From the Khan household to Ananya Panday: Every look from The Ba***ds of Bollywood premiere

At The Ba***ds of Bollywood premiere last night, the red carpet not only carried the weight of a legacy name but also marked a new creative chapter. From archival runway pieces to custom sequins, the city’s most recognisable names showed up for Aryan Khan’s directorial debut. Below is a look at what your favourite celebrities wore to the premiere.

Black and yellow set the tone for the Khan family. Suhana Khan stood out in a molten yellow Versace Medusa ’95 draped gown, styled by Ami Patel, its bodycon silhouette flaring into a fluid, ruched drape with a thigh-high slit. Her gold cuff, strappy heels and cocktail ring mirrored the gleaming accents, while soft waves and warm-toned makeup offset the metallics. Gauri Khan wore a black dress with a plunging neckline, punctuated by cascading ruffles at the bust, anchored by a Bvlgari Serpenti necklace. The men—Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan—chose black-on-black separates: tees layered under dark jackets, with Shah Rukh’s custom jacket featuring ‘Ba***ds’ embroidered in yellow.

The Ambanis brought high-wattage glamour, with Nita Ambani opting for a mint-blue tissue silk organza sari with a rhinestone-studded border. What really caught the eye was her double-layered diamond necklace crowned with a turquoise floral pendant. Radhika Merchant Ambani picked a scarlet silk Maria Lucia Hohan corseted gown with a plunging neckline and gathers that drew the eyes towards the centre slit. She paired it with a matching Hermès Kelly bag and gold Dolce & Gabbana knotted sandals. Shloka Mehta Ambani, styled by Niriksha, wore a bow-detailed lace bustier gown by Giambattista Valli, a sheer embroidered bodice blooming into billowing layers of tulle. Her diamond zig-zag choker, butterfly minaudière and tennis bracelet stack dialled up the sparkle. Aakash Ambani followed in a black velvet suit while Mukesh Ambani chose deep navy with a blush-pink shirt.

Isha Ambani went romantic in a floor-length lace dress with concentric semi-circular ruffles by Georgia Hardinge. Grounding her look were burgundy organza-trimmed pumps by Gianvito Rossi and statement pastel pink floral studs. Beside her, Navya Naveli Nanda offered a sharp contrast in a scarlet power suit—minimal yet impactful—paired with black pumps, a gold collar necklace and soft, side-swept hair.

Alia Bhatt channelled vintage glamour in an archival Gucci by Tom Ford fall/winter 1996 slip dress, styled by Rhea Kapoor. The ivory gown featured side cut-outs, a gold-buckle belt and a white Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag. Bronzed skin, a sleek bun and minimal gold jewellery from Tiffany & Co completed her look. Ranbir Kapoor complemented her in a crisp white jacket, with gold buttons at the cuff and black trousers.

Kajol arrived in a two-tone Safiyaa dress—its inky black corseted bodice leading to a voluminous electric-blue draped skirt. The high neckline was adorned with a diamond collar and floral diamond drop earrings. Crystal-studded heels added some liquid sparkle, while her makeup kept the palette fresh. Ajay Devgn went the unfussy route in an all-black suit, matching pants and a tee.

Madhuri Dixit Nene stole the spotlight with the Parsi gara embroidery on her black sari gown by Ashdeen. Stylist Sukriti Grover chose a strapless column with a pallu that featured rainbow-hued floral threadwork against a midnight base. Never one to shy from spectacle, Karan Johar arrived in a silver reflective suit with a woven-grain texture, paired with a white shirt and a diamond cross pendant—a wink to ’70s disco-glam nostalgia.

Ananya Panday’s Self-Portrait floor-length dress was doused with a rhinestone shimmer: an ecru mesh—entirely embellished with stones—with an asymmetrical lace-trimmed bodice and slit, and paired with Aquazzura Temptation Crystal stilettos. Styled by Ami Patel, the actor wore fresh, dewy makeup and diamond drop earrings that highlighted her fresh-off-vacation tan.

Mira Kapoor, true to her minimalistic style, came in a body-hugging ribbed black dress by Tressé, cut along the décolletage and waist, with flat silver beading stitched into the opening. Accessories stayed lean: black pumps, a Chanel chain-handle bag, gold drop earrings and her engagement ring.

Tamannaah Bhatia chose a futuristic silver-panelled Stargaze gown by Galvan London, with sequinned panels lining her silhouette both horizontally across the bust and vertically down the skirt. Side-parted voluminous waves framed a bare neckline and softly defined eyes. Jet-black Christian Louboutin Hot Chick slingbacks kept the look sharp.

