How to wear juttis with just about everything in your wardrobe—from shirts to skirts

If you’ve only ever worn juttis with Indian wear, then a swift “how to wear juttis” Google check should nudge your inspiration. As someone who once flew to Amritsar with an empty suitcase and returned with 30-odd pairs of juttis, I can confidently say this: nothing catches the eye in an outfit quite like the unexpected pairing of hand-embroidered footwear.

Juttis are quietly versatile, genuinely comfortable and an easy way to make any look feel unmistakably yours. Consider this your “how to wear juttis” guide with pretty much everything, from a blazer to that oversized shirt you stole from a boyfriend. Skip them on days when the rain gods are in full performance mode. Even leather has its limits.

Tailored blazer

This unusual combination was discovered when I ditched heels for a pair of juttis; I have never looked back. It adds an element of your style and works just as well with wide-leg linen as it does with a fitted pair of tailored pants. Stick to the classic brown leather or tone-on-tone pairs for a cleaner line, or try embroidered juttis with an otherwise neutral look.

Maxi dress

Maxi dresses tend to fall into two camps—romantic or relaxed. Either way, juttis can hold their own. Volume needs anchoring, particularly when the dress is all fabric and movement. A block-printed cotton number, or something pleated and near-monastic, can be the way to go. Let the footwear be the unexpected detail. If the hem swings just above the ankle, choose juttis with texture. Leather, brocade, something hand-dyed.

OG kurta

This is where the jutti began, the cheesy but evergreen Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi combination, but that doesn’t mean the pairing needs to feel obvious. Be it a co-ord set or a traditional kurta-pyjama, there is a pair that works for our beloved Indian silhouette. Work with fun contemporary accessories and sculptured jewellery to reimagine the classic.

Kajol’s black pre-draped sari came with a corset featuring 3,500 Swarovski crystals

The corset, made in tulle, mimicked the structure of a warrior’s breastplate, but was softened with femininity in its curves and crystal-laden finish. “Over 3,500 hand-embellished Swarovski crystals of varying shapes and cuts were sewn. Every detail was carefully considered—the upper part of the corset was designed to feel like an ornate necklace resting on her torso, while the strong shoulders echoed protection and power. The look is maximalist, romantic, theatrical and even a little dark,” added Torani.

Following the leitmotif, she went with the Mughal Bahaar Bangle Stack from Apala by Sumit that featured “an opulent arrangement of a rubellite ribbon bangle combined with leaf-shaped quartz polki, evoking the lush grandeur of a blooming Mughal spring,” shared Sumit Sawhney behind the jewellery label. Statement Amama cuffs rounded off her accessory choices. Soft smoky eyes, nude pink lips and a handmade bindi by The Bindi Project made for her beauty look.

Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya Akkineni’s priorities have changed since they got married

Before Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya Akkineni exchanged vows in December last year, they hadn’t discussed how they would achieve work-life balance. After all, they were embarking on a new chapter together, one that they both hoped would be filled with love, adventure, travel and joy. The rest was all confetti. Turns out, that conversation wasn’t necessary. Balancing their schedules has never been a problem for the couple, as Dhulipala explains when we speak over Zoom—he’s at home in Hyderabad, she’s shooting for an upcoming film in Chennai. “In Mumbai, my schedule was always chock-a-block. I had so many dreams when I started out at 21, and I was able to tick a lot of those boxes,” Dhulipala reflects. But the past couple of years have been a watershed. With six releases in the past two years—including Ponniyin Selvan II (2023), The Night Manager (2023) and her Hollywood debut Monkey Man (2024)—she found herself drained. “I’ve taken a step back to reassess my choices,” she says.

Akkineni, who was last seen in Thandel this February, has followed suit, carving out pockets of time between juggling his film schedule, his pan-Asian food venture, Shoyu, and his motor-racing team, Hyderabad Blackbirds. Apparently, one adrenaline-fuelled career wasn’t enough for this thrill-seeking Sagittarian. “But my priorities changed after I got married. Now, nothing matters more than home and family,” he says. It’s ironic, then, that at this very moment, they’re separated by 600 kilometres, a Zoom window and the classic struggle of syncing their calendars, let alone their conversations. “I resumed shooting a little before our wedding,” Dhulipala clarifies, “but now, when I make decisions, there’s definitely greater clarity, a stronger sense of grounding. I’m in a different chapter of my career.”

