Giorgio Armani, the Italian designer who changed the shape of fashion, has died

Giorgio Armani, who designed the uniform of aspiration that both defined the 1980s and shaped the course of fashion beyond it, has died, it was announced today. He had turned 91 on July 11. His passing was confirmed by the company.

“With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani,” a statement read. “Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects.”

Unarguably the most successful Italian fashion designer in history, Armani was also its most successful entrepreneur. He was the sole shareholder in his eponymous company, Giorgio Armani S.p.a, whose interests expanded far beyond apparel to encompass hotels, homewares, and even confectionery. The business he began from scratch in 1975, funded with the sale of his Volkswagen Beetle, saw revenues of 2.1 billion euros in 2019 and employs around 8,000 people worldwide. His own personal wealth has been estimated at 11 billion dollars. Remarkably, when he founded his company, Armani was already 40 years old. It would take him only seven years to go from unknown to Time Magazine cover star, which in 1982 represented the apex of cultural recognition.

Armani began designing both womenswear and menswear as a freelancer in the early 1970s, after a six year stint as protege to the tailor Nino Cerruti, for whom he worked on a sportswear label named Hitman. Prior to that he spent seven years working at the Milan department store La Rinascente, where he had served as window dresser and assistant buyer. Armani opened his own design studio with the encouragement of his partner in both life and business, the architect Sergio Galeotti. As Armani told GQ in 2015: “Sergio made me believe in myself. He made me see the bigger world.” The two men set up their company—Galeotti was chairman and co-owner—alongside assistant Irene Pantene (who still works for the company today) and showed their first womenswear collection on the Camera Della Moda calendar for Fall 1976, a collection for which they secured a distribution deal with Barneys.

Deepika Padukone’s Louis Vuitton look plays with volume and texture

Padukone’s look echoes the broader themes artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière has been evolving across seasons, from the sculptural contrasts of Fall/Winter 2025 to the theatrical edge of Cruise 2026. The molten textures, shimmering fringe and sharp accessories all tap into the house’s ongoing play of past and future, structure and ease.

Jewellery was kept minimal, with gold textured studs offering just enough gleam. Her bronzy beauty look featured a high bun with locks coming loose at the back, brushed-up brows, terracotta-toned lids, cheeks and lips set against radiant skin.

Deepika Padukone’s fashion evolution with Louis Vuitton has been one to watch. Initially appointed as the brand’s global ambassador—making her the first Indian woman in that role—she has worn the brand’s most standout looks on global stages like Paris Fashion Week. Now, stepping into her new role as a jury member at the LVMH Prize 2025, she has moved from being the face of the brand to helping define its future.

From Vogue’s fashion desk:

“Keep the high knot to elongate the silhouette, and swap the oversized tote for a sleek, structured clutch. Ground the drama with metallic heels that mirror the movement of the streamers. No necklace needed but instead, opt for bold geometric earrings that tie into the futuristic, tribal-regalia energy. With pared-back makeup and a glossy lid,” says Vogue India fashion associate Manglien Gangte.

What’s worse than a cheater? Apparently, staying with one

Cheaters suck. That part isn’t controversial. The default advice for dealing with cheating in a relationship usually goes something like: Leave. Block them. Never look back. But what happens when a woman dares to stay? That’s when the spotlight—and shaming—turns on her.

We saw this pattern play out on The Summer I Turned Pretty. Belly, after being cheated on by her boyfriend, Jeremiah, still chooses to marry him—a decision that triggered a torrent of online hate. Since the episode aired, she’s been branded by viewers as insufferable, embarrassing and pathetic. Meanwhile, Jeremiah—the perpetrator—largely escapes the internet’s scrutiny.

In the court of public opinion, it’s the woman forgiving a cheater who becomes the punchline.

According to infidelity experts, this one-sided backlash is hardly surprising—and reflects a broader, sexist double standard: We claim to hate cheaters, but the truth is, we hate the women who refuse to leave them even more.