Bhumi Pednekar tapped into the sensual power dressing trend with a crisp white shirt layered under a jet-black lace-up corset, cinched to accentuate the waist and set over a floor-length black column skirt. The corset’s boning and sheer lace introduced contrast and a hint of old-world hauteur, finished with a multistranded pearl choker with a round pendant. Sculpted brows and nude lips kept the look polished; a quilted silver chain Chanel bag added a metallic accent.

Khushi Kapoor arrived in a custom Gaurav Gupta mini with metallic ripples. Its intricate beadwork and crystal mesh caught the light with every movement. Christian Louboutin Rosalie Strass sandals and Kapoor’s diamond bijoux extended the dress’s shimmer. Centre-parted hair and blush-toned makeup completed the look.

Shibani Akhtar exuded effortless chic in a black oversized suit layered over a white satin lace camisole, paired with slouchy trousers that pooled at the ankles for a relaxed yet tailored feel. Accessories included a low-waisted snake-print belt, a structured black clutch and layered gem-studded neckpieces that glinted against the warm colour palette. Centre-parted, bouncy waves framed her face, complementing the understated glamour of her look. Beside her, Farhan Akhtar opted for a chocolate brown suit, pairing it with a crisp white tee and white sneakers for a sleek, preppy edge.

Jewel tones took the lead as Shanaya Kapoor attended in a corseted emerald gown by Georges Hobeika from the spring/summer 2025 couture collection. The sculpted satin bodice was cut sharply at the bust, slipping into a skirt drenched with shimmering green paillettes that rippled with every movement. A bejewelled cross pendant added a dash of iconography, while green strappy heels dialled up the verdant vibe.

Ananya Panday takes fringe for a spin in a Tony Ward couture mini

Few fabrics work as hard as fringe. It moves, it sways, it performs. Ananya Panday let it take centre stage in a Tony Ward couture mini dress. Cut from sheer tulle and embroidered with champagne-gold and silver sequins, the dress was finished with long metallic fringe that exaggerated every shift in movement and leaned into a disco mood.

Styled by Priyanka Kapadia Badani, the accessories brought in sharper lines. Hanut Singh’s Deco Ice Pack earrings, set with green and mandarin sapphires and diamonds, added structure against the fluid dress. On her feet, Aquazzura’s Galaxy pumps—silver PVC with crystal accents and wraparound straps—echoed the sparkle without distracting from it.

Her hair was parted deep to the side and styled in loose waves that gave the look a retro accent. Makeup stayed pared-back: a thin flick of liner, soft shimmer on the lids and a muted rose lip. The styling kept attention on the sequinned fringe.

Fringe is clearly having a resurgence. Deepika Padukone wore a metallic-fringed skirt to the LVMH Prize. It appeared on numerous New York Fashion Week SS26 runways such as Calvin Klein, Christian Siriano, Michael Kors, and more. Ananya Panday’s Tony Ward mini sits right in the mix.

How saffron went from ubtan to ultra-luxe

But saffron didn’t just dance its way into Italian sunsets. It was the result of authentic and unhurried campaigning by the likes of Mira Kulkarni at Forest Essentials, who positioned not just Ayurveda as something elevated from kitchens, but also its ingredients as deserving of their pride of place. “Saffron always marked a moment of care, celebration or sanctity. I understood it wasn’t just an ingredient, it was a cultural heirloom, used with purpose,” says the founder and driving force behind the brand. “The goal was always to reframe how Ayurvedic beauty was perceived, to take it beyond the utilitarian and into the realm of the luxurious. Saffron, with its deep roots in Indian rituals and its sensory richness, was the perfect ambassador for that vision.”

The brand’s iconic Soundarya cream, infused with 24-carat gold, cemented the idea of a ‘ritual in a jar’. Key ingredient? Not the gold, but saffron. “Saffron is incredibly delicate; light, heat and air can easily degrade its properties. Sourcing the right saffron, preserving its aroma and colour, blending it with pure gold and stabilising it within a luxurious cream was no easy feat. It required a blend of Ayurvedic precision and scientific innovation,” explains Kulkarni. “Through rich storytelling and experiential marketing, we were able to reintroduce saffron as a luxurious, high-performing active [ingredient]. As clean beauty gained traction and consumers began seeking out heritage-driven brands, saffron quickly found resonance. Today, it’s seen not just as exotic, but as efficacious, offering results with both depth and meaning.”