Why argan oil is considered “the liquid gold” of hair care

Beauty lovers know that using argan oil for hair is a must if you’re looking for strong, hydrated, and shiny hair. Derived from the kernels of the argan tree that’s native to Morocco, argan oil is rich in nourishing ingredients (think antioxidants, vitamin E, and essential fatty acids) that have amazing benefits and fulfil those hair needs—and so much more.

Below, the experts break down just how beneficial argan oil is for your hair, the possible downsides, and how to use it the right way. Read on to see why everyone is obsessed with this hero ingredient.

The benefits of argan oil

There are several reasons why some of our favourite hair products are made with argan oil. Dendy Engelman, MD, FAAD, board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon at the Shafer Clinic Fifth Avenue, says that because it is rich in vitamin D and E, it provides moisture and helps reduce inflammation in the scalp if you have dry skin or dandruff. Engelman also says that it helps create a barrier around the hair shaft without drying it out, which makes it useful as a heat protectant. It is also great for preventing split ends and frizz while adding shine.

Does argan oil help hair grow?

But one of the biggest benefits of using argan oil is its ability to promote hair growth. “It’s packed with all the necessary nutrients that promote a healthy scalp,” says Engelman. “Which leads to faster hair growth, as well as protecting the hair shaft from breakage.”

Andrew Fitzsimons, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Andrew Fitzsimons haircare, agrees and adds that argan oil contains compounds called phenols, which stimulate the scalp and strengthen hair follicles to provide the right environment for hair to grow. “[It] ensures that the new strands growing are thicker and healthier than before,” he says. “If you are struggling with hair thinning or hair loss, I would definitely recommend giving this a try by massaging [it] into the scalp.”

Who can use argan oil?

Argan oil can be used for any hair type, but Engelman says the way it is incorporated into your routine will be dependent on what type of hair texture you have. She says that those with thicker hair can use it daily, but those with finer hair will want to use it just once or twice a week to avoid weighing hair down. Fitzsimons adds that you’ll want to pay special attention to the amount of product you’re working in your hair. Those with fine hair will want to use a small amount so that it doesn’t make hair look oily and those with thick or curly hair should use generous amounts to see the best results.

The downsides of argan oil

There are very few downsides to using argan oil on your hair and scalp. Engelman just cautions against using it if you have tree nut allergies to prevent irritation. Fitzsimons adds that overusing argan oil can make hair look greasy, but you just need to know how to use it properly to avoid this.

Argan oil vs coconut oil

All the well-known hydrating oils that are comparable to argan oil have the same functions in our hair and skin routines. But there are subtle differences to be aware of, so you can choose the right ingredient for you. Coconut oil, for example, has a thicker consistency and doesn’t absorb as easily, which Fitzsimons says can leave hair and scalp feeling greasy. He adds that coconut oil can cause buildup and leave hair feeling heavy when not rinsed properly. “Argan oil is suitable for people with all hair types, whereas coconut oil is more suitable for people with very dry or damaged hair,” he says.

You are choosing emotional fulfilment, and hey, that is a pro move, Aries. Enough with the long-term strategy, playing it small, fitting in, chewing up your words to keep others happy. Now don’t get me wrong – all of the above serve a purpose, but when they begin weighing you down to a point that goes beyond recognition of yourself, you know you gotta walk away from it all. Strategy. Strategy. Strategy. That’s all you need right now, Taurus. Your ideas are on fleek, your gut is as responsive as it has ever been, and your cosmic connection has been off the charts. Burmese rubies, basra pearls and rubellites the size of peaches: Hyderabad’s best-dressed women gave Vogue an exclusive look at their heirloom jewellery

“Heirlooms aren’t just tangible jewellery, it’s more about the story and the people around the pieces,” says Manasa Thakur Reddy, a beauty entrepreneur based in Hyderabad. The beauty of heirlooms lies in their timelessness, a reminder of our nanis and dadis who came before us and those who will come after.