The double standard that blames women for forgiving a cheater

“Historically, women were often locked into marriages regardless of their well-being,” says Idit Sharoni, LMFT, a couples therapist who leads an infidelity recovery program called It’s Okay to Stay. “Over time, they fought for and won the right to leave unhappy marriages and normalise divorce.” That progress has been so powerful that now, “when a woman chooses to stay, she can be judged just as harshly for not leaving.”

Layered onto that is a cultural narrative that normalises men’s infidelity. “The stereotype is that women don’t need a lot of sex and men do,” says Lauren LaRusso, LPC, LMHC, author of Beyond Infidelity: How to Turn the End of Your Relationship into the Beginning of Your Life. This belief feeds into the perception that unfaithfulness, for men, is inevitable—an expression of biology and instinct, rather than a betrayal—which shifts the burden of judgment onto women. “It becomes deep-seated in our subconscious schemas about the way men and women are socialised, raised and wired,” LaRusso says. “Of course, they’re going to go out and have their needs met, which means only a weak woman would stay and stand for that.”

Case in point: Look at how the public treated Khloé Kardashian after giving Tristan Thompson multiple chances following his cheating scandals. He’s the one who repeatedly wronged and humiliated her, yet it’s Kardashian who has been relentlessly mocked and memed. Even Hillary Clinton’s decision to remain married to Bill was cast less as a reflection of a painful, complex circumstance and more as “evidence” of moral weakness, low intelligence and poor self-esteem. Time and time again, society doesn’t just downplay men’s bad behaviour—it ridicules the women for enduring it.

Why staying after infidelity is more complicated than you think

“We’re quick to judge life decisions through a simple ‘good versus bad’ lens,” Sharoni says. And choosing to be with someone who’s been unfaithful doesn’t fit that script—nor does it leave much room for sympathy.

AI music is coming for your playlist. How are musicians coping?

“It’s a copyright nightmare and it’s disrespectful to artists”, says entertainment, media and tech legal advocate Sandhya Surendran. At Big Tech’s insistence, any material that is publicly available—whether it is protected by copyright or not—is fair game and can be used as training data for AI platforms to learn, under the guise of “fair use”. It is murkier in this regard because the resulting output is not “transformative,” although it is monetised without compensating the original composer or songwriter. Particularly problematic in an Indian context, where copyright and intellectual property are woefully ignored and rarely enforced. We are a land of remixes and remakes, mainly because composers do not own the rights to their music; production companies do.

Big Tech has plenty to gain from this, potentially the liquidation of certain human-driven departments since AI, requiring neither sleep nor sustenance, is the perfect inanimate workhorse. Meanwhile, it’s churn, churn, churn as some tech-bro feels the need to relive his college days without the nuisance of hiring an actual artist with a mouth to feed.

An ideal situation would have artificial intelligence manage the banalities within artistic expression. Manojna Yeluri of Artistik License adds, “We can safely lean on AI to assist with a lot of the mundane and administrative workload, especially if we’re indie or smaller creative projects.” Automate payments, generate invoices, help construct a stageplot, spit out suggestions for treating a recording space, navigate contracts, file taxes… artists are detracted from their main mission with these side quests and could use automation to eliminate them.

Doom and gloom aside, there is a much more hopeful counternarrative: the next step forward. The presence of such AI slop will only elevate art that is human-made. With AI art being based on what already is, making art that is unpredictable and counterintuitive is the next challenge that artists are being invited to embrace. There’s no better time to get really weird with it.

“Everybody’s going to find out that art and music are about the connection between human beings, not about the art itself. Welcome to the dawn of authenticity. Just hang tight,” reassures Josh Fernandez, frontman of our band The F16s. A real piece of work, but he’s real and that’s what matters.

An oily skin care routine in 7 products that actually deliver

Living with oily skin isn’t all bad—there’s built-in glow, after all—but it does call for an oily skin care routine that balances more than it battles. The challenge isn’t just shine, it’s keeping makeup from slipping by noon, or finding a moisturiser that hydrates without feeling heavy.