As she speaks, it’s clear she has an intuitive grasp of what luxury means: no compromise on efficacy, sourcing or the final feel. The serum works across the spectrum of ageing, from fine lines to dark spots, and is tailored to a modern lifestyle. For her, innovation is about relevance; longevity comes when it’s rooted in culture. That belief also guided the launch of her saffron-infused perfume, Spiritual Awakening—the name drawing from saffron’s lore as a sensorial gateway to greater understanding of life.

There will always be a push-and-pull game between heritage and relevancy, the latter running the risk of diluting the former. But with Kulkarni and Ranavat driving the conversation with knowledge, the story of saffron is only getting more pervasive. “There’s a growing appreciation for ingredients with depth where the backstory is as important as the benefits,” says Kulkarni. “Saffron is no longer viewed as a novelty. It’s understood and respected for its efficacy and emotional value.”

Arpita Mehta and Jo Malone London’s collaboration is a festive first for India

Ahead, Sneha Parikh, brand director, fragrance division, Estée Lauder India and designer Arpita Mehta reveal how fashion and fragrance came together to create the very best of Diwali gifting.

Vogue India: What was your vision going into this collaboration?

Sneha Parikh: When I first started thinking about Diwali, I kept going back to the feeling I have when I walk into a Jo Malone store. Each time, I’m transported to another world. It evokes such joy and exuberance—that’s what we wanted our consumers to experience this year. Our vision was to create a gift that felt like a collectable. And we wanted it to be rooted in Indian tradition.

Arpita Mehta: When this collaboration came along, I was super excited. I’ve been using Jo Malone products for so long, it felt like two different worlds coming together for me. The idea was to create something that really captures the spirit of Diwali. It is the ultimate time for gifting; people want to create special memories, so we wanted to help them do that.

Vogue India: Why did this feel like the right time to step into the Indian market in such a big way?

SP: We’re at such an exciting moment where Indian culture and craftsmanship are finally getting the visibility they deserve, internationally. It’s important not just to participate in this moment, but to actively celebrate it. This collaboration was imagined as an ‘India-first’ story and we can’t wait for it to travel to our stores across the world. It’s a real moment of pride for us, to see a campaign conceptualised and crafted in India to be taken to the global stage

Vogue India: What made Arpita the right choice for this collaboration?

SP: When I first experienced Amber Labdanum, our new Cologne Intense, I had almost a visceral reaction—the scent had such evocative, powerful notes. We wanted a collaborator whose values aligned with ours and Arpita was our first and only choice. She has a remarkable ability to marry modern aesthetics with traditional Indian design. Plus, she’s already a loyal friend of the brand, which made the partnership feel natural.

The more in sync you are, the more you will flow with life.

Why-Synthetic-Kurtas-Can-Harm-Skin-Health.png

Why Synthetic Kurtas Can Harm Skin Health

Choosing the right kurta is about more than just fashion. What touches your skin all day can affect how you feel and even your long-term health. For many, synthetic kurtas seem like a budget-friendly or low-maintenance option, but they often come with hidden risks that go beyond discomfort. If you’ve ever experienced itching, irritation, or mysterious rashes after wearing a kurta, the fabric could be the culprit.

Below, we break down the science and signals behind synthetic kurta-related skin problems and help you make better-informed wardrobe choices.

Common Skin Reactions Linked to Synthetic Fabrics

Wearing synthetic kurtas can expose your skin to several irritants. These materials are made from petroleum-based chemicals like polyester, nylon, and acrylic, which are not skin-friendly.

Potential skin reactions include:

Contact dermatitis: Red, itchy, inflamed patches where fabric touches skin

Heat rashes: Caused by poor breathability and sweat trapped under non-absorbent material

Chronic dryness or flaking: Often results from prolonged exposure to non-breathable fabrics

Fungal infections: Moisture accumulation in folds due to poor ventilation

Acne or folliculitis: Sweat, bacteria, and sebum trapped under synthetic material may block pores

While not everyone will experience these reactions, those with sensitive or allergy-prone skin are particularly vulnerable.

Why Natural Fabrics Are Better for Skin Health

Natural fibers like cotton, silk, and linen allow your skin to breathe, regulate body temperature, and wick moisture away effectively. They are less likely to trigger allergic reactions or cause overheating.

