, one clear decision, or a practical to-do that brings calmness.

Read on for what the stars have in store for you, and make sure you check out your sun, moon and rising signs for the complete picture.

Are you thinking straight? Aries, or are you overburdened and overwhelmed with all that is ongoing in your life? You may feel like someone on your team is, in fact, acting funny or in sly ways and hey, your intuition may be spot on. However, this is your cue to not keep going this way for much longer. Keep your strengths in mind and release your fears over how things will pan out if you don’t go through with this or speak up for yourself. Surrender to the cosmos.

Cosmic tip: Focus on what needs to be done and simply get things done.

Good news — the 3 a.m. worry loop is easing, so you’ll start sleeping better and thinking clearly. Group drama cools down or gets gently edited out, and you’ll step back from noisy energy with quiet confidence, Taurus. At the same time, your guides promise a calm, honest presence arriving your way: say what you need, set fair boundaries, and keep the people who actually show up. Expect softer nights, tidier circles, and a steadier, kinder you.

Cosmic tip: Pick what and who you love and get flowing with life.

Gem, someone may be sneaking around or avoiding responsibility — trust your instincts instead of spiralling. Using this moment to regroup with practical teamwork: bringing skilled friends, honest feedback, and a clear plan to rebuild what may feel like it is slipping away, is the need of the hour for you. Be it love or partnership, even at work, a gentle, mutual reconnection is possible when both people show up with openness and respect —let curiosity, not assumptions, lead the way. Finally, my dear friend, allow a painful chapter to close fully; grieve, accept the lesson, and then choose a kinder path forward. Quiet, steady action and honest hearts will carry you through.