What makes the difference is a routine that works with your skin, not against it. Lightweight cleansers, refreshing toners and gel-based hydrators can help manage oil while keeping skin comfortable and fresh.

Here, seven products that make an oily skin care routine simple, effective and shine-free.

Ras Luxury Luminous Skin Clarifying Face Wash

₹1250

A gel-based cleanser that clears away impurities without stripping, Ras Luxury’s formula uses antibacterial tea tree and natural hyaluronic acid from gotu kola to calm inflammation and maintain hydration. Willow bark extract works to unclog pores, reduce acne and prevent future breakouts, leaving skin refreshed, balanced and comfortable.

Farmacy Deep Sweep 2% BHA Pore Refining Toner

₹1800

This water-light, alcohol-free toner is powered by 2% salicylic acid, chlorella, moringa seed extract and papaya enzyme to gently exfoliate, clear pores and reduce excess oil. Designed for oily and acne-prone skin, it sweeps away dead skin cells without drying, leaving skin smooth, refreshed and balanced all day.

indēwild Luminary Eye Concentrate

₹1599

Eye creams often get left out of an oily skin care routine, but this lightweight formula proves they don’t have to be heavy. Indēwild’s Luminary Eye Concentrate goes beyond vitamin C, niacinamide, arnica and caffeine with its HyaBright complex and Hyalurosmooth® for deep hydration and brightening. It targets both vascular (blue/purple) and pigmentary (brown/black) dark circles, while reducing puffiness, fine lines and signs of fatigue, leaving eyes looking rested even on little sleep.

Kiehl’s- Ultra Facial Oil-free Gel Cream

₹3000

A standout for oily skin type worldwide Kiehl’s cooling gel texture instantly refreshes and rebalances, while the amino acids help control oil production over time. Glycerin keeps the hydration last for 24 hours while maintaining a shine free, fresh feeling and healthier looking skin all day. The fast absorbing gel seeps into the skin immediately and minimises pores.

Embryolisse Sun Stick SPF 50+

₹1925

Infused with roucou oil and shea butter, Embryolisse Sun Stick SPF 50+ nourishes and hydrates skin, keeping it soft and smooth, the lightweight formula glides leaving an invisible and satin finish. No white cast, no greasiness. Its compact stick design makes reapplying on the go super easy. Perfect for oily skin, this vegan sun stick is a no-brainer for reliable, mess-free protection.

Sulwahosoo- Gentle Cleansing Oil

₹3000

For skin that battles sunscreen, pollution and long days, Sulwhasoo’s Gentle Cleansing Oil infused with mulberry is a game changer. This lightweight oil melts into a silky texture, dissolving dirt and makeup without stripping away skin’s natural moisture, clogging pores or leaving residue. No tightness, no film- just clean, calm and balanced skin ready for your next skincare step.

LANEIGE Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Serum

₹3250

People with oily skin often skip hydrating serums in fear of extra shine, but hydration can keep sebum in check. Laneige’s Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Serum absorbs quickly, delivering deep, lasting moisture without heaviness. Blue hyaluronic acid replenishes hydration, peptides help firm, and green tea enzymes strengthen the skin’s barrier. The result is skin that feels balanced, smooth and resilient.

8 workwear staples that will make getting dressed for the office easier

With the out-of-office season behind us, it’s a sensible time to do an audit of your workwear capsule and to make sure you have your workwear staples covered. Dress codes can vary considerably – you could quite literally arrive at work in gold sequin Miu Miu knickers with no fear of a “quiet word”, while in other, more corporate environments, wearing a bright colour could be deemed “a little bold.”

However, in most modern workplaces, a capsule of elevated basics is the most effective way of dressing for the nine-to-five, with an arsenal of pieces that are smart and polished, but also comfort-led and have a sense of ease. Boardroom bodycon (the kind that was basically its own character in The Apprentice) now feels a little dated, so instead of dressing like you’re an extra in The Good Wife or Suits, it pays to be a little more relaxed and unstructured.

