Kajol Devgan’s Manish Malhotra gilded sari brings handwoven tissue and brocade together

With a friendship that spans over three decades, Kajol Devgan and Manish Malhotra’s sartorial collaborations feel more like an extension of a shared legacy than a designer-muse partnership. The duo’s latest creative synergy has culminated into a classic sari look what can be touted as a modern heirloom. “We wanted Kajol’s look to feel regal yet modern, letting this beautiful golden Manish Malhotra sari take centre stage. The idea was old-world glamour reimagined with a clean and modern vision,” shares stylist Aastha Sharma. The result is an aesthetic that honours heritage weaves and embraces the sharpness of contemporary styling.

Devgan’s sari is a half-and-half masterpiece in handloom textiles. Creating an almost liquid shimmer, the sari is woven in golden tissue that serves as the pallu and rich brocade as the rest of the canvas. Despite being distinct, the two fabrics create a harmonious visual and textural design language. Elevating the sari’s inherent opulence is an “intricate hand-embroidered vintage zardozi border, which is delicate yet powerful, just like Kajol’s presence,” according to Malhotra. The border is further edged with a gota patti and kiran detailing.