Key advantages of natural kurtas:

Breathability: Keeps sweat from building up on the skin

Hypoallergenic: Minimizes the risk of rashes or flare-ups

Better moisture management: Helps reduce bacterial growth

Soft texture: Comfortable for prolonged wear, even in warm climates

The Chemical Composition of Synthetic Kurtas

Synthetic kurtas are often treated with dyes, wrinkle-resistant finishes, or water-repellent coatings. Many of these contain formaldehyde or heavy metals, which are known skin irritants.

Be aware of these additives:

Azo dyes: These can release carcinogenic amines, especially when exposed to sweat

Formaldehyde resins: Used to prevent wrinkling but may trigger allergic contact dermatitis

Phthalates and flame retardants: Found in some blends, these may have hormonal effects

These chemicals may not always be listed on product tags, but their presence is common in fast fashion or low-cost apparel.

How to Know If Your Kurta is Causing Skin Issues

If you notice recurring skin irritation after wearing certain kurtas, your fabric choice may be to blame. Watch for patterns.

Warning signs to look for:

Rashes developing in areas where the kurta touches your neck, chest, or arms

Itching that begins within an hour of wearing the garment

Skin discomfort that disappears after changing into natural fabrics

Red or irritated skin after sweating in synthetic kurtas

These symptoms are often subtle at first but can escalate if the irritant remains in regular contact with your skin.

What to Do Before You Buy a Kurta for Men

You don’t need to sacrifice style to protect your skin. Choosing high-quality fabrics and knowing what to look for will save you discomfort later.

Before purchasing a kurta:

Check the fabric label: Opt for 100% cotton, silk, or linen blends over polyester or rayon

Feel the material: If it feels plasticky, slippery, or overly shiny, it’s likely synthetic

Look for breathable weaves: Fabrics with visible texture often allow better airflow

Smell the fabric: Strong chemical odors can signal heavy finishing agents

Buy from trusted brands: Reputable names often disclose their material sources and avoid harsh chemical treatments

For safer options, you can buy kurta for men crafted with attention to both style and skin sensitivity.

How to Protect Your Skin When Wearing Synthetic Fabrics

Sometimes, synthetic kurtas are unavoidable, especially during formal events or when you’re wearing embellished styles. In those cases, taking extra care can help minimize the risk of skin reactions.

Tips to reduce irritation:

Wear a soft cotton undershirt to form a barrier between your skin and the fabric

Limit wear time, especially in hot, humid weather

Wash new garments before first wear to remove excess dye and residues

Avoid wearing synthetic kurtas for long outdoor events or activities that cause sweating

Making small adjustments can significantly reduce the stress your skin experiences from synthetic exposure.

Environmental and Ethical Concerns with Synthetics

Beyond personal health, synthetic kurtas raise concerns around sustainability and production ethics. These fabrics contribute to microplastic pollution and often involve harsh manufacturing processes.

Key concerns include:

Non-biodegradable nature of polyester and similar fabrics

High water and energy usage in synthetic textile manufacturing

Poor working conditions in fast fashion factories producing cheap synthetics

Choosing ethically made, natural kurtas not only benefits your skin but also supports more sustainable fashion choices.

Choosing the Right Kurta for Your Skin Type

If you’ve struggled with skin issues, make fabric a non-negotiable part of your wardrobe decisions. Understanding how your skin behaves can help you choose materials that complement your needs.

Match kurta materials to skin types:

Sensitive skin: Stick with unbleached organic cotton or muslin

Oily skin: Go for breathable linen to reduce moisture retention

Dry skin: Silk can help retain some moisture without irritation

Combination skin: Choose cotton-silk blends for balance

Experiment with different textures and observe how your skin reacts. Keep a mental note of which kurtas leave you feeling comfortable and which ones don’t. If you notice redness, itchiness, or persistent discomfort after wearing a certain material, switch to a natural fabric alternative and monitor the results over time. Consistency in fabric choice can dramatically improve your skin’s comfort and long-term health.

Prioritize Skin Comfort in Every Kurta Purchase

When shopping for a kurta, skin health may not be your first concern, but it should be part of the conversation. The discomfort of rashes, heat retention, or fabric-induced acne is not worth the aesthetic alone. With so many natural options available, there’s no reason to settle for synthetic when better choices are within reach.

Choosing a breathable, skin-friendly fabric ensures that your style feels just as good as it looks. And when you’re ready to upgrade your wardrobe, Nihal Fashions offers a curated collection designed with both elegance and comfort in mind.