Ahead of the Vogue Wedding Atelier presented by HSBC, the first Editor’s High Tea event was co-hosted by Rochelle Pinto, Head of Editorial Content at Vogue India, and Sudha Reddy, philanthropist, at the latter’s home in Hyderabad. A gathering of tastemakers and fashion enthusiasts took place at Mon Amour Palais—a soirée space created by Reddy in her abode.

Conversations about heirlooms and tales passed through generations during weddings and family affairs continued through the afternoon. Ahead, we deep dive into some of the standout pieces adorned by Hyderabad’s best-dressed women.

Bobby Kandhari, entrepreneur and personal stylist, wore a gold statement necklace from her in-laws. “During the partition, an individual gave this to my father-in-law in lieu of a debt he was owed. Its origins are still unknown,” revealed Kandhari. She preserved it with its unpolished edges and broken parts and wears it with pride today. At the event, she wore the vintage necklace with an emerald ring, a wedding present from her mother, who received it as a present at her wedding decades before.

It’s during weddings, when so many heirloom pieces are made, switching hands from grandmother to mother, mother to daughter, a reminder of heritage, of family, of love. In a look that brought together the women in her family, Archana Rao, fashion and costume designer, styled her mother’s diamond wedding choker “with my grandmother’s gold chandraharam (multi-tiered necklace) and my mother-in-law’s burgundy clutch. So they’re all here with me in spirit,” she explained.

What we lose when the city snatches away our walking spaces

Perhaps this is why I like walking; I have always been greedy for details. Even in a monotonous trudge up and down my building terrace in Bangalore, there were details to be gathered. For instance, the exact length of a cup of tea is 12 walks up and down my terrace, at the rate of 1.5 sips per walk. Absolutely useless information to some, but a very specific memory of worry-free mornings from 2009, when I had started my first job. It’s not a landmark of place, but one of time.

Most landmarks are beloved because they are touched with nostalgia. When we lose them, we lose a connection to our past. Finding himself in Bangalore after many years, a friend felt the urge to take a walk on Indranagar’s 80ft road from his old apartment towards his first office in a bid to revisit a certain part of his life. When he got to the intended neighbourhood, he could no longer find his building or recollect anything around the place where the building used to be. Suddenly, he felt unmoored by the grid of the street, which he recognised and yet could no longer identify. Disoriented, he walked to his old office building, which had since become a restaurant, retaining its old floors and windows, yet with nothing familiar about it. He recalls this incident with a profound sense of loss.

It is inevitable that every landmark will eventually be lost to time. Interestingly, however, landmarks will also become evidence of that very time. During my pregnancy, walking was not for pleasure; instead, it was the only way to counter my diabetes. I religiously walked the same route for an hour every evening to regulate my sugar and the weight of my swiftly growing child. On these walks, I would encounter an elderly lady who soon became a bright spot on my route. She was tall and lanky, always dressed in patterned frocks, walking with the slow elegance that tall and frail people sometimes possess. We never spoke, but we exchanged smiles. I no longer walk that path, but if I ever happen to pass by, I know I will look for this lady who now defines the route for me, just as much as the sampangi tree at the end of the street. Even if she isn’t there, to me, she always will be.

Bhumi Pednekar’s Standout Looks in The Royals Series

When it comes to conquering the red carpet and the small screen, Bhumi Pednekar knows how to deliver looks that captivate us mid-scroll. Bhumi not only plays a part in the recent popular series The Royals but also becomes a fashion force, controlling every scene with great confidence, striking silhouettes and a wardrobe screaming royal aspirations.

From elegant lehengas pouring in royal drama to sharp power suits demanding attention, Bhumi’s style journey in The Royals is one worth obsessing over. Fashionistas and binge-watchers alike should get ready since we will be delving into her best outfits and just why she is the power queen of on-screen fashion this season!