Brands like The Row, Cos and Toteme have all reimagined standard-issue workwear staples, such as pinstripe tailoring, waistcoats and white button-down shirts, proving that functional, foundational pieces can be aspirational, too. Small design tweaks can really elevate simple basics into something you’d actually look forward to wearing at the weekend, whether that’s with luxurious fabrications or exaggerated silhouettes.

Below we have assembled a capsule of nine pieces that will make getting dressed for any office a little bit easier, whether you are looking for something to wear to a big job interview or simply to invest in a handful of easy-to-style items that will let you hit snooze for 10 more minutes. Upgrade your misshapen court shoes for a pair of polished flats or finally ditch that scruffy canvas bag for a luxurious leather tote – and remember that a blazer can add a powerful finish to any outfit.

The morning routine that helps lower cortisol and ease anxiety

You woke up early, meditated (or at least meant to), brewed your coffee and scanned your inbox before breakfast. And yet, your chest is tight, your thoughts feel jumpy and you’re on edge before 10 am.

It’s not just your to-do list. Your cortisol levels naturally peak in the morning, but when paired with low blood sugar, poor hydration or a hit of caffeine on an empty stomach, that rise can turn into a hormonal surge. What follows is swings between anxiety, brain fog and a crash that leaves you both wired and tired.

A cortisol-smart breakfast is less about rigid rules and more about building a plate that buffers stress. The right combination of carbohydrates, protein, fat and hydration can blunt that early cortisol peak and help lower cortisol naturally, giving you the fuel to think clearly—and feel steady—through your most demanding hours.

Choose low glycaemic carbs for steadier energy

Skip refined carbohydrates and start with complex carbs like oats, sweet potatoes or wholegrain bread. These digest slowly and help reduce the likelihood of blood sugar—and cortisol—spikes. The aim is to lower cortisol by preventing the rapid insulin fluctuations that can set off your body’s stress alarms.

A 2011 study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that children consuming high glycaemic index (GI) breakfasts experienced significantly higher cortisol levels post-meal compared to those who had low GI breakfasts. While the study focused on children, the implications for adults are similar when it comes to stress and cognitive function.

Try: Steel-cut oats with sliced banana and flaxseed, or sweet potato toast with ricotta and roasted seeds.

Pair carbs with fat and protein to blunt cortisol spikes

Macronutrient balance matters. Protein and fat help slow digestion, preventing blood sugar fluctuations that can exacerbate stress hormone production. When balanced correctly, meals can help lower cortisol throughout the morning.

According to a 2022 review in Nutrients, balanced macronutrient composition—particularly protein and fat—helps modulate the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, which controls cortisol secretion.

Try: Scrambled eggs with sautéed spinach and wholegrain toast, or Greek yoghurt with nut butter and berries.

Don’t skip breakfast

Skipping your first meal of the day can leave cortisol elevated for longer, particularly in people with irregular stress responses. A consistent morning meal can stabilise hormonal rhythms and lower cortisol reactivity throughout the day.

ghagra-choli

To see what a regular Garba dress seems like, try on a Navratri ghagra choli. Great for garba dance, this get-up has a flowy skirt and shiny colors. Ghagra cholis may be crafted from lots of textiles, such as silk, cotton, georgette, and more. Sparkles, embroidery, and replicated mirror work embellish them. This is very detailed.

Add a skirt and a few vibrant, oxidized earrings in your ghagra choli to make it look more stylish. Choose traditional colors for Navratri, inclusive of royal blue, vibrant yellow, or deep red. These colors represent energy, devotion, and wealth. When you shop online for garba clothes, look at collections that have one-of-a-kind patterns and details that were made by hand.

  1. The Mirrored Lehenga Choli

mirror-work-lehenga

The mirror work on the lehenga choli makes it sparkle and replicate mild as you move, which makes it exquisite for the fast-moving Garba dance. The bright mirrors which can be sewn into the material aren’t the most effective lovely to look at, but they may be additionally a vital part of Navratri outfits due to the fact they constitute clarity and reflection in religious beliefs.