Vogue India’s Forces of Fashion showcase brings together 39 of India’s best loved designers

It takes countless creative minds to build a fashion-forward future and at Vogue India’s Forces of Fashion showcase that launched this week, 39 of the country’s most loved turned out their very best. In association with Rabanne, the event unfolds as a five-day exhibit running till 20 September at Nilaya Anthology in Lower Parel, Mumbai.

Among the many voices shaping the exhibit, a few offer a glimpse into the breadth of imagination on display: “I wanted to reimagine bandhani not just as textile but as structure,” says Rahul Mishra, who translates the craft’s “memory, culture and tradition” from the villages of Kutch into architectural silhouettes.

Shantnu and Nikhil speak of “exploring drape and deconstruction through the lens of military—a paradox of power reimagined in sculptural forms,” while East, a young designer from Manipur, hopes to “represent the side of India that is often left in shadows”. His exhibit puts the spotlight squarely on the traditional wraparound garments of the Northeast and the mathematical intricacies of loin loom weaving.

For Bobo Calcutta, the idea of architecture meeting fashion stems from his earliest memory of the pandal—“a structure that involves, envelops, embraces love in the centre of whatever [they] think is architecture”. Gaurav Gupta channels his obsession with surreal Indian mythology through a brass sculpture of a swan-peacock-snake-like bird-woman. Meanwhile, Ashdeen’s ‘Cloud Kingdom’ draws on the fantastical creatures embedded within Parsi gara embroidery, reimagining the storied craft in a dreamlike light.

Centred on the values of mindful creation, innovation and accessibility, this year’s edition reflects the industry’s shifting landscape, while honouring its history and mapping its future. “We are so inspired by the talent and passion our designers brought to the second edition of the Forces of Fashion exhibit. And the best part is the diversity on show—from Gujarat to Manipur and Kerala, Telangana to Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, we took pains to ensure underrepresented regions were treated at par with Mumbai and Delhi. And the results are on show for all to see,” says Rochelle Pinto, Head of Editorial Content at Vogue India.

The showcase, supported by Moroccan Oil, Grey Goose Vive Le Voyage and Nilaya Anthology, will culminate in a red-carpet gala on 23 September at the JW Marriott, Juhu in Mumbai, spotlighting a new generation of designers, artists and cultural frontrunners redefining the fashion landscape. Below, find snippets from each installation.

Sagittarius Horoscope Today: September 17, 2025

How much longer will you hide from the arena, Sag? How much longer will you keep shying away because you think you have lost your spark? Shine like a courageous peony, and honour your multifaceted nature. Time is not running out, and neither are you clocking out. So stop absorbing what is not yours. Take off from social media for a day and put your phone on dnd (if possible) or at least only answer when necessary. This will not only help you retrieve your own energy but also disconnect from others’ thoughts, ideas, and vibes that are not serving you in any way.

Cosmic tip: When you see yourself further along a path, walk on it.

Satin skirts are having a moment—here are 8 simple ways to style them

Few staples are as seasonless as the slip satin skirts. While the garment’s warm-weather credentials remain uncontested (it’s a firm fixture in pub gardens paired with flip-flops and cami tops), its monsoon/winter appeal is equally deserving of recognition. Indeed, its lustrous surface complements the roughness of denim, the softness of mohair and the heft of leather. Bias cuts skim the body without clinging, offering movement that exudes nonchalance. Its hemline can be flirtatiously short, modestly mid-length or languidly long–each version simple to style with the right know-how.

With its bias cut and liquid drape, the slip skirt re-entered the fashion conversation in the late 2010s, courtesy of labels like Réalisation Par and Topshop, and it quickly became a common sight on Instagram feeds. For this season, however, alongside classic reimaginings, designers reinvigorated it with fresh details, such as ruching at the waist, subtle lace trims, beaded florals and diamanté embellishments, which prove the trend’s lasting appeal.

Street-stylers at Copenhagen Fashion Week showcased the slip’s versatility with layered looks suitable for the cooler climate. They wore satin skirts over jeans or trousers and topped them off with cosy knitwear and rain macs, proof that the piece needn’t be shelved when the temperature dips.

This season, lace trim has emerged as a particular focus, adding a romantic, vintage note. Whether you lean into subtle tone-on-tone pairings or embrace a statement-making colour clash, it lends the skirt a whisper of boudoir. From polished trench coats and tailoring to utilitarian bomber jackets and gauzy mesh tops, scroll to discover the Vogue-approved ways to style a satin skirt this season.