The Power Suit Era: Boss Babe Energy Released

Bhumi-Pednekar

When Bhumi walks into frame in her sleek white pantsuit, we know we’re in for a stylish journey. While the cigarette pants extend her frame and provide big boss babe vibes, the rather customized blazer hugs her shape just nicely. This is a lesson in modern power dressing when combined with a deadly heel and a swipe of deep red lipstick.

What gives her power suit moments such legendary quality? It’s the attitude not only in terms of cuts or colors. Bhumi balances gentleness and power by wearing her outfits like armor. You find yourself enthralled whether she is closing down corporate politics or planning her next action on the royal chessboard.

Playful touch: We’d want to imagine somewhere, even Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada is slow-clapping at Bhumi’s razor-sharp tailoring.

Queen Energy, Activated: The Regal Lehenga

bridal-lehenga

Then — poof! — the queen changes. Bhumi Pednekar stuns in an intricate zardozi embroidered lehenga. It featured a bold-cut blouse adorned with tassel detailing at the front, perfectly capturing the essence of royal opulence. Paired with a classic choker, a borla and statement cuffs from The Gem Palace, Bhumi looked absolutely stunning. To complete the look, her makeup and hair were styled to flawless perfection.

The royal lehenga events are quite spectacular. From voluminous skirts that whirl with every dramatic spin to elaborately adorned blouses with plunging necklines, these outfits help her to create a live, breathing depiction of royal fashion.

Somewhere between her elegant stroll and her flicked dupatta, we swear we heard the background score mutter, “All hail the queen.”

The Elegant Black Gown

blak-gown

About ready to up the heat? Bhumi falls into a sexy black evening gown that shuts down the show. This outfit cries red carpet queen, a plunging neckline, and a sleek design. Bhumi finishes the outfit with dark eyelashes, strong lips, and statement heels that allow you to say, “Whew! The gown glistens softly under the lights.”

It’s more than just a dress; it’s a way of life. Bhumi’s confidence reveals a whole new level and shows that sometimes the best accessory is pure, unvarnished self-assurance.

Playful confession: Brb, rehearsing my black gown’s dramatic arrival down the hall. Watch out, global!

Timeless Silk Saree

organza-silk-saree

Without a traditional silk saree, no royal wardrobe is complete. Bhumi nails it wonderfully. She drapes herself in opulent fabric—think jewel tones, gold zari embroidery and that classic drape that never goes out of style. Combining beautiful bangles, earrings and a modern gajra in her hair, Bhumi becomes the height of old-school appeal.

This style is a lovely tribute to tradition, but with a touch of modern polish — perhaps a contemporary blouse pattern or new cosmetics. It reminds us that trends and history may dance together really elegantly.

Playful sigh: A saree has some enchanted quality. You wrap it around, and all of a sudden you’re elegant, poised, ready to rule the planet.

Fashion Game: Bhumi’s Why We’re Obsessed

What then is the secret sauce behind Bhumi’s amazing The Royal appearances? It’s not only the clothes; it’s also her attitude about every one of them. Bhumi wears each Indian outfit with a blend of grace, boldness and humor that’s hard to resist whether she’s draped in silk or striding in stiletto.

What her closet teaches us:

✔ A power suit is your contemporary armor.

✔ A lehenga will make you feel royal.

✔ A breezy maxi is your go-to for effortless style.

✔ The one best confidence booster is a black gown.

✔ A saree is ageless magic.

Playful reminder: Your inner queen may be channeled without a royal title with the correct attire and a little confidence inspired by Bhumi-style.

End Notes: Long Live the Style Queen!

The royal fashion journey of Bhumi Pednekar is a masterclass in adaptability, grace and pleasure, not only visual candy. She shows you how strong and fun, classic and edgy, subtle and dramatic you can be.

Thus, here is Bhumi, the queen in fashion and attitude who rules supremely. Her brilliant looks on on-screen, off-screen or on the red carpet will be much anticipated.

Playful ending: Bhumi should be informed that we are quite ready should she ever require a sidekick for a fashion montage. Crown, heels, and attitude at call!