To finish off your mirrorwork lehenga choli, decorate with classic jewelry, consisting of jhumkas, a maang tikka, and earrings. Navratri is a time for liberation and brilliance, so this ensemble ought to be named for brighter shades like blue, orange, or pink. You can find many mirror-work lehengas at garba outfits online if you want to buy the newest clothes.

  1. Anarkali Suit Set

anarkali-suits

The Anarkali suit set is a stylish and humble choice for people who want to be comfortable without giving up style. The Anarkali suit has a royal look that goes well with the festive mood of Navratri traditional clothes for Garba. It is known for its floor-length flare.

Make an announcement in a vibrant Navratri color—maybe fuchsia, bottle green, or gold—by wearing an Anarkali. Accessorize the ensemble with lovely earrings and an advanced bun to exude elegance. If you need to appear elegant while dancing effortlessly, this outfit is for you. The flowing shape will make your Garba twirls look great.

  1. Zari Formal Sarees

zari-sarees

To complement your zari saree, decorate it with classic earrings, which include a choker necklace or long temple earrings. Go for a graceful and sophisticated hairstyle. Drape your saree in a manner that permits you to move freely, in case you need to appear respectable and be comfortable throughout Garba.

  1. Indo-Western Fusion Clothes

indo-western-dress

That`s why this appearance is excellent for folks who need to stand out, even as it is nevertheless comfortable.

Modern belts or bracelets can also be worn together with your outfit to make it appear more stylish. Pick Navratri colorations that stand out, like cobalt blue or mustard yellow, to preserve the vacation temper alive. This mix-and-healthy appearance is easy to prepare and excellent for last-minute Garba plans.

  1. Colorful Bandhani Dresses

bandhani-dresses

Bandhani attire is brilliant and features lots of traditional garba. These attires are outstanding for celebrating Navratri due to their specific tie-dye designs. Bandhani fabric is available in many brilliant colorations for Navratri, like red, green, and yellow, which stand for happiness and wealth.

To add to the classic look, wear chunky silver jewelry and a bright bindi. Because they are loose and light, bandhani dresses are great for a night of dancing.

  1. Floor-Length Anarkali Dresses

long-anarkali-suits

For an extra dramatic look, a floor-length Anarkali gown is the proper blend of old-style fashion and new-fashioned flair. This outfit has a royal, flowing form that makes it ideal for creating a grand entrance at any Garba event.

Choose bright colors for Navratri, like royal purple or blood red. If you put on little rings with the dress, the flowy material will more than talk for itself. An Anarkali that falls to the ground will allow you to pass with ease, whether or not you`re dancing or simply enjoying the party.

Final Words

In conclusion, those are 7 lovely clothes for Garba nights throughout Navratri. Whether you want the conventional ghagra choli or the greater contemporary-day Indo-Western blend clothing, the best way to stand out is to wear something from the brilliant Navratri collection. Add a few traditional earrings for your look, and reflect on the colors you select for Navratri to simply stand out.

Which Indian outfits idea do you like best? Tell us in the comments how you’re going to wear your Garba this season.

Of course! Navratri is all about self-expression. If you feel more comfortable in Western attire, you can blend traditional elements—like a statement jacket or Indian-inspired accessories—into your look. The key is to feel confident and comfortable in whatever you choose.

Less is more when it comes to accessories. Choose one or two statement pieces, such as a chunky necklace or bold earrings, rather than layering on too many pieces. A delicate kamarbandh can also add an elegant touch without overwhelming your look.

During Navratri, people traditionally wear vibrant and colourful Navratri dress ideas like sarees, lehengas, chaniya cholis, and kurta-pajamas. Women often adorn themselves with intricate jewellery and bangles, while the Navratri traditional dress for man always includes dhotis or kurtas, celebrating the festive spirit with lively patterns and textures.
